Love this video. Would love for a technical foul one though.

I plan to have ball returned to the backcourt then technical fouls lined up in my FIBA Rules Explained. Just harder to do when I am a teacher during the school year, things slow down :) I also have another interview and potentially another video in the works planned.

Hello, any opinion on the UF called at eurobasket ?? - France / Turkey : UF called on TMC - Spain / Lithuania : UF called on Brazdeikis There seems to be some inconsistency and at the end of day, is it still allowed to make tactical fouls to stop the clock ?

You can make tactical fouls to stop the clock but the criteria is to play the ball. It's purpose is to eliminate wrapping up the player or fouling off ball to get a certain player to the free throw line. Sadly, I do not know how the officials called it since I do not have video, but UF's are to clean up the game and unfair advantages gained by the defense.

@@refereeuniversity Many thanks. Hard to decide on both case, but I think they both "gently" wrap the ball handler. Before, the ref understood the intention was to stop the clock and whistled normal foul. It was preferred to have an immediate gentle foul, than a hard foul "playing the ball" few seconds after. The UF was reserved for violent or off ball fouls. In both case, calling UF kills the game, and in the future tactical fouls will become much harder to get

As you have mentioned in the video. There is one situation that could happen and should be understand as a UF, but it's not specifically and clearly mentioned in any of the UF category. When it's last 2mins in last quarter, ball has been inbound but in order to stop the clock, they didn't foul the ballhandler instead the foul on the worst shooter on the court. let's just say it's all base on the ref's judgement to decide if the foul is on purpose or not. There's no doubt if he did that on purpose, it's C1-UF. The question is if he's not on purpose of doing it and ref decided to give him a normal foul and the shooter missed all the shots and ended up their team lose the game. I've seen some refs taking some actions to prevent this potential difficulty from happening. They talk to the players on the court " foul on the ballhandler only, otherwise it's a UF no matter it's on purpose or not". C1 Would that be fair? What's your thoughts and how do we tackle things like this?

You are completely right! That would fall under category one: Not a legitimate attempt to attempt to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules. Regardless of the time in the game, fouling off ball on purpose would be a UF but like you said, it is the referee's judgement to understand if defense is trying to foul the worse shooter or they bumped a cutter in the lane and should be a common foul.

Thanks for this video. Bit of a noob to basketball. I just watched an old game between Galatasaray and Bakken Bears. Gala had committed one team foul. Then one of their players committed an unsportsmanlike foul and Gala's team fouls jumped from 1 to 3. Why is that? Why didnt it go from 1 to 2? Thanks

Should only go 1 to 2, Ufouls have a different penalty but should not change the amount of fouls that go on team fouls numbers.

Kinda late but is the shooter’s landing space foul a thing in FIBA?

Yes, must allow a shooter to land in a space they are entitled to

@@refereeuniversity Ah alright thank you, add on question, if the defender is considered to have done a reckless close out, will it be a unsportsmanlike foul like how the NBA gives flagrant fouls?

Very possible to be given that if the contact meets the criteria
