Also known as the Sebile or GT knot, it connects the leader to the main line. It could be braid to a mono or fluorocarbon leader. It is popular with sport fishing skippers in Australia mainly and all over the world. It might seem difficult at first, but with practice, you can do it quite easily and fast, in just about 30 seconds to be precise. That should be reason enough for it being your go-to leader knot. It is a good alternative to expensive wind on leaders. It has emerged a winner is most strength tests with knots for the same purpose. Though there are multiple ways to tie, many of which have been touted tough, we choose to stick with one of the simpler versions popularized by Captain Jason Ehrlich of Australian. History The FG (full form fine grip) knot was originally designed by GT fishermen who found their line to line connections giving way due to the hard fighting giant fish. They also wanted something that could easily pass through the guides since they were mainly casting poppers and swim baits. Credit to 101 Knots.

Hhhmmmm..... excellent video - I may now actually and finally ! make this my default method. Very useful if you already have a number of pre-made complete leader rigs including the leader line, where there's no leader line spool to step on for tension. Just on a technical point re the half-hitches : It's considered by many to be better to make the two half-hitches in different directions.

@blobweird1234 жыл бұрын
Braid digs into the "outer layer" of the mono or fluoro. If you tried with mono to mono or to fluoro it wouldn't work because it doesn't dig like braid does.

is this knot better than a uni to uni? because i dont see how?
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing5 жыл бұрын
knownchild just slimmer and it tests a little stronger. That said I still use uni to uni. Especially at night.
@rider660r5 жыл бұрын
Yes it's better than a Uni to Uni,it's the best mono to braid knot you can tie. It works like Chinese finger cuffs or a cable becky for Fiber/Coax,the harder you pull the tighter it gets.Never had a FG Knot fail,unless it's tied wrong,your line will fail at the terminal tackle before it does at the FG.
@karlstokes8745 жыл бұрын
Its better purely imo because of its slim diameter. When using heavy shockleaders of say 50 lb test to 15 lb braid the double uni knot leaves you with a fat mono connection that you can hear rattling through the rings,which causes friction and therefore less distance on the cast. The fg knot is much more slimline and casts so much better. If you're not looking at hitting big distances then a double uni knot will be fine. The fg knot imo is more for gaining those extra yrds and also slightly improved knot strength Tight lines
@dirkvandermerwe60274 жыл бұрын
I know a similar one which is just as easy, but it's more of a loop than a knot but it's basically the same... Same principle... Instead of using the braid ( main line and tag end of the main line ) twisting over 'n above each other around the leader ( trace line ) - you basically use the same tactic as you'd use in or with the Alberto knot but instead of bending the leader ( trace line ) over the main line or stick the main line through the loop of the leader ( trace line ) - you twist the main line say like 10-15 twists down and the same or even less twists back up again around the leader line and use the same technique as you'd use in or with the FG to tie the main line around the leader, then pull hard to tighten the loops ( take nite: endure that pressure is applied when twisting the main line around the leader / trace line to endure that the main line hold a proper grip around the leader / trace line when or while pulling on both lines to tighten the knot ) then the last or final step is to hold both the main line and leader together with and between your index finger and thumb - against each other then make a loop with the main line tag end over the both ( main line n leader ) then take the main line tag end and twist it like say between 10-15 times around the both underneath, or through the loop then pull downwards towards the loops or twists to tighten the knot and then use your teeth to secure that last knot then as with the FG you pull very hard on both lines ( main line n leader / trace ) and to ensure that that last support knot doesn't losen you could perhaps use a lighter to burn it down carefully just before it gets to the knot itself then quickly roll-press it with your index finger and thumb, or, which works better - you could use like a tiny drop of super glue to secure that knot... But as with the FG it takes some practice hey... If you'd use a short leader / trace line which wouldn't pass through the guides of the rod - you could make a knot at the end of the leader's tag end and just cut the rest of the line off right behind the knot - it's to serve as extra security to avoid the knot from slipping off from the leader / trace line - basically it serves as a stopper and would actually support your knot to tighten even more as it'll press against the knot of the leader / trace line IF it perhaps would slip. .. I've used this technique quite often and never lost a fish up to date... But thanks for thus very informative tutorial I'll certainly action it... And I agree with the tutor - the thinner the line(s) the trickier it becomes... Practice makes perfect 👍 Regards. Dirk.
