@mindsoulpower5 ай бұрын
isnt it crazy that a 15 year old needs a therapist?
@nataliemarshall71584 ай бұрын
@@mindsoulpower NO!!! No it isn’t crazy!! Especially in this day and age. With phones making it easy to have all sorts of things constantly in our faces, good or bad, the pressure to look or act a certain way or you’ll be be bullied or cancelled etc etc and they are just one thing amoung many that impact our lives and our brains. Life can be difficult to navigate at any age but what a blessing it is that this person is getting access to learn how to understand and to navigate their thoughts and feelings and how they relate to navigating her way through their life! How awesome it is to think about what a calm, rational and mature adult they will end up being. From benefiting from the knowledge and wisdom of a kind and caring person aka a therapist! Getting therapy does not mean you are mentally broken in some way!!! It means having the sense and maturity to realise that having someone that has a bit of a *guide to how the brain works is going to be helpful to you in sorting through what your own brain is doing and is capable of doing. *I say a “bit of a guide” because the brain is still largely an unknown entity. Leaps and bounds have been made in understanding brain function and activity but there is still so much not known. The world would be a much better place if less people had negative thoughts about seeing a therapist and then in turn did so! These days even hindsight is not 20\20 and even if it was why wait until it’s too late to understand something or do something different that will benefit you and enrich your life??

When I made a list of my top ten values, I realized one of them includes all the others and is my core value. My top ten looks like this: Kindness LISTENING Relationships Learning Wellness Love Contentment Present Peace Health I put "Listening" in caps because I realized that one is at the core of all the others. Here's why: Listening means being kind with the other, valuing your relationship with them, giving expression to your love for them. It means being content with what is, it means being at peace with the present. For me to be able to really listen, I need to be well, I need to look after my health as much as I can. Truly listening always helps me learn about the other and about the world. Listening encompasses all my other values. It is my core value :)

Hi, thank you so much for this video! I have a really gray insight to share with you. It is quite personal but a really important life lesson that relates to what you talk about. I started a relationship with a person and was very focused and anxious around getting married because that was something my parents were pushing for. I was so goal oriented for marriage, but because I started to get very anxious and that led to depression. And then, my engagement broke because of that. So yeah, the moral of the story is have a values based life and that will reduce stress and anxiety and depression significantly because when you focus on your values you will always find things to look forward to and cherish. I really liked and cherished my relationship and I’m still broken hearted about it, but this was the consequence of rushing and then developing a lot of anxiety over the decision when not really being ready for it or completely sure. And as the saying is there, haste make waste. And I’m still very sad about it.

I keep thinking about this video... It's a grower :) The idea that our values should be our focus rather than our fears and base instincts, but also rather than our goals, is a really helpful one. I made a long list of all the things that I feel make life worthwhile... I have also thought about attributes I'd like to cultivate and the actions I can take that express those more fully (at the moment, I'm just trying to do a few things that scare me). Taking note of those things has made it easier to both plan my time and appreciate the good things as they come to me. I think it's so easy to either be trapped in a reactive way of thinking - scared, angry, stressed, trying to bottle everything up and just survive - or else focusing on THE GOAL and ignoring all the nice things on the way. But we only get one shot at our own life, and living for our values is the way to be true to ourselves even when things aren't going our way. I'm pursuing a career goal at the moment and at times I get frightened about the risk that it entails. But thinking about my values really helps. I value being brave. I value the career I am pursuing. I value giving my dreams a shot even if I know that there are sometimes things that get in the way. I value the sense of adventure that I feel when thinking about this uncertain future ahead of me. It doesn't feel entirely safe but right now, I have other, more important values than just being safe.

Hi Emma. I'm an atheist and secular humanist who watches and enjoys your videos. You've given me a number of good tips and I often find myself jotting something down on the pad I keep near my TV when I watch you. I just wanted to express my appreciation for you _not_ relying on religion or faith in your therapy. I get that it's important and beneficial to _you,_ and I occasionally hear you make a brief reference to it, but if it were a substantial part of your videos they wouldn't be for me. I consider myself an _agnostic_ atheist, by the way. That is, I have no belief in any gods (of the hundreds if not thousands humans have imagined), but I don't claim to _know_ that none exist. As with most things in life I'm skeptical yet open-minded. (I wish many more people were both, as I believe the world would be more harmonious.) As a staunch science supporter I respect that you seem evidence-based in your therapy, and I appreciate the articulate, easily-digestible way you present the information. 🙂

From personal experience, moral values like selflessness, sacrificing, unconditional love, kindness and being a giver , etc qualities are very beautiful but can turn out to be useless in the end. Try choosing practical qualities like hard work and organized planning to achieve worldly success so you have a life less troublesome and more bearable. And let the prior qualities be in just limited amount for selective areas. Or else you will suffer unnecessarily and in my experience, it's best to help yourself first to help others later

Wish I would have had this kind of therapy when I was a teen. They just threw me on meds and I never learned coping skills.. just drugs.

Thank you for this video. I just did the exercise where I picked my 10 (okay, maybe 13... with 6 big secondary options) most important core values. I discovered that optimism/encouragement may be the value I have most trouble living up to. I'm good at some of my other values like responsibility, dependability, and security. But some of my tendencies and thought patterns that make me good at those things can also make me seem like a Debbie Downer. I beat myself up a lot when I act too realistic (read: negative) while I should be having fun with my friends and family. So, if I feel so badly about that, then maybe it means encouragement is a core value that I truly want to convey but struggle to do so. I'll have to think more about working on that.

This is amazing content. I listen to it, questions pop up, and it's like telepathy as you answer them exactly seconds later and it keeps going like that. This is a very refreshsing view how to look at values and work with them. Thanks for your time. Keep going 🙂

What a wonderful video! I finally clarified that I value person growth than being funny! As my parents always compare me to my sister, I always feel that I am not good enough. She is more funnier! Being funny is not as important than being keep on persuading my personal growth. All of sudden I feel like have more power to act on! Need to write it down what I value for. -:)

Hey your message opened my eyes! I too compare myself with my brother and believe that he's superior to me coz my parents admire him more than me. The way they treat him makes me feel that he's special and i am weak compared to him. So I try to please my parents which is nearly impossible and dealing with intense shame from my people pleasing and their rejection. From your comment i realized that what I value is more important than what my parents value. Thank you!

I feel you! I am kinda a quiet introvert and I always felt not good enough compared to the fun, exciting extroverts out there...but I'm coming to see my own special gifts and what I have to offer the world.

@@luckycharm1212 Reduce negative thoughts to have a healthier life with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, eyes closed, be as still as possible and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep inhalation-exhalation needed. Anytime of the day or night before sleep sit or lie down on your back and observe your breath. Stillness brings internal peace. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.
