It also shows you how brainwashed and conditioned the older generations are and why their views on feminism are so misguided. If you actually think that a religion that prioritizes men over women and treats women as second class citizens is okay, then something is seriously wrong with you. If you actually think that feminism isn't needed in a world that tries to tell women what they should and should not do with their bodies, has child brides, restricts access to safe abortions in certain countries and proper birth control, and has religions that tell women to 'obey' their husband, then you should check yourself into a mental asylum. At least the younger generations understand that there is more to being a woman than having a uterus.

Even as a feminist myself, I agree that the movement has turned into something completely wrong. Misandry. That's what many "feminists" have turned to. And it's sad, too. Now feminism is not taken seriously. It's something people laugh at and insult because of the crazy ones you see in the media. It takes the attention away from the important issues that feminism fights against, such as the wage gap and everyday sexism. The reason I'm a feminist is because, even at the age of 14, I've already had plenty of experience with things that proper definition feminists are trying to prevent. And to be honest, it really sucks that because of these corrupt misandrists, I can no longer speak about these very real issues without being mocked and hated. It's like, I KNOW they exist, but it's so frustrating because I feel as though I can't do anything until we start seeing feminism for what it truly is. It means equality, even if some of the changes don't benefit me directly, but instead help men on their way to equality as well. I may fight primarily for women's rights, but that doesn't mean I disregard or ignore men's. And please, if someone you know (or anyone really) is a feminist, give them a chance to actually explain what they believe instead of just immediately laughing at them and calling them a "feminazi". Let them tell you what they believe. And also remember that everyone's experiences with sexism are different. Just because you may have never experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Just because most men aren't like that doesn't mean it's not an issue. Saying someone shouldn't believe in something just because you don't experience problems with it is like saying someone shouldn't be seeking treat,net for an illness that doesn't necessarily affect you. If you don't wanna fight for equality, at the very least, stay out of our way. Don't make it harder for those of us who are truly trying to make a difference.

I can't go out in public wearing something slightly revealing without the risk of being catcalled. I don't know a single woman who hasn't experienced discrimination or assault in some way. Not. One. Just because everyone may be discriminated against at some point in their life doesn't mean we shouldn't try and make a difference. That's like saying that just because everyone gets bullied at some point in their lives means we shouldn't try and prevent bullying.

But femnist movement should be focused on the countries and not trying to replace men with soft feminine men,who can't protect this country
@arianorid32556 жыл бұрын
Dark knight it's not a matter of whether or not it's legal. It's the fact that it happens all too often. Most people won't be robbed in their lifetime. Most people won't be murdered. Most people won't be killed in a drunk driving accident. And yet, 1 in around 6 women will be sexually harassed at some point. And statistically, only a small fraction of rapists will face any sort of consequence for their actions. What's more, in some states, it's legal for a rapist to sue a victim if they get pregnant because of the rape and want to have an abortion. There's a whole lot of problems and reasons why even if sexual harassment is illegal, people are scared to report it. I'm not trying to "change the culture" or whatever. I've heard too many stories of University rape cases where the rapist was still let back into college and let off with a warning. The truth is, most of the time, sexual abusers will face little to no repercussions. And THAT is the problem.

***** I agree with her that many people call themselves "feminists" but still hate on women who wear make up, are stay-at-home moms or work in the sex industry, because that's pretty much the opposite of what feminism is trying to achieve. Though I can't say it's purposeless, because girls and women are still sold and treated like objects with no rights in many countries, which happens less often to men - girls and women still get harassed on a daily basis for wearing revealing clothes and are taught not to be sexually active, to be "pure", as the only purpose of a woman is to please a man, which also happens to men, but less often. I'm not saying that the problems many woman have to deal with do not happen to men, or generally, anybody else, hell no, many men are raped and harassed as well, but it's the way we teach little girls and boys about how they are "supposed" to be is what makes me angry. Because nobody is "supposed" to be something, just because they were born with a penis or a vagina ( or both, or neither ).

