Alpine A110 would also be interesting, but not sure if they have enough data (number of cars for sale and years of price development). The third one: Lotus Exige (supercharged variants).

I could have purchased a F12 or even a superfast, however, I went for the 599. Firstly, I’m a driver and don’t need/want multimedia in my cars. I have all those toys at home. I get in a car to drive, and enjoy the drive exclusively. Secondly, the 599 has 620 HP. I feel that the seat-of-the-pants sensation of speed over 550-750hp is almost identical on public roads. Unless you’re on a track at 10 tenths and full tilt, you won’t notice any perceptible difference between 620 and 720 hp. Finally, the 599 is arguably the last truly analog Ferrari GT car but it still has a TFT screen for the only reason one should be needed in car...to tell you about the functionality of the machine your sat in, its engine, tires and driving mode...not if your pesky Ipod is playing the right album sleeve photo...All future Ferrari GT cars after it were packed with electronics = weight. If you know anything about power to weight ratios, you’ll know that weight cancels HP, thats why at the end of production of any ferrari they release a stripped down, no gizmo variant that sells later for double the price of the electronics packed normal version. If you’ve ever bought any electronics you’ll know that their life cycle gets outdated very quickly. What better than the last ferrari gt with massive power, less gizmos/electronics and just pure analog driving dynamics? The gearbox shifts in 100ms or less in sport mode, I challenge anyone to spot any discernible difference between that shift speed and my other ferrari a caliT that does the shift in 90ms (same as F12). Pininfarini designed the 599 with the mythical Frank Stephenson...there won’t be another Ferrari so beautifully designed by these two car design icons. Look at the price of a 599 GTO which is the stripped down version (less weight), as with the F12 TDF they’re between 500k to 1m USD, why? Well ferrari ripped out all the things I don’t want in car (multimedia BS) and took the car back to a drivers car. My rationale for buying a 599 was the aforementioned. Money was no object in my decision.

