*Great saw **MyBest.Tools** and track for the price can't beat it although the blade could be better but easily switched out.*

Great review. I’ve had a TS55 for 4 years. The cut is so clean sanding time is greatly reduced. The Festool dust extractor is head and shoulders above the other two Ridgid ones I have. This reduces shop clean up time. I have zero regrets at spending what seems like so much money.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Roger - we all continue to learn day by day. My experience of a lot of power tools is that the R and D depts have often got there before you so every advance needs a bit of extra knowledge to use the tool to full capacity. Lots of people complain about H and S rules, but many of the regs have made for safer and easier to use tools - so fewer lost fingers. All good as far as I am concerned. I still like the TS55 though - its a great tool.

I own and use the previous version of the saw now for 10 years. The only disadvantage I discovered so far is the lack of power when cutting thick material. I love the precision and dust extration of festool equipment.

Hi Roger, have you ever thought of doing a plunge saw review on different makes, cost, features. Im looking to purchase a track and plunge but theres are so many out there now, its a hard to know which one to go for. Keep up the great work. Andy

Hi Andy We have it on our list but we are finding it hard to get through the ones we have so if you need a saw it is probably best if you don't wait. I have the Makita and I am very happy with it.

Hi. Maybe you can take it off but on the blade side having the flat face so you can get 12mm up to an edge there is a black knob for splinter guard/window that sticks out. Does this not make it get in the way of getting hard into a wall? Thanks for great reviews

I too had a kick from my Makita track saw when I first brought it at the end of the cut as did not have enough support on underside of the board put a nasty nick in my track.

I'm really desperate for Roger to do extractors too. I've never spent so much time researching into a tool like an extractor/vacuum, and still feel very indecisive of which one to buy. I need a 110v but i have heard some have problems with the power take off feature. Also i dont want one too big or heavy. Sorry just had to get this off my chest. I really hope skillbuilder covers the vacuums/extractors out there (could be a full hour or more show though haha). I wonder which make Roger uses?

nice video mate, i saw in the video you didnt use the rail clamps, how secure is the track without the clamps, thanks
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
hardly anyone uses the clamps. Most of the time the rail stays where it lays because of the rubber strips on the back but if it is a really expensive door a I might get them out as a safeguard.

True, I only use the rail clamps on slippery, hard to cut materials, like 22mm concrete plywood (if that is the correct English term).

Why does my new Festool TS 55 REQ will not cut thicker than 3/4" stock., even when I set the depth of cut to the max. Is there any lock that I have not disengaged?

@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
sorry I have only just found this question. If it is melamine faced Conti board it will be fine. If you want to be sure try a bit and you can always make a scribe cut but really I don't think it will be a problem to make the one cut. I have done lots of board like that.

What we know as a brushless motor in power tools needs a DC voltage on the input (the motor itself runs on a variable frequency 3-phase AC generated by the electronics out of the DC). To run such a motor from the mains you need a rectifier to generate the DC first which is chunky and heavy wich might be the reason that corded power tools often don't have brushless motors.
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
You seem to know quite a bit about this so perhaps you can tell us if there is any advantage in a brushless motor for larger tools? Bosch told me that a 4 pole AC has more torque and is therefore the best choice for SDS Max and large circular saws.

A modern bridge rectifier block is about an inch square and weighs a little over an ounce.It can be fastened to a metal part of the machine case as a heat sink.

Mafell doesn’t have a secondary handle, I think you are supposed to hold the baseplate or something? I just bought the Bosch which has the same baseplate. Is it safe to hold it there like the Mafell?
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
Nothing is completely safe. I tend to hold the motor housing but I know people who hold the base plate. The danger is always on a kick-back when it jumps off the track so having firm pressure with both hands is essential.
@thulegezelschap5884

Skill Builder I just bought the Bosch (your advise was taken :D) but these sadists at the shop thought it was funny to send it without the track.. which will take 8 days.. That is like taking a girl over to your house without having condoms 😁 I thought I would use that time to see how bad it would kick back when randomly plunging it into a piece of plywood. So far it hasn’t jumped at all even when I stacked two layers. But maybe it behaves different on the track.. I will try holding the housing then and see how that goes.
@dogstar5572
@dogstar5572 3 жыл бұрын
It won’t kick back if you know how to use it. Push it forward only when the trigger is at full power. If your housing out some thick material just take it slow to start with. It’s a precision tool not a blunt instrument.

we will give it a go. We need them to lend us a machine and agree to leave us alone to make an independent review. That is a problem for some manufacturers. They want control and we don't do that.

Im trying to decide between the TS 55 or the HK 55. I am designing furniture such as cabinets and seating. Im starting my Festool collection and Im undecided between the TS and the HK line. Since the HK can do the cross cuts and can also plunge like the TS line and rip. Im wondering, if its just one Saw, which to chose. If I would get the TS, I figured I would need the MFT/3 table with the cross cutting outfits for the table. Im looking to do repetitive Rips and Crosscuts What are your thought? Danny
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
To my mind the HK55 is more of a site tool. If it often used with the short locked on cross cut rail but I mostly use my mitre saw for cross cutting. I would use the HK55 for cutting rafters because you can cut them on the scaffolding and I suppose it would speed up cladding. The TS55 is great for sheet materials and plunge cutting. I would like to hear what owners of the HK say because there could be advantages I haven't yet seen.
@dkamhaji
@dkamhaji 8 жыл бұрын
Skill Builder as far as i understand it, the ts55 along with an Mft/3 table kit will be able to handle rios and cross cuts and more efficiently. And then the Hk 55 kit along an extra long rail would technically be able to handle the same. And my question to you or anyone is Which would they go for as their one saw.

Doesnt the REBQ have a 1200w motor compared to the R which has a 1050w weaker motor?
@Mastering3d
@Mastering3d 6 жыл бұрын
I know i am lat to the party but the anti kickback should be a very easy ad on for fester ,All they need to do is add a sensor to the base of the saw telling the saw its now down ,And if the saw gets kicked back and lifts on the base then the motor with ill just turn off . Or just make sure the rail is clamped down then you should never get kick back ..

Iv got the 110 and 36v version, both nice but cut about 0.75mm out on the track so carnt use same track for both saws really annoying!
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
That is annoying. I wish we had looked at that but when we do the next test we will. The say that you have to turn the wheels to take out the slack and then run it through the rubber to match the saw to the track but having two or more saws makes that impossible.
@Filmchippy
@Filmchippy 8 жыл бұрын
Ian Mottram read the ts55 supplemental manual (Google it) you can set up the saws so they are both exactly the same. Very easy to do by just loosening off a few screws and adjusting the base plate, this will solve your problem.

anyone know if festool guide rails can be used with the metabo circular saws???
@kiwigrunt330
@kiwigrunt330 Жыл бұрын
All of these saws kick back because they share a fundamental design mistake. They plunge/hinge from the rear rather than the front, like my old Elu MH25 did. This means that when you plunge it into the timber, it tries to cut down with the back of the blade, where the teeth are going down rather that up, so the movement works against you. Think about how we would 'plunge' a normal skillsaw into timber. We would rest it at the front and pivot it down, not at the back.

Yes Bosch bought Skil some years ago. There was a time when a Skil Saw was a good American made machine and everyone trusted them but now it is a label. Bosch has done nothing with it their focus is elsewhere.
