Update on my ABS FGC-9 and how I successfully created my rifling mandrel. I had a lot of difficulty getting the mandrel printed and threaded with copper wire. Tips and modifications I made that helped me succeed.

Ive drilled out a 9mm barrel from round stock, and made my own 3-sided rifling buttons to hammer through the barrel. Then finished the job with a round file by hand. It was shitty by factory standards, but worked. Stabilized the bullet perfectly. It made a sort of polygonal style rifling instead of grooves. Much better

just found your channel. I want to try a fgc 9 myself do you have any recommendations on were to start? there's plenty of videos on the fgc9 but none that's for the dumb guy. great videos

Honestly, the best advice I can offer is don't be in a hurry. Be willing to fail several times. Learn from your mistakes and keep trying. Making the bolt and barrel are the most challenging parts but they can be purchased.

Is it possible to use one of these ECM Kits for a longer barrel? I mean a longer kit for a longer barrel.
@amphoravideo Жыл бұрын
It can absolutely be done but you might have to design a longer mandrel. Someone probably has designed one by now but it might take some searching

What type of pipe do they recommend you use? What inner an outer diameter?
@amphoravideo3 ай бұрын
It's a high strength hydraulic pipe. I think they call it "explosion proof" but I'm not sure that's a real term. maybe? I believe the inner diameter was 8mm. Not sure about the OD but I bet there aren't many options.

Do I really have to rifle the barrel? What if I don't?

I imagine it would work but wouldn't be nearly as accurate.

can I do it with a 30V 5 amp power supply?
@amphoravideo2 жыл бұрын
I suspect you could make it work. Lower current would impact the cutting times but…that’s not a big deal. You might need to put a resistor or a small light bulb in the circuit to bring down the current and keep from killing the power supply.

In case you care at the end of the video the ancient Greek saying is spelled wrong at the last letter. The correct way to write it is ''ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ'' with a capital ''E'' at the end instead of the Greek letter for ''s'' which is ''Σ''. I hope this comment is not treated like an annoying comment as I am not writing it out of the need to correct everybody else but I thought you may find it interesting. P.S. If you want to pronunciate it its ''mole - on (pause) love-E'' with the last capital ''E'' saying it like the first e of the word ''everybody''

What kind of camo filament is the FGC made of?
@amphoravideo3 жыл бұрын
It's actually just a dark gray ABS filament. I painted it with camo paint. Then lightly sanded, revealing the print lines.

@@amphoravideo What color/colors did you use?
@amphoravideo3 жыл бұрын
@@RW-of3pn I used Krylon Ultra Flat Camo spray paint. I don't know the specific color names but one is basically desert tan and another a dark forest green. A little black as well. The reddish areas are actually automotive bondo (which btw, is my favorite method of smoothing prints. It fills in the print lines and will sand glass smooth.)

Hello, I have the outer Ø16 tube and inner Ø8. But the mandrel is 9mm in diameter and does not fit through the Ø8mm tube, how do you do this process? Thank you
@amphoravideo2 жыл бұрын
You have to use a solid metal rod inside the pipe to evenly enlarge the pipe’s ID using the ECM process. When it’s large enough, the mandrel will fit. The process is covered in the FGC-9 instructions. They might be a bit hard to find but they’re out there.

Welding wire instead of copper? Interesting
@hanelyp13 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a workable option. The wire doesn't have to carry too much current. And the same current that's eroding the work piece is protecting the wire from corrosion.
@falcon57513 жыл бұрын
@@hanelyp1 it's not about its electrical potentional, more about the coating used on it. It has to be bare, coatings will prevent the chemical reaction from happening
@amphoravideo3 жыл бұрын
good point. I didn't think there was a non-conductive coating on the wire but lightly sanded it just to be sure. It worked well.

I used a Glock barrel as a stepping stone in my FGC-9 journey. From here on out, it's ECM all the way. The bragging rights that come with building a complete 100% DIY firearm (meaning zero commercially manufactured gun parts used) far outweigh the cost and time involved with ECM.