The sad part is that a lot of women who identify as feminists (mostly women of color) care immensely about the issues that affect "first-world" women (trans issues, birth control restrictions, the wage gap, representation in government etc) AND about issues that effect women in third world countries (genital mutilation, unequal rights, sexual abuse, poverty, domestic violence, infanticide etc) But "feminists" like Taylor Swift and Hillary Clinton make us all seem like "misandrists" and elitists when most of us are far from it. Then again, there are many non-feminists who will look for any excuse to disqualify and demean feminists as a whole because they're afraid of what true equality would entail. The views of the younger women give me a lot of hope. Never be ashamed of wanting equal rights. We deserve it. :)

+Arlenis B No, most non-feminists criticize (not demean) feminists as a whole because of their ridiculous ideology and horrible actions. One can be for equality and not be feminist. In fact, equality is antithetical to the goals of most feminists and the ideology behind feminism. If you are truly about equality, why adopt a gender biased term? The reason some people dont fully support this feminist movement is because 'modern day feminism' has completely lost its proper meaning. Making woman the superior race instead of fighting for equality. As a woman, i dont want to get higher pay checks and more privelage just because of gender. I want people to see me work hard and gain that respect. Celebrities and modern feminist ideals have ruined everything people have fought for. They generalise all men as being evil and ridicule them. I mean if i had a son i wouldnt want them to live in a society where only women matter. Feminism is about all genders collectively working together to support each other in this world. To live as equals. But unfortunately those 'feminists' preach only about the west where women actually get jobs and pay checks, when in some countries women dont even have a voice.

It's extremely noted in how that woman said "it says so in the bible" But having sat just yesterday in a room filled the brim with feminists of all ages, (the oldest being 81) I can say that there are many older women who think feminism is just as important now as it was when the movement started.
@MagikarpJumpu9 жыл бұрын
Joshua McCollum I partially agree. The older woman should know how much an impact it has brought (they can now vote etc.), but they also understand that as time passed the definition of a feminist has been taken on by clueless self-claimed feminist, who aren't fighting for what they should be. For example, some people are fighting for something like being single in first world countries. Is that something that needs to be fought for? No. They have the freedom regardless. If it were to fight against forced marriage, then that would be completely different. There's also pseudo-feminists who would say something like: "You're such a sexist! I don't need you to hold my bags! Do you think I'm weak just because I'm a woman!? You've made me mad, now drive me home!". (take note on the last sentence).

Mike McCready Except the wage gap is very much not a myth, no matter how much some people try to deny it. In some industries some men DO earn more than women, get more promotions etc. There are also industries where the gender bias is reversed (such as teaching) and some where it's negligible that is exists at best. But you're right about people like Tumblr feminists and the young girls on things like Buzzfeed videos that have no clue what they're on about and if you try to actually get them to answer questions they'll just keep stating the same 'facts'... I've lost count how many people I've seen bring up that Feminism MUST be about women cause of the 'Fem' part. It annoys the shit out of me. It's just that when the word was coined it WAS about giving women more rights; they couldn't vote, they were expected to stay at home and have kids... all things like that. The point of Feminsm has changed a lot, but women are definitely not equal to men yet. It's about balancing the scales, not tipping it too far in any direction. Isabelle It's only women because as you can see, this channel has titles like : Feminism | Women | One word | Cut or Father | Men | One word | Cut They have different genders reviewing different topics. Maybe they should have had women using one word to describe their father, maybe they should have had men in this video... But they didn't. Men review things to do with men, women review things to do with women.

Grace Nelson they? Do you mean women? Because we don't have equality. Have you seen the BBC news lately? About the Gender Pay Gap? The figures for Ryanair were staggering..
@gracenelson18556 жыл бұрын
The pay gap has been debunked many times. Not only that, but the equal pay act was passed in 1963 stating it is illegal to pay men and woman differently. So that is proof that there is no pay gap, because it is illegal. People, also, do not take into account how much more time woman take off than men. Woman usually work in places that are not male dominated, but there are woman who work in male dominated places, but we never hear about them, because the news wants us to believe that we are "oppressed". The only woman who do not have equality are the ones in the middle east where if they do not wear their hijab or do certain things they get stoned and or killed, but here we do not have that. Here woman have the rights to get jobs, don't need a male guardian and don't get stoned and or killed for voicing their opinion or wearing whatever they want. We have rights, woman in the middle east do not.

Feminism is so complex. It doesn't have one solid meaning. Feminism covers topics from sexism, misogyny, education, privilege, discrimination, body positivity, abuse, respect, stereotypes, rape culture, confidence, abortion, wage gap, lgbt+ rights, gender roles, etc. If it is intersectional, it also covers topics about racism, classism, and ableism because they are intertwined. It is inclusive of all genders; male, female, and non-binary. Overall, it is a very progressive movement if you learn about it. It is necessary today just as it was many years ago. Once you realize these issues are going on all around us, people can have an open conversation about them. We can make a change for ourselves, our loved ones, and our community. I am proud to call myself a feminist.

