When I am in the pit of depression/despair I have to be very gentle with myself. I set myself five small goals for the day, like (1) shower (2) get dressed (3) eat breakfast (4) put a load of dishes in the dishwasher (5) unload the dishwasher. I actually write out my goals for the day, and give myself a sticker for each goal I accomplish. I reward myself with things like a cup of my favourite tea, watching some Netflix, or if I can focus enough, read a book.

@@curvyblue2843 How are you? Any stress? To feel better reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. When taking a walk, at office, in school, when reading, before sleep etc observe your breath sensations. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Making you bed is VERY essential part of putting a good rhythm to start the day..don't minimize it.😁 I saw this quote a while back on Facebook by Admiral McRaven at a graduation ceremony "If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed. If you strart off by making your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another."
@mchobbit2951
@mchobbit2951 4 жыл бұрын
I don't make my bed when I go to work so I certainly won't now. Never saw the point. Unlike other chores, there is NO hygiene related reason to do it. If you want to stay in that room and looking at a pretty bed makes you happy, do it. But it never did anything for me. When I used to do it, I'd hold back when sleeping so I wouldn't mess the bed up so much since I had to "make" it again in the morning. It didn't feel like an accomplishment, it felt like an annoying, pointless bother that did NOT encourage me to do more chores. I can start off the day with something else to feel "accomplished". I get up and brush my hair and teeth, then make my to do lists for my French and Russian study and chores at home for that day, then read a while as I always loved and looked forward to reading. It helps, but towards the evening, when I'd usually be social(or at least have the chance to be) and most of the tasks are done, I do start to feel down--some days moreso, others less. I do not have a TV and try to stay away from Corona news, but sometimes it still just gets to you.

Recap: 1) Intentional morning routine. Choose the tone for your day. 2) Choose when to watch the news 3) Honor your body’s need for sleep. Most adults need 7-9 hours. 4) Get showered and dressed. Even if you have no place to go, you’ll feel put together 5) Take care of your nutrition needs 6) Exercise. Even 5 minutes can make a difference 7) Get outside. Spend some time in nature 8) Make relaxation a priority. You’ll get more done if you take time to rejuvenate 9) Journal. Remember your wins and accomplishments 10) Gratitude practice 11) Limit screens before bed. Tv isn’t great for your brain because it doesn’t turn off the stress response 12) Schedule in time for self care 13) Take the sabbath off 14) Make time for meaningful social interaction

Last December a friend and I were discussing how little we get done. As I thought about it, I listed things that we do every day like preparing meals, vacuuming, making beds and then I made a checklist. It had about 20 items on it. This checklist is not for a prompt to do things, but a reminder of what we have been doing. It makes a total difference in mindset. Now, we look at our list at the end of the day/week/month and see what we HAVE accomplished. It makes us see that we are not useless or lazy.

It seems like I cry all the time now. Someone told me it's because I have so much love in my heart. I can be talking about something and feel so strongly about expressing my emotions that I just begin to cry. Only some people can deal with it, but I feel so guilty about crying I usually don't call anyone who says I can call. I tend to call people who don't want to be bothered and I feel ignored. This begins a vicious cycle of self torture and it later manifests into depression because I'm depleting myself and getting absolutely nothing in return-not even kindness or understanding.

I’m a nurse and the amount of mental pain I’ve suffered from my job has sent me into a depression level that I’ve never had before. I have chronic depression but your video has given me a new goal. And it covers tasks that only people battling depression can relate to such as just simply taking a shower and getting dressed can be such a monumental thought that I throw the covers back over my head!! One thing that has helped me was getting another dog after my buddy of 14 years passed. My dog helps me get on with life and exercise. With no children at home anymore the companionship is vital. Thank you for the good you have brought into this world through your job. Right now, there are people who are alive because of your nursing. Before the creation of the nursing and medical professions, many people died of the most ordinary illnesses - even a cut finger. Now, because of you and other nurses, they had a chance at good health and ongoing life. You repeatedly gave health and life to many people. I know that some people died and others chose to destroy their health in various ways but other people gratefully received your gift of extra years on this planet and have also done good things in their lives. I hope you find a way to be kind to yourself every day. You deserve those gifts of kindness.

Since we’re in our 40s & 50s & tech savvy the response was disappointing. The parents & the former clients went nuts with happiness! In their letters I also included things about WWII that were similar to lockdown. My friends said the parents read & re-read the letters. A lot wrote back, too.

