Moving around, or touching or worse bumping/pressing/tugging a mat relieves this tension on one side but multiplies it on the other. @@ltyrell405 I was looking for a comment like this, this cat is clearly terrified, especially of the blower. Work like this absolutely needs to be done, and from what it looks like this groomer is very gentle (or tries to be, cases like this are tough). It's hard being as small as a cat, even if this guy looks pretty big as far as cats go. Trying to be ferocious and perceived as a threat is a survival instinct, the more you look like work to hunt as prey, the less likely you are to be attacked. It's something humans have learned too, a recommendation for people who are getting abducted is to be as difficult as possible and fight as hard as you can, there's always a chance your attacker will decide you're just not worth the effort. Cats have the most delightful angry faces when they're in the astronaut helmet. i have to get my Maine Coon groomed because he no longer allows me to groom him at home. i kept up with it when he was younger, but then I moved away for college and my parents didn't do it as often as I did. Now he is a grumpy old man and tries to bite me for just brushing him. 🤷♀️

Poor cat nothing. The cat was “stressed” because he was having to do something he didn’t want to. And guess what, WE ALL have to do things we don’t want to do sometimes, it’s call get over it. He was not scared, he was annoyed and thought he was going to get his way by being an asshole and making her life as hard as possible.

A friend of mine used to breed and show Birmans, a long-haired breed. Joan was outstanding at preparing cats for a show - they were the most immaculate fluff balls you could ever see. She advised me that one of the best tools to getting matts out is a seam ripper - the sewing tool. It has a sharp point, so you have to be careful, but it's easy to wield in awkward spaces. It goes in and cuts through the matted hairs, making it easier to pull them apart and release them. I use one on my own cats - my late Birman, and my Norweigan Forest. It reduces the need to tug with a comb and makes grooming easier for both parties.
@АлинаРыжова-с6ь2 жыл бұрын
that's actually pretty useful! I have a senior Siberian who can't tolerate even little pulling and I have to be extremely gentle for my own safety lol. Though I'm still kinda scared to use something so sharp.
@dreaming-of-spots68052 жыл бұрын
Ooh, that's brill! I usually use trauma shears on mats, especially larger ones- it's easy to get them underneath the mats and hard to poke or accidentally cut the cat.
@jwolfe12092 жыл бұрын
@@dreaming-of-spots6805 I would strongly suggest slipping the teeth of a comb between the skin and the mat before snipping, even with those shears. Cat skin is exceptionally prone to getting pulled up into mats and the comb makes sure any wrinkles are well out of the way. I frequently use a comb and my thinning shears to break up matting on more sensitive clients and it's been invaluable on behind the ear matting when the pet won't tolerate clippers near the head
@A.Girl.Has.No.Name.2 жыл бұрын
I used the Maxpower dematting tool on my Brit's back end, as he would act like this floof when I'd brush it, and he'd get mats. It's the same idea as a seam ripper, but it has multiple hooks that protect the razor sharp edge that gets under the mat, and cuts it off. Check Amazon, thr pics will explain it better, but boy did it work wonders. I thought I was going to have to shave my his fuzzy "pants" off, rather than just doing the regular sanitary shave.

@@JCArules13 I know it is not easy. I have 4 pet cats now and several stray cats I feed outside our house. I use gloves when I know I will be "attacked" by any of the cats that hate what I plan to do with them like brushing their fur, giving them meds, cleaning their wound, One stray cat hates being brushed (which he needs because he has issues with hair balls). It was so hard at first, but eventually, he was able to tolerate it. It has to start somewhere or the cat will never get used to it.

I completely sympathize with both you and the the owners here. My Bailey is also a big long-hair (raggamuffin mix, rescued) and hates having her backside touched for any reason; yet as an older cat, she can no longer completely reach back there to clean herself thoroughly without help. Her fur is extremely fine, and traps every little grain of anything that might be around. Once started, a mat can spread to the rest of her side in a day or so (she likes to roll around on the floor, sunbeam present or not, lol). So, for her health, she gets shaved from flanks back to the tail tip while under anesthesia during her yearly dental appointment and I work to maintain the shaved area as it grows back. Still requires me to carefully remove any starting mats every now and then, but at least we haven't had any stinky mats back there in years. But the rest of her fur forward of her flanks she has no issues with me grooming.

Funny, when my cat peed on my bed, next to me, whilst house-sitting, I needed wine too. It took me 13 hours to clean the mattress as good as new. Then I went to the nearest bottle shop and picked up two bottles of my fave wine. The clerk asked if I was having a party. I calmly replied, “nope. My cat peed on my bed and I’ve spent the last 13 hours cleaning the mattress. I need some wine and I’m not at all sure one bottle will be enough!” The poor guy just gaped at me. It took a bottle and a half to send me nicely stewed.