Was my dream car. Owned it for 2 years. Here’s my review: With its magic lines by Pininfarina, thumping V12 engine full of charisma, and unequalled physical presence on the road, the Ferrari 599GTB is the best GT car in the world (…still). It’s not the numbers. Annoyingly, my modern day hatch is close to quicker off the line, and can be launched more than once without expensive repairs. You can get to 100 in 3.6 seconds in the 599. Apparently. But no one does because you’d only have to keep on rolling down to the nearest garage for a new clutch. Slapping together those plates on a single clutch gear box is like dropping an egg from 5 inches…you’re not 100% sure it will break, but you mentally prepare for a messy clean up. And if it does hold together, you know you won’t tempt the gods a second time that day. Anyhow, even if you wanted to launch the 599 you couldn’t actually do it. It’s impossible. I know because we tried. It’s a good story: We once narrowly avoided the embarrassing situation of being stranded in a conspicuously red Ferrari on the side of the road with no petrol. Embarrassing because it would have meant that every car (and truck) we had enthusiastically overtaken a little while earlier would then have happily returned the favor. We rolled along at 60kph in a 120pkh zone, for kilometer after kilometer on an outback Australian road, with half a bar on the petrol gauge. Anyone who has owned a Ferrari V12 will know just how desperately desperate that actually is. It was so desperate in fact that we lost our minds. Every time we saw a little tin shed coming up we somehow extrapolated that this meant a big shiny petrol station with tonnes of 98 octane was just around the corner. There wasn’t. Amazingly, my girlfriend adopted a strategy of false reassurance regarding the distance to the next main town according to Google maps. I was informed that there were only 15 kilometers to survive at one point. Only after we had rehydrated the dry angry red beast did she tell me that it was closer to 40 kilometers. That was the definition of a miracle. I can only assume that there is a yet undiscovered emergency-backup-for-emergency-reserves-emergency-tank in the 599 somewhere. In a state of euphoria, we agreed to launch the 599 as a celebration. We pulled the paddles: both, then left, then right, pushed the LC button (several times), pushed the break, tried pulling the paddles some more, watched KZbin videos, read some forums, scratched our heads, then eventually decided that we should give up and get going before the sun completely disappeared and forced us back to 60kph in a 120kph zone situation, this time to dodge kangaroos. So, it’s impossible to launch the 599. But to finish, may I quickly remind you of a steadfast rule we now apply to any not-normal car…whenever there is a chance to top up, you top completely up, irrespective of if your tank is already 95% full. This rule is not to be broken. So, no, the Ferrari 599 GTB is not the greatest GT because of the numbers, and rightly so, as they are nowadays irrelevant. Aside from my hatch, there are a plethora of family sedans that ARE quicker, and more practical. Performance will always increase, it has to. There is no ceiling. Horses, to petrol, to more cylinders, to better petrol, to even more cylinders, to turbos and superchargers, to carbon fiber, to hybrids to full electric. There will always be a gateway for innovation of the fastest car in the world. So why is this car the best GT in the world (…still)? Well, it’s the size, shape and sheer driving thrills that embody the Ferrari 599GTB Fiorano. Every time I spot it on the road I go weak, and I always take a second glace. That’s a very good sign your on to a good thing. There is something unmatchable about the lines. Those curves. They are in all the right places. In Rosso Corsa, this car rivals Penelope Cruz in Casino Royale, like the paint could just peel away as a big billowing silk sheet to reveal the beauty underlying it. The perfect touch to this car is the addition of 599GTO rims-it becomes irreplaceable. I personally didn’t use it as a daily driver, it was too inconvenient for this. The clutch needed to be warmed up before driving it out the garage (minimum 5 minutes). Initially the car lurched under minor throttle pedal (function of the gear box) until it heated up, thus, town driving wasn’t smooth. However, when it got all hot and sweaty, it was incredible. It was like being on a rocket whilst sitting in two armchairs. The interior is more spacious than inside of the Sistine Chapel, and just as luxe. The V12 is simply stunning. It pulls at 100kph, at 200kph, at 250kph (provided it has petrol disappearing down the valves like sinkholes). It’s a big car, but at speed it feels agile and tiny, like a go-kart, and it’s an amazing feeling, the cavern shrinking in around you. The Great Ocean Road twists and turns are dealt with like you’re in a Lotus Elise R. Then on gun-barrel roads of the Nullarbor it’s like you’re on a freight train, travelling in first class. All the while, still being the best looking GT on the road. It’s also so completely absurd that I can’t help but love it for being so. It’s larger than the Titanic, and for the first few minutes behind the wheel it is what I imagine steering a barge down the Yarra River to be like. The father of the 599 undoubtedly looked down upon his creation like a newborn child, with the biggest Italian smile you could imagine. It was probably perfect to him, albeit entirely impractical to the rest of the world’s roads. Yet that fat little Italian didn’t give a flying fruitcake about the rest of the world, it was his baby, proud as punch. And neither do I. It is a once in a lifetime car. Cars will not be so large in the future, as practicality becomes the new desired trend. Lines on an automobile will never be so beautiful now the artist has been elbowed aside by the aerodynamic engineer. There will never be another engine with that X-factor. It began with the Enzo. Which is undoubtedly to supercars what Michael Jackson is to pop and Ali is to boxing, geniuses born in the right place in the right time throughout history who managed to create the perfect social context. Before saturation and mass consumption took over. Revered. The Enzo is that special one. Not the fastest, just special. When it comes to the 599 engine, well, it just exudes charisma. I fell in love with it negotiating the Great Ocean Road one night. The front bonnet (upon which you could land a plane both long ways or sideways) darted from corner to corner and the engine hummed enthusiastically with each tap of the pedal, pulling the great red beast along like the wheel-base had been shortened by 2 meters and gravity had been temporarily suspended. It was effortless. Other worldly. Italian. It was Ferrari. It was that thoroughbred, crimson red DNA born straight out of the 40’s. Ultimately I couldn’t afford it, but I will love it forever. The 599 was never considered prestige in comparison to other V12’s such as the 550, the 575, or the Daytona. In fact, some said it was too technical and not enough soul. Not special enough. Why did I love it? Because to me it was the absolute ticket. And that is all that will ever matter. The fact that it also was an epic to drive was a bonus. The only other car I would prefer is the 599GTO. Because, unbelievably, somehow I think it looks even more astonishing. Better than the F12, the TDF, the 812SF, and the Daytona. It will remain the most beautiful car to me forever. And in the time it has taken you to read this the Bugatti Divo is probably no longer the fastest production car in the world. Nor is it the most beautiful. It has come full circle now. A decade ago I sat in a beautiful red 599 in the dealership, when they had new sticker price on them. Like all amateurs on their first attempt, I was as elegant as a 3-legged donkey, and managed to bump the horn on the steering wheel- loudly- and get the poor salesman in trouble for the disturbance. But it was like meeting my hero, beyond belief. It was an absolute dream, as is having owned one. Eventually, the monthly premiums eroded through my Rosso Corsa-tinted glasses and whacked me around the head with a well-overdue sense of reality. I calculated over $200,000 in interest and depreciation. An enormous numerical loss. But it was the greatest double summer romance. And as my lasting legacy, I clocked as many kilometers in 24 months as the previous owner did in 8 years, and that, ladies and gentleman, is what the bloody thing is for. And it delivers in spades.

