In this video I work on a Ferguson TED20 just to try and get it running. I replace the fuel tap assembly and dismantle the carburettor which is a Zenith 28G.

I've always steered clear of carbs and fuel pumps, but after watching you videos I'll certainly be having a go in the future. When I got my E27N it would run on petrol for a while then stop..after a while it would start again and then stop. After a lot of head scratching and elimination it turned out the previous owner had change a fuel line and had left the olive too far up the pipe causing the pipe to bottom out on the casing and only letting a drybble of fuel to the carb. a minute with a hacksaw was all it took An interesting fact about thread tape...it was only developed to be a pipe thread lubricant. The fact it also acted as a sealant was a lucky coincidence and a headache to many of us
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 2 жыл бұрын
I never knew that about the thread tape, these tractors are often that old there is no telling what Farmer fixes have been done.

Thanks for the video Lance. Keep them coming. They are a big help. Just a thought about the float test of your repair. Since the density of gasoline is only 3/4 that of water, there are situations where it would float in water, but not in gasoline.

Good stuff Lance, I got a set of AF spanners if you need them mate. Also I find a 50/50 mix of cellulose thinners and kerosene is the best for cleaning up old carbs, just submerge the carb in and leave it a few days. Keep up the good work mate.

Great video as usual Lance, interesting that there's a mix of imperial and metric fasteners there! I would have guessed with the age of the tractor it would all be imperial, wrong again...
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a bit odd and a pain in the bum thus the shifting spanner, you would think they were imperial for sure.

They'll definitely all be imperial sizes on a te20 the UK didn't go metric until well after they were built haha. Maybe just wear/mess on the bolts/nuts 👌

@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 жыл бұрын
G Day Paul, Go through my governor adjusting video then hold the tractor at high revs (flat out) and adjust the main jet to get it running smoothly. The main jet it the big thumb screw.

Hello Lance, I have a question regarding the TEA-20 that I am restoring. When replacing the oil filter I noticed an adjustment locking nut and screw on the oil filter housing. Can you tell me anything about this adjuster??? Look forward to all your videos, they are very very much appreciated. Thanks!! Spring is awfully late arriving in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario (49th parallel) this year. Wish I could send you some snow.

Hey Lance, I have a T30 Ferguson and I just rebuilt the carburetor and cleaned out the oil bath filter. The tractor runs great without the oil bath line attached to the carburetor but when I attach it and run the tractor for a bit then shut it off, the carburetor floods out, runs up the oil bath line, fills up and dumps into the oil. Any ideas? Tractor man in need!
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 жыл бұрын
G Day John, I think your needle and seat are not sealing as they should. When you stop your tractor the carb bowl will fill with fuel and the float will push on the needle and cut further fuel supply off until the tractor uses some fuel from the bowl. I would suggest checking the needle and seat.

would be nice if you had some wrenches or spanners , i dont like nut rounders but they do make good hammers
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 жыл бұрын
G Day Jerry, Yes I often do use the correct spanners but on these carbies they have a lot of rounded corners from shifting spanners and often the best way is to use a shifter once more, also there is a mix of metric and imperial on these so I find it easier and quicker with just a shifter. They do make a good hammer though lol.

That lack of fuel flow when the fuel bowl is fitted is what my TEA20 does. The bowl fills quickly, plus rust particles, once I start the tractor though. I am just replacing the tank as it is full of rust, refurbed the fuel tap and carby is next on the list. I'm expecting the carby to be full of crap too.

G day Danny, You would need to drink beer to be my neighbour lol. To set the main jet just rev it hard and adjust it to run sweet while up on high idle. Go a little richer than lean. On the idle just adjust it in turn with the idle speed screw until you find a happy medium.

Lance, I reviewed your www.queenslandtractorspares.com.au website and found the excellent reference on TE20 Serial Numbers. Much appreciated resource. I now understand that a TED20 is a Ferguson Tractor with Standard TVO (Tractor Vaporising Oil) engine. I would assume that petrol-paraffin is no longer available in Australia and United Kingdom. Do you use kerosene fuel to run this tractor after you start the engine with petrol?

I think you'll find Tubal Cain disproved the theory of "correct" orientation of an adjustable spanner; kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5u8iKOnltaGY5Y He showed it doesn't matter which way round you use it because you shouldn't use it in high torque situations anyhoo! So I'm with Lance and use it whichever way works..
