To be fair, a witness on cross examination is a hostile witness. Nor do you answer with any additional information than what is asked for. That is why the defense has to peel back the information the witnesses don't provide. This also allows for the witnesses to trip over themselves or testimony by other witnesses.

I like how the defense got him to say he's not sure if the Canton PD was the scene of a crime. That leaves open the door that Proctor committed obstruction of justice by removing taillight pieces to take back to the crime scene, which also would violate Karen Read's civil liberties. The reason for not having a speaking objection is it’s literally the opposite of what you said since they may include prejudicial comments. They are all professional lawyers (allegedly) and judges. The basis for objections is implied and if not she asks them to sidebar. It might just be the least asinine thing I’ve seen from her.
