In this 164th Video from Classic Car ChitChat, you will see a beautiful 1979 Fiat X1/9 Bertone. If you found this KZbin Channel you are certainly a fan of Classic Cars, Classic Car Studios, Classic Car Rescue, Classic Car Shows, Classic Car Auctions, Classic Car Restorations you will love this video!
In today’s video from Classic Car ChitChat you will see the Fiat X1/9 Bertone. No matter which car you are fan of Fiat 128, the Fiat 600, The Fiat designer Nuccio Bertoni, Fiat Spider, or Italian cars you will certainly love this video.
The Fiat X1/9 is an Italian two-seater mid-engined sports car designed by Bertone and manufactured by Fiat from 1972-1982 and subsequently by Gruppo Bertone from 1982-1989. With a transverse engine and gearbox in a mid-mounted, rear-wheel drive configuration, the X1/9 was noted for its balanced handling, retractable headlights, lightweight removable hardtop which could be stowed under the bonnet, front and rear storage compartments - and for being the first Fiat to have been designed from its conception to meet US safety regulations. The Fiat X1/9 made its debut in 1972 as a replacement for the rear-engine Fiat 850 Spider and was one of the first truly affordable mid-engine sports cars, following the more expensive Porsche 914's 1970 launch. The X1/9 landed on U.S. shores for the 1974 model year using slightly evolved versions of the Fiat 128's MacPherson strut suspension and 67-horsepower 1.3-liter SOHC inline four-cylinder engine, engineered by Aurelio Lampredi. The X1/9 featured wedge-like styling from Lamborghini Miura designer Marcello Gandini at Bertone, and had four-wheel disc brakes, a four-speed manual transmission, and two trunks, one in the rear and one in the front. The latter trunk was large enough to carry a weekend's worth of luggage or the X1/9's removable Targa-style roof panel. These 1974 models featured some unique styling touches compared to later 1.3-liter versions, including smaller bumpers front and rear.

In case you are keeping Track this is Video # 164 of Classic Car ChitChat Videos!
I hope my Classic Car ChitChat videos make you smile. I do them in my spare time because I truly love cars and my intentions are simply to honour the beautiful cars I get to see and to really understand the passion and love of the vehicle by the driver (or caretaker as Jay Leno would say) of the car. I also understand too that my videos perhaps lack the polish calibre of great KZbinrs like: Doug DeMuro, Scotty Kilmer, and of course my favourite Supercar Blondie. I also know that I can’t even come close the quality & finish you get from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and the boys at Top Gear. I think they use a little fancier equipment than my little iPhone… LOL
Mission Statement:
My Objective through creating these videos is to shine the spotlight on people who love their vehicles whether it be a car, motorcycle, or even a bicycle…. Bottom line is if it has wheels and you love it then let’s show that passion to the world!
Equipment Used:
Camera
Just an iPhone 14 Pro Max (Nothing fancy - which proves anyone can use whatever you have handy to make a video… you don’t need really expensive equipment)
I also use Insta 360X2 which is perhaps one of the best investments I have made and allows me to capture some really cool 360-degree views and also creates a “drone like” effect with the invisible selfie stick attachment.
Gimbal - DJI OM4 - For that ultra-smooth cinematic look. (To be honest... still not quite sure how to use it but one day I will figure it out!)
Audio - Rode Wireless GO II (I gotta be honest… this is really the biggest investment that was made… I wish there was a cheaper option but after the first couple of videos I soon realized that audio quality is important and hopefully better than the onboard mic on the iPhone!

If you have read this far, then I thank you. As always, I truly appreciate your “thumbs-up”, and by leaving your comments it demonstrates to me that I managed to get you involved and hopefully made you smile. Most importantly when you subscribe to my channel then you are truly acknowledging my effort to help share with others like you my passion and love for “all things that have wheels” and honouring the people who take care of them.
Thank You
Kevin

OMG, when I was studying politics at Edinburgh University my roommate had the same Fiat and we drove around Scotland in it and it was a blast. Even in snow this little Fiat was so good.

I bought a new Gran Finale Bertone X1/9 in UK back in 1989 and put 120k miles on it including trips to the Alps and Mediterranean. It never let me down. Now I have a Porsche Boxster 3.2S but the little Fiat still lives in my garage.

My first new car was a 1982 X1/9. Brown with a tan stripe on the sides. It was really fun to drive and was my daily driver for four years. Interestingly it was really good handling in the snow. At work I had a co-worker who was a 'hater' so he bought a Pontiac Fiero; That was a cheap(er) imitation of the X1/9 but side by side it was clear that the Fiat/Bertone was the more stylish car. I miss that car; Probably more because it is a memory of a more carefree time; Right out of university with no commitments I could go somewhere on a six hour drive just for the fun of it.

Tishers.. I couldn’t agree more. The X1/9 was one of a kind and such a great driving car. The engine sound alone is only something that Fiat could create. All Fiat's in my view had one of the best engines around. The little engines were designed to put up will all kinds of conditions including inferior gas. This is another example and wonderful video again.

I love the X1/9 since I was a little child. At the age of about 20 one was offered to me but I wasn't able to store the car. Then time went by. In the 2000th I again thought about getting one but I'm not able to repair it on my own so I dismissed this idea. Instead of this I got a VX220 which I still own. It's some kind of X1/9 just less practical... :D Looking at this thing I have to say: "What a wonderful device!" - I'm so jealous of the owner.

Had 5 of these, from a 1974 to a 1984 Bertone. Fuel injected 1980 was my favorite. 150 hp sounds like a reach. Maybe 100 hp. Abarth had an expensive 4 valve/cylinder aftermarket head that was rare but it’s not on this car.

A wonderful sounding engine, well driven by Francesco! These Fiat engines love to be driven hard - the harder the better! How did Francesco manage to get it up to 150BHP? The original only had a little over half of that?

Luckiest man alive (love the name). I agree the Fiat was an exemplary car and a beautiful engine design and was meant to be driven. I agree 150 may have been a stretch.. and in our drag race (that sadly did not record) the Fiat did beat my MG off the start but over a quarter mile.. wouldn’t be my much.
