Story 1: OP is *extremely* lucky - and dumping her is the minimum I would do. Suing her for slander is also up there. All it would take is one person's social media to be open and connected to someone else and suddenly he's arrested, jobless or worse. And not "throwing her friend under the bus"?! Great priorities there. Imagine they had kids and the friend did this saying he was a child abuser or paedophile. That shit ruins men's lives as soon as someone accuses them.

1000% These lies can have horrible repercussions! I've heard stories where a mother claimed the father was sexually abusing the children, not realizing that that her children would have to be checked out for the abuse even if she retracted the story. Thus traumatizing them for no reason.

I know that it’s easier said than done, but seriously, OP would be better off without her. His fiancé put him through all of that bullshit for some dumb prank. Even if it hadn't snowballed into... that, the first gf's plan was just terrible to begin with. Who plans a surprise party by making it seem like you're pissed at the person? Just say you're going to stay with a friend for a few days because they're feeling down, or you're having a sleepover, or literally any other reason.

This is why taking "Believe anyone" to the point of "Guilty until proven innocent" instead of "we must investigate any claim" is absolute bullshit. #FalseMeToos have been weaponized, used by women to get ahead in the workplace instead of putting in the overtime and extra effort to get ahead, and to cover up bad deeds like cheating, for far too long. Look at those college students that were destroyed because because a girl convinced them to Eiffel Tower her in the bathroom at a party then lied when a boy she liked and wanted to date showed up at the same party. Hell, look at the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard thing. She abused her lesbian lover before getting with Johnny Depp, abused him to the point that she cut off a fingertip of his on accident, then accused him of abusing her. And his career was destroyed over it.

Putting her on the spot in front of hundreds of people thinking she wont say no. That's trapping, holding her hostage with a marriage she didn't want. The grandma doing all this for the true bad egg, bad seed in the family is plain sad and pathetic. The brother is such a manchild, crying all the time to parents so he can have his way but once they stopped, he cries to grandma knowing she will always have his back on everything, even if he gets into legal trouble. I'm betting that if the brother shot n killed someone and he's arrested for murder, she'll spin some bullshet lie how it was op doings, it was pure self defense, or he didn't do it. The brother and grandmother needs a major reality wake up call. I'm glad OP, his wife, and the parents are doing better. I'm also glad the parents got their heads on straight and act together.

@@Icalasari We know what's going to happen as this same story has happened over and over again! Grandparent/parent picks the WRONG golden child, lives to regret it when their too old, fragile and now ISOLATED from defending the parasite that the parasite starts to exploit and abuse them, in the end their either ABANDONED completely to their horrible fate and abuse or saved by the scapegoat! My own grandmother rest her soul made this mistake with her eldest daughter, my aunt, favoring her while my mother was the scapegoat! Auntie didn't hesitated the moment she caught ole Al to take EVERYTHING from her and throw her into a shitty home till Ma got her out and called my aunt out on this behavior! Grandma ALWAYS supported Auntie for a century and this is how she was repaid, just the broken look on her face! Even with the Dementia she was aware of the betrayel and I think it effected her survival rate as even with ole Al, she was expected to make it another 20 years (she was 70) and a health complication did her in! My aunt then against her final wishes made a BIG show of her funeral to virtue signel how much she "loved her mother" and well, my aunt was like a second mother to me when I was young, but as I got older, her worse traits started to become more noticable! Grandma's final days, death and funeral completely broke the pedestal I had of her and I haven't talked to her since (it's been a decade since she died now, I just can't find it in my heart to forgive my aunt, but I think it's more then just grandma that broke the camels back for me with her!) But looking at his older brother behavior and manchild attidute, he won't hesitate to betray and exploit her if given the chance! Her "I don't understand" is her playing stupid cause OP is now to old for her to manhandle anymore. She likely talked bad about OP because she realized his success to the loser Elder Son she favored and tried to sabotage through lying, humilating herself in that Fiancee/Soon to be Wife didn't believe anything and chose not to tell him to keep the peace, now that he knows this, it cemented that the old crone can enjoy having a failure parasite finish her off and then scavage her remains like a Vulture when all is said and done, she's going to do mental olympics in her mind to push back her common sense on how her bad decisions landed her in caring for a loser who doesn't care, nor will ever care to help her out and exploit her! Hope she's proud of herself! Getting old is more about lucky then being wise sometimes! She was lucky to get old, no need to treat her with respect she hasn't earned

