Outstanding analysis by Magnus Carlsen. His honest and harsh analysis of his own play is unique and a blessing to all of us. We are very fortunate to have been apart of this as it will be historic one day.

Is it unique? I feel like all of the top guys are super critical of themselves. Kramnick is unique in that he thinks he’s winning all of the time. But he’s retired. So literally every single top player is identical to Magnus in their self criticism. Dumb comment.

Nijat was very resourceful. Unfortunately, one inaccuracy or blunder against #1 isn’t easy to convert to a draw. Although chances are slim tomorrow as he has to win, I would like the match to go to tiebreaks. Magnus is still a clear favorite no doubt about it.

Always like Magnus for his straightforward attitude. He’s not brash or arrogant like other former world champions & number 1 (who will not be named) but just being candid, honest & real. When he doesn’t see a continuation he says so, & when he finds the weaknesses in his play he admonishes himself. This is how he remains at the top. Demanding nothing less of himself or his opponents.

No. Grandmasters study chess away from games with an engine all the time. They were only a few moves into the opening at that point, they would for sure have many many more moves analysed by the engine and lines memorized. I'm not even 1700 and I have the engine moves for easily the first 10-15 moves of many lines in my most common openings I play memorized (ie much further than that). Magnus is known for a prodigious memory. He knows 10s of thousands of games.

I am happy to see Magnus succeed in this tournament. He seems a bit tired of classical chess but hopefully a #1 spot would encourage him to keep playing classical. It’s too early for him to fully retire from classical imho.