Absolutely loved your inspirational comment and shared experience with your 599. I bought one few months ago, a GTB. Is the best car I have ever owned, period. Is my daily driver and the only thing that is starting to pound on me is the cost of gas. As the world nears a world war and the prospect of gas going to double or triple prices of what already is, there is a chance of these cars, mine included, becoming a furniture piece with no practical usability. I am torn..

I have a 599 GTB but it is no ordinary 599. Chassis number 160000 has competed in the Mille Miglia Tribute three times (winning the V12 class in 2017). In every running of the event it was in, it was as a new evolution with factory supplied XX program and GTO variant parts added each time. It was driven a 3,000 miles round trip each time and is currently sitting on ten times that mileage. All of the upgrades were dealer fitted and with its participation the car is now historically significant and thus appears in each of the respective Mille Miglia year books in the museum in Brescia. It is a car that will be kept by me forever. Meanwhile all Ferrari V12 two seaters depreciate massively over their initial years and during that time as used cars they are mileage sensitive. After that they become old and become collectible and eligible for more events so they start to rise inexorably and no one cares about mileages. As the worldwide market for all cars continues to expand, Ferrari continues to limit their production growth to be deliberately below that of the overall global automotive market hence why the rarity factory kicks in more and more the older the vehicles get. This is and has always been Ferrari's business model which rewards its loyal customers in the long term. Whilst I agree with some of the sentiments below I believe that it will not be the 599 that is ultimately the most coveted, though no doubt it will be highly collectible. In my opinion it be the last naturally aspirated V12 from Ferrari that will become the most coveted just as the 458 is for the V8 line. Meanwhile, I don't really care because I am a driving enthusiast, not an investment enthusiast so, whilst these videos are interesting I wish all the speculators would just leave the market and leave us alone to enjoy living with the cars and using them. If at a car show anyone asks me about: a) it being non-standard b) its value c) the mileage or d) condition they get short shrift from me. Its a car not an old painting or bottle of wine and shock horror they need using otherwise they start failing due to lack of use and cost big ££££ to fix so the whole low mileage thing is really just a cult doctrine for people who couldn't really afford to buy and run one in the first place. The best thing about the video was that these market watchers are finally catching onto the idea that spec makes a huge difference to the car. in period the purchase price of the car could be half as much again with lots of options plus the Scaglietti personalisation program. For years armchair experts claimed it made no difference but as modern Ferrari's are now highly personalised that also means that used Ferrari customers are all very picky about what represents their ideal car. If for example you have ever owned a cream leather Ferrari and wear jeans you will likely never ever consider one again. Equally if you think the only colour for a V12 is a more subtle metallic you will never select Red and if you want the Daytona seats you are unlikely to select plain seats. All of this means there is eventually fewer people chasing fewer cars and any car spec's with an 'out-there' colour combo is unlikely to realise the same value as something more suited to the cars form. You need to start adding these into your analysis otherwise there is a whole aspect to Ferrari ownership you are missing. Both my F430 and 599 are super high spec cars and don't compare at all to the base cars in use or value.

I own a Factory Ferrari 599 6 -speed manual and the values have only been going up. 30 made, last Ferrari to have a V13 with third pedal and paired with the Enzo engine. I love driving it and I think is the last really Ferrari GT.

You do some really great analysis in your videos. It would be interesting to get an updated analysis of the Aston Martin Vantage DB9 and DB11. I have noticed that whilst the price of the DB11 has been falling, the prices of the DB9 (gen 1 and 2) have been static, so what will happen once the oldest DB11 falls equal the latest DB9? The price differential is very small today.

All Front engined Ferraris depreciate since the terrible 456 imho (Ferrari add a chunk of extra profit c £100k in in a V12 grand tourer over V8 sports and this never gets reconciled as a value proposition - The piccolo Ferraris 246 to 388 is where sensible money goes but buy wisely, eg at the end of depn curve...348 even rising now - who would have thought !!

Which markets are you looking at and how are you segmenting them when it comes to determining how many vehicles will be counted as “in the market”? I’ve gone on CarGurus U.S. and have found 49 for sale, so I have a feeling you’re analyzing a different area of the market.
