FIELD TRIP WITH PATRICK BLANC IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA - SEPIK LOWLAND RAINFOREST

The Botanist Patrick Blanc, inventor of the Vertical Garden (Mur Végétal) takes you to a Field Trip in Papua New Guinea, in the lowlands of the Sepik region exhibiting a high plant species diversity, both along the rivers and in the hill forests. We also approach the forests of the Madang region and the Varirata National Park. Papuan people, native plants and animals live in harmony in these still well preserved forests.

Merci et c'est vrai que lorsqu'on est allé en Nouvelle Guinée, on n'a qu'une envie, c'est d'y retourner. La première fois, c'était pour un tournage d'Ushuaia avec Nicolas Hulot, du côté indonésien. En ce moment, Pascal travaille sur les images de Nouvelle Calédonie où nous étions en août dernier.

Of course, we did show only about 100 species while there are more than 13 500 in New Guinea ! The most important is to show the diversity of plant adaptations in all types of environments as well as their beauty and harmony.

Merci beaucoup pour cette chaîne. C'est la seule chaîne KZbin que j'ai trouvée sur ce sujet. Personne ne fait de vidéos aussi informatives, c'est exactement ce que je voulais voir. Les informations ici sont inestimables sur la nature. Je voudrais dire, peut-être que vous devez utiliser une meilleure caméra vidéo avec 4k. Je regarde sur un grand téléviseur pour avoir une meilleure vue de vos recherches. J'aimerais pouvoir faire la même chose que toi. Votre grande cause doit avoir des partisans et des successeurs.

Bien sûr, Pascal a mis une correction couleur sur l'introduction ainsi qu'un détourage noir de l'image afin de donner cette impression de temps plus anciens, quand les forêts et leurs peuples étaient encore intacts... @@simongordeziani3791

Merci et c'est vrai que c'est en forêt que l'on se sent vraiment bien. Beaucoup de beaux voyages en cette année 2023 : Sud de l'Inde, Nouvelle Calédonie, Malaisie péninsulaire, Nord Thaïlande superbe en fin de saison des pluies et même des plantes étonnantes dans les restes de forêt quasi primaire à Singapour où nous sommes souvent allés depuis 4 ans pour le projet de rénovation "verte" du Terminal 2 de l'aéroport, inauguré début novembre. Prochain voyage en forêt tropical bientôt mais on ne sait pas encore où ...

Freycinetia elegantula is the smallest of the genus. It is cultivated in some botanical gardens and is quite easy to grow in humid atmosphere. It is quite incredible that it can retain its living leaves for more than 10 m which means many years of life for the lowest leaves !

We know that with more than 13 500 plant species, New Guinea is the richest island of the world. Of course, many Orchid species and you'll see some of them in our film on the Highlands but we preferred to focus on much more neglected plant groups such as the incredibly beautiful epiphytic Riedelia in the Zingiberaceae as well as understory plants or to show the natural habitat of so well known species in glasshouses all over the world like Mucuna bennettii and also to focus on other strange plants like the smallest known species of the genus Freycinetia, F. elegantula or the poorly known Antiaropsis decipiens. So many people love Orchids and this is why some species have been over collected...

Yes, I love Araceae since I studied their growth habits and ramification patterns for my first thesis in Paris university. Now, I am completing an article on a new Cercestis species that I discovered many years ago in Cameroon.
