It's the filter caps that store enough juice to kill you. The right way to do it would be to touch the leads of the caps with a wire that goes to a resistor then to ground, then check the caps for voltage. I just clipped the bright cap and the is a noticeable difference at even 4 on the volume, which is where I usually run the amp. The only down side was that it got a little to dark when rolling back the guitar volume, which I fixed be adjusting the value in my guitars treble bleed

Celestion Creamback is decent… had one in mine but the Eminence GA SC64 is 🔥 Keeps the bottom end a little tighter imo than the CB. Took my bright cap out as well.

Thank you! Believe it or not there are no other videos on KZbin to show how to do the bright cap mod on a DRRI! Note: it would be great to have seen it a bit better and get a better cam approach. The sound of your video is also pretty rough which disappointed me a bit, I tend to like “iPhone videos” they give a more realistic ideia of how exactly the amp sounds in the room but yours don’t!! It rattled bit time and I couldn’t realize whether the cap mod did any difference. Could you please share if this is really a drastic difference before/after? That would be also nice, if you have done a before/after sound clipping to see the differences. Still tough great for doing it! Highly appreciated and already subscribed 👍

Thanks, I've changed my recording process a bit so now I think I get much better audio when recording. It definitely made a difference on the amp at lower volumes, I feel like you can achieve the same sound with the EQ but you really need to turn the treble way down. I also swapped the speaker to a celestion cream back now, so with the bright cap and the speaker change it does make a big difference

I have the same amp and it has so much treble that I have to turn the treble all the way to zero and bass to 10.. I have to back my tone on my guitar back to about 2 or 3 . It’s horrible. In all fairness, if I turn it up to about 5, the amp is controlable. I use a delay and a nobles od and it’s like you said, amp does not take them well. Fender should have left that c10 cap out of the circuit. Thanks for the video, it is very informative.

Ok so at lower volumes it won’t be as bright… will this make it darker at the higher volumes though?

after many years of dealing with modern and vintage fender amps i have to say: modern jensen speakers are absolute crap, they have nothing to do with the old ones since they stopped making guitar amp speakers in the 60's. back in the 90's when fender finally launched the ri line they needed the original speakers which are jensens so they had to buy old speakers from ebay and reverse engineer them...we all heard that story before it never works out not with pickups, speakers transformers tubes the old stuff was better the new stuff sounds stiff overly bright and harsh.

Why not just add a toggle switch to take it out and add it back in?

That's a good idea!

There is absolutely nothing that will make this amp sound "better". It sounds great the way it is with NO pedals......if you don't like it, get another. Its perfect the way it is.................

I believe there is some room for improvement, as with most things. I love tweaking and modifying my gear to my taste 🤷♂️