Yeah, gf in story 1 only has herself to blame. As a survivor, myself, of a decade long, abusive relationship, it pisses me off to no end when people throw around abuse accusations, regardless of the context, when they aren't true. Gf should have quashed any of the abuse claims, first and foremost, as soon as she became aware of them. Saying things like, "it just got too out of hand, too quickly" or "I didn't know how to stop it" are nothing more than excuses and blatantly show whose reputation gf cared most about (her's and not OP's). It doesn't really matter who made the first, false claim against OP, if his gf really cared, she'd have publicly renounced any abuse claims as soon as they became known to her. I can also understand OP's reluctance to end the relationship. As I said before, I stayed with my abuser for 10 years. Leaving was infinitely harder than staying, which makes absolutely no sense to the average person. It still doesn't even make sense to me and I cannot explain, to this day, why I stayed for as long as I did. I can only say that it finally clicked, after one particularly bad fight, that if I didn't leave on my own, two feet, my only way out would be in a body bag or on a stretcher and I didn't want to die. He'd thrown me around the room after I caught him in my bed with one of our neighbors, broke my hand and police, who were called by a concerned neighbor who heard my screams, threatened to take me to jail for "lying about this upstanding, working man," although my marks, scars, bruises and the broken hand were clearly visible. I realized then that even the police wouldn't care/help, so I only had myself to count on to survive and get out. It was the most scared, disheartened, but also freeing feeling I think I'd ever felt, but I made it. I'd love to say that it was all sunshine and rainbows after that, but that would be a blatant lie. It's been so incredibly hard and some days (or weeks), I don't even want to get out of bed as the trauma replays on a loop in my head, but I try to keep putting one foot in front of the other in those times, so I can skip, jump and dance at other times. When people like the gf allow a false narrative in regards to domestic violence, it makes it that much harder for those of us truly in these situations to come forward and be believed. It makes it easier for the abuser to get away with their violence. Gf deserves every hard look and side eye she gets for the part she played in this. Hopefully, she does better by the next man who comes along. OP doesn't deserve to deal with everything he'd have to put in to try to rebuild the trust his gf destroyed. Best OP found out the true character of gf before the marriage, bullet dodged.

I'll admit at first I assumed she was cheating and using the false allegations to make herself the victim. But I think the reality might be just as bad. She saw that his name was being dragged through the mud with abuse claims, and did absolutely nothing to clear his name, just to save a surprise party. So she didn't want to throw her friend under the bus, but had no problem driving the bus over him and backing up to finish the job. I think that kind of says where OP actually stands. Not sure this is savable, as OP even said, does he want to waste years deciding if she can be trusted? I don't like how OP in this story makes the assumption that just because police weren't called, that they don't have a online presence, either. Police are actually incredibly active on social media and do have their police organisations on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok... to name a few. If somebody concerned about OP's fiancee felt like she was in danger and couldn't reach out to police out of fear of being put in a dangerous situation, they could have linked to local police and they would have responded. Many lives are saved by police who are alerted on these platforms that somebody's in danger and can't leave a situation. Whether because they have no access to a phone, can't get their neighbours or friends to help them, etc. If an abuse victim can get access to a computer, all they need to do is send a message to their local police via Facebook messenger. Police are always active on SM just in case they are needed for any emergency where a victim can't speak or get help. To my knowledge, you have to directly send them a message as this happened to a woman that one of my classmates knows where she was held hostage by an abusive ex partner and needed help- but if you link directly to the police and they feel that there needs to be action, they will respond appropriately.

Yeah what I got from that story was that the grandma has used the golden child tactic on the mom and her siblings maybe so she's just as much a victim as OP I think. And grandma then somehow convinced mom and dad to take part in her games aswell. And it wasn't until now that the mom (and dad) realized the error of being a part of such a dynamic. That whole family seems to be victims of grandma and generational trauma that keeps repeating because they couldn't break free sooner, it had become too normalized to them over so many years. So it's actually amazing that OP by a miracle managed to open his parents eyes up to make them realize how fucked up all of it has been, and them owning up to their part in it aswell. Very unheard of. I thought for sure that the parents would double down like grandma because admitting to basically abusing one of their sons is not easy. But it seems they are not a lost cause and not totaly psycho like grandma is. Her lack of empathy means she will never admit to fault cuz in her mind she has no faults.

I recently learned that sometimes when we exhibit symptoms of a personality disorder (in this story the parent’s narcissism) we may be mimicking them; having learned these behaviors from a guardian with said personality disorder (grandma is narcissistic, her daughter mimics narcissistic behaviors believing them to be normal because she was raised this way) All I can think here is maybe that’s what’s happened with the parents? And upon being able to self-reflect and realize how absolutely messed up their actions were are able to change so quickly. Either way It’s all together a bit tragic; the other brothers behavior and life was probably really messed up and altered by the influence of his grandmother - not an excuse for his inability to recognize his painful actions currently, but can’t help but wonder how different he might’ve been

If any future job looks into his social media history and find this, they will not hire him. These are life and career ending allegations. If major media picked the shitstorm up, he would've been absolutely ruined no matter how much everyone involved tried to clarify. We went our separate ways but she was always going to come back (holidays), she also knew that if she wanted to end it she only had to say goodbye and all would be sweet. When I tried to contact her she would hang up (no words). The third time I called a guy answered and said he would get me for what I did to her (physical violence) I told him that’s what she will tell her next boyfriend about him. I contacted the guy she had been with before me, he said that was the same story she had told him at the start of their relationship. ALL SHE HAD TO DO WAS SAY GOODBYE.