thats were your wrong man are way beter at some things woman are way beter at other things it's just a normale state of nature and equality could and will never happen just because of the basis difference between man and woman .woman are trying to hard to go against the very nature of their state and man are surpressed on their very state of nature.there is no such thing as transgender of binairy gender or fluid gender.a man switching to woman is still a man on molecular level and on dna and rna level the same goes for woman transforming into a man binairy is just a fancy word with no aplication to humans and fluid gender another fancy name for saying i dont know a gender is not fluid a male is a male a female is a female and we dont need equality between man and woman . they still get the same right to vote for pay for jobs for help to abort an unwanted pregnacy (like a rape pregnancy) in the first 10 to 20 weeks (as far am conserned) but some things could never be equal and it need not to be
@iovechester56545 жыл бұрын
Tessy D. No I think you’re quite wrong there. We do need equality however I do agree that women are better at some things and men are better at others. It doesn’t mean the other can’t do it, it’s just harder I guess. But I see where you’re coming from, because honestly equality is such a strange topic, like women want benefits like men opening doors for us or paying for us, but then we say you can’t look at us or we’ll sue you, you know? It’s just frustrating because I as a women don’t want to be underestimated or taken advantage of but at the same time I want to be protected by a man because that’s what is was always like in nature? It’s confusing and weird.

But in other aspects, some man need more power to come equal to women, like in expressing their emotions.
@ellabooxo9 жыл бұрын
Littlesmile b personally, I think that, with the empowerment of women, empowerment of men will come naturally. Once we stop thinking feminine characteristics are negative, hopefully we'll stop pressuring men to be 'manly', start giving them more equal custody, be more accepting of trans people, etc.
@gavi76279 жыл бұрын
Littlesmile b Feminism is about equality. Men do not need to be empowered. Femininity needs to be empowered. The reason men expressing their emotions (your example) is seen as bad and weak is because those are feminine traits--and a man being feminine is BAD/sarcasm. So it is not the man that needs to be empowered, it's femininity, so if a man acts feminine, it does not make him 'less of a man,' it just makes him a human with the right to express himself as he pleases without fear. A lot of people don't realize that feminism aims to equalize the genders.

I think this video proves the older the wiser. I tip my hat to those older women, they know what the real world is like because they've lived it. The younger the people got the more naive they were. Life isn't fair no matter what you do. I'm hoping feminism is just the new fad young women are getting into because if feminism was serious, feminists should be buying plane tickets to the Middle East, where the oppression of women is actually serious. I personally haven't met a feminist who wasn't an arrogant and entitled lunatic. There might be a few who aren't but I've never met them, and I've met a lot. Also a feminist isn't someone who wants equal rights for both genders, that's an equalist. So I don't know why the word feminism would make someone think equality. I'll probably take some hate for my opinion, but oh well it's the Internet. If you're mad, go cry about. P.S. I'm female, age 23
@illuminatedmoonlight9 жыл бұрын
IFHY_ALL Feminism isn't a bad thing and it IS about equality. What do you think it's about if not equality? You really think it's about women being above men? Have you read the definition? Have you researched feminism and how far women have come? And about "buying a plane ticket" umm..that's part of the point. We're saying it's wrong and we're on their side. People who are "against feminism" are telling them what's happening to them is okay since women here are living almost equally. That's more arrogant in my opinion. Looking at your own life and saying I'm fine, we don't need feminism! We do. And you stated one of the reasons why. I'm not trying to hate on you. There's just FAR too many women saying they want equality but they are not feminist.
@paulwhite64139 жыл бұрын
***** I think actions speak louder than words. One of the popular feminist hashtags is KillAllMen, which definitely alienates a lot of people. Fines for "manspreading" (which was made possible through the work of feminists) have disproportionately affected poor minorities. A mob started by feminists ran Joss Wedon off Twitter with nasty messages and threats. They've run public speakers and comedians off university campuses. They promoted the sale of "This is what Feminism looks like" shirts that were made by women in a sweatshop. Historically, feminism has been a great thing, and we should all be thankful of the efforts that it took for gender equality to come so far. But right now, feminism is out of touch with reality. It has been taken over by toxic individuals and a lot of us have moved away from it to call ourselves Gender Egalitarians. People are finding out that they don't have to label themselves as a feminist in order to support equal rights.

I think I was around 8 when I finally learned what feminism meant. Before that I had a slight idea of it. I just thought of how all boys would say they're better and then we would say that we're better. By the time I was 10, I was fully aware of it and really wanted to change it (the patriarchy). I grew up with older siblings to tell me about this. I would go on walks with my sister where she taught me about this and where she would teach me Spanish, French, history, math, literature, and things like that because she wanted me to grow up smart and strong. I went shopping once with my other sister and I saw tons of ads where girls were only shown stick skinny because that's how you sell things apparently. I did grow up (this is only a few years later) and I am still seeing these things. I really think that educating children this is important. It's like teaching them about stranger danger and what number to dial in case of an emergency. We should know that this will be the next generation to continue our families and that they are not going to create the problems that some people in politics and a few other places have.

