Yes, genuine quality car-enthusiast's content from the guru! Many thanks Harry. "Too fast for the road?" Yes, after 2022 aren't all new cars to be fitted with Active ISA (Intelligent Speed Adaption), that will limit the car to the speed limit of the road, and data log it, so the police can prosecute you later? So you won't be going over 60 mph once out of town on those local roads. And local 'old-pick-ups' will be overtaking you in your new 2022 SF90. Cheers.
@johnnym9760
@johnnym9760 4 жыл бұрын
Fantastic video as always Harry. If ISA is introduced, these types of cars will be relegated to just driving slowly around Harrods and Knightsbridge in traffic jams, showing off... or day trips to the German autobahns, where anyway speed restrictions could soon be introduced - the ADAC has softened it's opposition to restrictions due to climate change? What do you think, Harry?

@@ukbondraider to date? I don’t think you meant to say that. Ferrari’s V8 design peaked with the 458 Italia. After that after single mid engine v8 Ferrari was an evolution of that kind of like what Porsche does with 911. But instead of making the pininfarina designed 458 more attractive they kept ruining it. Now we have this mess. The back looks plain weird and the double large tail lights were a bigger statement than these quad ones on the F8. The front end is way too busy and they still didn’t move away from that dated headlight design. Oh and the interior is over 10 years old now. New vents here and there won’t make it look new. Look at the 812 Superfast as well it looks way worse than the f12berlinetta. The design got busier. I understand beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For example I think the SF90 looks great and fresh and the F8 should’ve looked like that but instead it had to be a separate model for much more money because development costs a fortune and they need to make a profit. Anyway I’m not a fan of modern super cars or modern cars for that matter. The 60s had the best designs IMO.

@moogle68

Except with EVs, you don't have to make compromises to get that sort of performance the way you do with ICEs. Harry literally marveled at the fact that this had a GLOVE BOX, whereas EVs with this performance level are full sized luxury sedans. EVs can also feel like well sorted cars at normal speeds whereas here, Harry is saying it just doesn't feel right to drive at normal speeds. I like the sounds of a good N/A ICE just like you do, but at the end of the day is that ONE factor so great that the rest doesn't matter? Besides, they are already starting to figure out how to get some unique and enjoyable sounds back into the experience of driving. I for one really enjoy the sound that some of these EV motors make under hard acceleration. The whine kind of reminds me of that of a good supercharger, like the one on the Hellcats.

I agree with you; it really sharpens up the 488GTB and for me the return to 4 tail lights links it much better to its heritage. As to the performance, I haven't driven the F8 yet but from the experience in the 488 I think they've done a good job of giving these cars effortless acceleration in normal use while reserving the absolute madness for when you specifically go looking for it. And for a turbo it sounds a lot better than it has any right to! Bodes well for any Dino-type car that might be in the pipeline. But I would never drive a car like this as a daily driver. I'd want to reserve it for times when I could enjoy it and not dilute that sense of occasion. After all, if you get used to an F8, where do you go next?

Harry nails it at the end and why we are building a home in Italy. As a supercar addict I know I can enjoy my supercars in their full glory on a Sunday morning in the hills around our farm and get nothing but love from the neighbours - here in the UK this car is a one way ticket to fines or frustration. Unless manufacturers start to make low weight, low powered cars for enthusiasts in quiet roads and the heavy traffic becomes nose to tale autonomous driving vehicles for the masses, driving for its own sake is going to be over in the UK. Sad but true - this car is utterly wasted on the UK road and on 99% of the UK buyers.

I don‘t get why none of the luxury performance brands make 4 points using adapted 3 point hardware: have one belt left and one right with a fixed buckle each and a belt tensioner including the explosive crash pretensioners on both the hip belt attachment points, and (slightly weaker) belt tensioners with force limiters on the shoulder belts. It would reduce submarining considerably because of the explosive tensioners, it would ease the strain on the neck because of the force limiters (so you don‘t snap your neck and the airbag can do its job), and lastly it would even be more comfortable to put on and drive with (e.g. when you have to lean out a window).

To all those complaining about the in car tech and the list costs, you're unlikely to be the target market or even potential purchasers. Surely this car and the other recent mid-engine V8s are the epitome of Enzo Ferrari's attributed quote that "I don't sell cars, I sell engines. The car I throw in for free". For the money you're paying, you're buying a superlative, class-of-its-own engine. Those who buy accept the CarPlay costs, because if they wanted in-car tech, they'd buy an Audi with three screens or whatever the vogue is.
