No replacement for displacement. For those below, yes you might get that power out of a smaller engine, but the smaller you go the more it costs. Not to mention you won't get the torque you would in a Big Block American Motor.

Why all the hate for the Chevy engine? When it comes to aerodynamics, electronics, brake systems, down-force, traction control, handling, and overall quality in both materials and craftsmanship, euro cars are the way to go. But in the end, for raw horsepower the Americans make the most powerful and aggressive engines. I don't see why it's such a fuss to combine the best of both worlds, it certainly gets the job done.

I think the most like me hoped to See an extremly tuned Audi 5cyl. And yes for raw Power USEngines are the Best . I thimk Europeans are to good for this Kind of Engineering. Europeans construct perfect efficient engines so that they get almost 400hp out of 2L. Americans are quite primitive the need about 6L. But if you make this big American engines perfect they are the Best because they are that big that they only can be strong
@bjoe385
@bjoe385 4 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what sort of power you’re looking for, euro engines can make big power. But US engines can make big power cheaply.
@manuelsilva3365
@manuelsilva3365 2 жыл бұрын
@@ninoschier9528 Sorry that I'm like responding 6 years later but yeah, Euro engines are made to be small(in displacement) and efficient but that comes at a price which is reliability. You see, when you use forced induction to get any meaningful hp out of a small engine, that engine may get respectful hp but it's gonna be pushed to it's limit and revving the engine over 8,000 to reach peak hp and torque certainly isn't helping either. Speaking of torque, pretty much most, if not all, euro engines are DOHC which gives it better hp per liter but at the cost of low end torque, simplicity, size, and weight. Now as for most American engines found in muscle cars and trucks (with the exception of ford), they use pushrod engines which are different from DOHC engines since they don't make more hp per liter because of less vales per cylinder among other stuff but they make up for it with amazing low end torque which is what gets your car moving off the line fast forcefully. To make up for the less breathing room, manufacturers increase the displacement which naturally increases torque which also increases hp. Now the pros of having this type of engine is it's more reliable, can handle the increased power from forced induction due to having peak power at low rpm (usually between 1500 and 4000) and higher displacement, it's physically smaller despite having higher displacement, it's lighter as well (look up the engine weight of any modern muscle car or pickup truck and compare it to any "small" 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder engines from Europe), and the engine isn't ever intensely stressed to make hp and torque. So both DOHC and pushrod engines each have their uses; DOHC engines are great for actual racing on a track where torque isn't really required and pushrod engines are great for towing applications where having hp and torque early at the rev range can really make your vehicle last hundreds of thousands of miles(or km) and drag racing where having low down power and enormous untapped power can make drag cars the fastest cars on the planet as shown on this video here. Though to be fair to Europeans, these drag cars would PROBABLY be tied with a Bugatti in a drag race on a NORMAL street since drag cars, muscle cars, etc. aren't known for having traction and most Euro cars have amazing traction with clever engineering. Sorry for making this extremely long but I wanted to give a proper explanation for both types of engines and give it's pros and cons for both.

All you fools pointing out "the Veyron is faster", it's about the 1/4 mile trap speed, not the top speed. It's relating the quickest (time) and fastest (mph) in a 1/4 mile. And even if it were based on fastest top speed, a Veyron is not the fastest street legal car (not is the SS). There are street legal cars that hit 240+ mph in a quarter mile and have 3 times the power. If you don't think they can go faster than a Buggati, you're either ignorant or a fanboy.

Isn't drag racing one event in which thin, worn out, tires may actually make your time quicker?
@Scootermagoo
@Scootermagoo 8 жыл бұрын
+keensweep Yes and no.. Drag race cars race on "slicks" tires without tread.. But street tires without a lot of tread can be either slippery or high traction depending on the compound of the tire and the type of surface you are on. Concrete with rubber and "bald" tires is high traction, bald tires on hot asphalt tends to be low traction because the surface has oils on it from the surface itself.

Lt. Roast-a-hoe maybe but you'll be fucked if you have to turn a corner in one of them at any speed . That Audi's biggest mistake is the V8 engine in the front should of kept the 2.2 L 20 valve 5 cylinder turbo that came with it standard and just tuned that bad boy up not saying it would be faster but it would sound a lot fucking better

... So when was this filmed? Because I saw a clip about a month ago, with an Australian VL C'Dore, 3.0 litre, (about '86 ~ '88) that was running 7.2s on street radials. They're all very quick, but Red Victor and this thing and quite a few drag cars in the states, they're an awful long way from being normal road cars. Like the old group B rally cars, they're a fibreglass replica of a production car, wrapped around an exotic racing machine. The VL I mention, different animal entirely. Original body, in steel, original engine, (rather hotted of course), original suspension layout and design... and it regularly runs mid to low 7s. ... Is it street legal? er ... Good question. It has lights and mirrors and stuff, and they drive it to and from the track. Whether it would pass a hostile dept transport inspection, I'm not so sure. Equally, it has a roll bar, but not a full cage. And it doesn't seem to have a parachute. ... It's not a drag car, because there are a number of fundamental rules in drag racing it doesn't comply with. And it does still have a full steel monocoque chassis / body from the factory, factory glass and doors and ...

+NegativeNumbers427 Ok... There's some contest in the 'states, where they drive from track to track and pull a small trailer. The cars are legal, or at least they should be. But they're like funny cars... They're a lightweight 'glass body that flips up as one piece...

Kneedragon1962 Dragweek. Good watch. Starts again in October. Point is. At the time of recording, this car was one of the quickest, along with Red Victor. Both had Steel bodies. But this was all a few years ago. Things have become way more competitive over the years, so naturally people would use lighter parts, etc. Plus there's the ease of use with fibreglass: taking the panels off for maintenence, or making replacement panels instead of having to find another panel, cut it, weld it, and all that crap.

To be honest, I do not get why he used a Audi as base... if you are going to build a mean FR machine, why start with a FWD??? Of course, giving the fact that he wasn't going to leave much of the original car, probably it is just because he liked the style.

Audi GT? They made a Quattro version of it? The Über Audi Quattro was the "Quattro" version of the first model GT... I thought they kept the naming scheme. However, the original Audi architecture is about as crappy as you can go, to build a RWD (famously, the AWD Audis are any bit as understeering as the FWD base models, which limited the initial results of the aforementioned Über Quattro, till someone figured to enter turns almost purely by handbrake)... Then again, of that (starting with the overboard frontal motor), this car has nothing.

What is "fastest" ? Is it top speed, accelleration and over what distance? (Title doesent really tell). In Norway there is a street legal car that got 407km/h (1407hp), the car in this video made a bit over 300km/h.

Yeah, strictly speaking it should be "quickest" since they're talking about quarter mile times, "fast" is a measure of speed and there are definitely faster street legal cars, but "quick" is a measure of time, you wouldn't get a "fast time" at a drag strip, it should be a quick time.

.........y are we talking about corners for a drag car? If he wanted a car that could turn he would've built one. That's like saying u wanna work out your stomach to get a 6pack an do nothing but push ups. Buggati lap time track records ain't all that impressive either, about two secs faster than a 2017 civic type R. I swear people love to hate an complain about nothing instead of saying nice job, crazy car. As far as engines are concerned, I'm sure Audi cost way more an he chose the v8 to keep the cost an simplicity down, props to this man's effort.
