@davekennedy63154 жыл бұрын
Driving a convertible is far more dangerous in any crash. Convertibles might be considerably safer nowadays but removing a big part of what protects in a crash is never going to be a good idea (especially if you roll the car!) The best idea if you want to be safe in a car crash is to not drive a convertible.

Now that's believing in the product you sell. Also, job extremely well done by the science and engineering team that designed the lamp post.
@gabiold4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if he is a distributor or a director of the company manufacturing the said posts, but doesn't matter that much. Being a good leader of a company is as important for the success as having good engineers, developers, workers, administrators, supply chain managers and whatever everything which is required in a manufacturing. Engineers and developers are often very good at designing a part of a product but maybe not a whole product, and probably very bad at selling it. Totally different personality required for the designing and marketing! Any department fails in a company, it will sabotage the success. Beeing a good leader not necessarily means you have to be able to source, manufacture, market and sell the whole product yourself all alone (but definitely better if you know as many aspects as you can). The key is to know what kind of employees you need, gather those people, then know their strengths, and trust that they know what they are doing and organize them to work together.

@davekennedy63154 жыл бұрын
A biker died in my hometown hitting a lamppost at around 30mph (he was overtaking a slow car not realising that the car in front was letting another car out a side street, he swerved, coming off the motorbike straight into a lamppost) So many UK roadside signs, lampposts, crash barriers etc are made far too strong and result in pointless fatalities that the whole issue needs looking into (and as soon as possible as this is costing lives!)

In 1981 my uncle Tony was front seat passenger in a Morris Oxford, on his way to a gig, when it hit a reinforced concrete lamppost from the 1930’s, the type that was used to carry tram wires and had a huge cast iron arm to hold the lamp, another words it was hugely over engineered and strong enough to be used as a major support column in high rise buildings, with a configuration of eight 10mm rebar set in concrete with a 2”hollow centre, (no access panel) . The car split in two at the B pillar killing all three occupants instantly, the engine was hurled 60 ft from the lamppost and the destruction was so bad the police it first couldn’t determine the direction of the car was travelling, and of course the lamppost was still standing with hardly had a scratch, Thankfully they’ve now been replaced with standard steel ones but those new flexible ones as shown here are absolute genius and would save dozens of lives each year in the UK

Where I live in the republic of Ireland, in the town of Tralee there are military surplus ships gun barrels used as lamp and power posts in some parts of the town. They were purchased by the state after the war and have very thick walls that wood have been shot proofed. I know a family here who's son was unfortunate to hit one of these broad side and was killed instantly. They are easy it identify as the post / barrel is formed from necked stages just like you would see on a WW2 battleship. Even after the aforementioned death of a young man, the council still did nothing regarding its replacement for something safer 😱
