The issue was that Nylander's contract set the stage for the next negotiations. Also, Nylander got 7.45M which ended up being a 6.9 cap hit due to the missed games. In contract negotiations they would use the value of the contract not the technical cap hit. Marner is a special player. He has ice vision and hockey IQ that makes Gretzky excited.... they should have signed him for 9 last year.

I like Holl and Rosen so Leafs defence looks fine. I say trade Brown and Kadri with Zaitsev for another good Dman, left or right. And I do like keeping Ennis on 4th line, Gauthier is fine with me, he is developing and played better and better last year. Give these guys a chance, the Goat must be really working out this summer, he is quite fast for a big guy, good on PK too, Brown though, he is just wasted space on any line, he has to be very lucky to score even though he gets primo shots all the time, biggest thing is though he doesn't move the puck well, he panics, dumps it in, just takes an easy long shot at net etc, basically those are all giveaways, don't know what happened to his offensive ability but his defence isn't anything special either, not worth over 1.5 and no place on a winning team for this deadend slug

@@jordan-sp4db True, but if you look at just about any team in the league, and who their 4 most recent 1st round picks, it's hard to find very many that wouldn't we at least worth Mitch Marner, or any other player in the league for that matter. I love Marner, but if it came between getting 4 first round picks and having the cap space to sign a big name UFA or 2, or matching an offer sheet for Mitch Marner at, say $11 million AAV, it would be tough to turn down the draft picks, especially when the team has another 2 or 3 star forwards