Some of the older woman don’t get it, because they were raised in a time were men dominated the world. The kids of this generation are lucky to be able to grow up in a time, were they are taught to know their worth. And that they matter just as much as Any guy. Feminism is not allowing yourself to be treated like less then you are. Feminism isn’t saying women are better then men, or vice versa. It’s about EQUALITY. We all have the same worth, so therefore we should all have the same rights. I’m aware that some feminist’s have lost their purpose, and turned feminism into something that it’s not. But that’s not what feminism is. The true root of feminism is equality. So if you believe in equality, then that makes you a feminist. People need to stop using the word feminism as something its not. If your not talking about absolute equality, then feminism shouldn’t be the word you use edit: “feminism (noun) : the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the belief in the social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. The doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men” there you go, the literal definition of feminism. keywords being *belief* , and *equal* . feminism is a belief, therefore, if you *believe* that men and women are *equal* you are a feminist. anyone else have a problem?

99 Bottles of Bleach no. i’m saying that feminism by its root, means the equality of men and women. therefore, if you agree that we are equal, you are a feminist. literally by definition. feminism isn’t some sort of propaganda. if you believe that men and women are equal, you agree with the core message of feminism. just like if you believe that all races are equal, you are against racism. it’s not that deep. it’s also beyond me why you wouldn’t want to be a part of something that literally just means the equality of human beings. why is there just a bad stigma around feminism. and don’t give me that “it’s not necessary in this time” bullshit. because until rape culture- and so many other issues stop being such a problem for women, feminism is still needed. and just because you live in a first world country, doesn’t mean you have the right to turn a blind eye to the extreme sexism that still exists in so many countries around the world. women still don’t have basic human rights in so many places. it’s disgusting. and to turn around and act like it’s over dramatic to want to stand up for human rights is disgusting too.
@billiebitch41915 жыл бұрын
Arjun and Arnav Menon i am a feminist and humanist. to me, and by definition, feminism means the equality of men and women. i believe strongly in that message. but i do also believe that women need empowerment. just because men and women are treated equally in america, doesn’t mean it’s like that everywhere. there are many places around the world where women still do not have basic human rights. how do those women not need feminism? how do they not need empowerment? how can you see what is happening right here, with rape culture, and still say we don’t need feminism. just look at statistics. look at the difference between men and women when it comes to sexual assault. sexism is still very much present in our day to day lives. thankfully, it is much less of an issue then it used to be (thanks to feminists) but it still is. did you know one out of six women will be raped in her life time? did you know that 90% of adult rape victims are female? that doesn’t sound like equality to me. so yes, women do need equality, and empowerment.

It was interesting to see that all the women 40+ thought it was unnecessary and everyone younger believe it's about empowerment and equal rights. I would have expected the women who were older to have gone through times were men were prioritised simply for being male whether it be coworkers, husbands, siblings etc and they would have wanted to fight for equal rights for themselves and their children. Hopefully their children grow up expecting more than their mothers did/do.
@kalliste019 жыл бұрын
k hk I feel like they should still care about feminism in general. It's due to a lot of feminist activities in the past that we have the benefits we do today. I would hope, if it were my Mum for example, that she would want there to be even more improvements so things she had to put up with she was my age I won't need to. Where 'new age feminism' is concerned, the wage gap isn't new, it's something women have been fighting to close for a long time and is one of the things I'd expect those 40+ aged women to care about or at least be thankful that they now make a closer amount of money to their male counterparts than they did when they were younger.

Shows how much wiser the older generation was. Read Proverbs 31:10-31 it’s shows a true biblical example of a virtuous women. It’s shows how valuable women are to the home when they are filling the position God has made us to be in. The proverbs 31 women is much less oppressed than the women screeching about equality these day. The only reason they don’t feel equal is because they have stepped outside the bounds of what womanhood is intended to be. In the eyes of God I’m equal to my husband but we have different roles in our home and in our marriage. It’s not inequality it’s completion of each other that’s what marriage was created by God to be.

Dictionary definition of feminism: the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. That is why I am a feminist. That definition right there. We are all human beings and derive the same rights simple as that. People don't get it sometimes though, I'm 16 and I try to explain to my friends what it is but media has given this twisted definition that feminists hate men and want to be more powerful when that's not true at all. Feminists don't hate men or want more power over men that literally the exact opposite of what it is. Feminists just want equality of opportunities and equality of rights and equality in the world.