I love your Greenhouse I think that's a brilliant idea and I am inspired to possibly have one on a smaller scale. I to begin my day praying and talking to Heavenly Father, and I also find like you said this just plants a seed of Hope and a seed of joy and faith that we can gracefully and lovingly get through the day and all of its challenges. I rarely watch the news I find I am just too sensitive but I try to just grab the headlines off of news feed. I would love to see the mountains, I could see them towards the beginning of your video really pretty. Thank you for such a down-to-earth Vibe and videos that are chock-full of knowledge as well. This is a great combo a killer combo for you. God bless and keep you safe and your family! Love your sister in Christ Barbara ps, I also have found that counting my blessings and thanking God for everything from a blanket to a bowl of soup, can change your whole outlook and can bring more blessings down I agree completely.

I have suffered with anxiety and depression all 35+ years of my life. Recently during the summer i moved across the country with my family during a pandemic pushing my brain into anxiety over drive. Your first video i watched described every physical thing my body has been doing for YEARS! I TRIED to go to my local ER three times explaining my symptoms and how I wake up crying and I'm hysterical and literally feel like I am not safe and I have to get away---ALL the time. Unfortunately Covid-19 is the focus right now so any negativity connected to that that increases people's anxiety and depression is not addressed. If you don't have covid, you're not important. That being said and feeling that way I stumbled across your videos. THANK YOU! from the bottom of my heart. You look like you're around the same age ish as me and you're obviously very professional. I really really like your videos. I have not seen many and I cannot tell if you still make them, but if you don't--please do! If anyone needs therapeutic helpfulness right now its AMerica...and me. ANyway, thank you again! I enjoy the non emotional professional businesslike manner you deliver the information. I also like that you spent a video opening up and showing your human side. Thank you for the video❤️ I know sometimes I just need a good cry when I feel stressed. I feel so sad for what’s going on in the world😔 You are giving really good tips☺️ I also have a few tips. 1. I try and stay away from negative people; I have a family member who is offended or looks to be offended by almost everything. It is exhausting having to weigh everything I do or say. I have learned my breaking point! 2. I realize quickly the people I can have good a conversation with and the people I can’t, I bow out of the conversation. 3. I limit my own judgment of people. The older I get, the more empathy I have for people. 4. I try to think of at least one thing to do to make the world a better place; even if it’s just a small kind comment on social media or something to help someone out in my travels or interactions. Thank you again for the wonderful video!☺️

I had a difficult, distant, critical dad, so the first thing I say when I awake is to acknowledge God as my Father. I say, "Good morning Father." I begin everyday with gratitude for His care and plans for me. Even when I had breast cancer, I trusted His care and provision for me. I pour out my cares, perceptions, and request to Him early in the quiet of the morning. It anchors me and dispels the voice I heard in my childhood with a positive voice of my hope in God. I so enjoy hearing how you and others cope with depression, grief, and anxiety. I am a work in progress.

Carol, do you know that Jesus is coming back soon? Are you ready? Today is the day of salvation, choose LIFE (Jesus) before it's too late. It won't be long now until the great tribulation of 7 years starts (the last 7 years of the world as it is now, and Jesus will save His followers before the great tribulation starts ), all the signs of the times are pointing towards this, and Jesus is your only hope for salvation, so I'm begging you to ask God to open your eyes and to consider these words from God's Word carefully: "Jesus said , “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) "...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:9-13) "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8) "Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, He was buried, He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Jesus Christ said : “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28) Please watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIHZmJumgJiirs0 super interesting, especially for these times!!

Felicha, Reach a state of equanimity where nothing disturbs you. For a relaxed life without anxiety sit on a chair, back and spine as erect as possible, hands on your lap with palms upwards, close your eyes and do nothing. Be still without moving and observe your incoming--outgoing breath and body sensations for around 10-20 minutes. Be as still as possible. Plenty of thoughts will come but slowly negative thoughts will reduce. The mind is reprogrammed to reach equanimity. Do twice daily as per your convenience. Practice not over-reacting to any situation and focus on your breathing at times during your normal daily activity. Enjoy the above meditation without expectations and your life will transform. Make it a daily habit. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

I was feeling pretty good up until about 2 years ago. But a few things happened. First my mother died. Then I lived for a while in quite an isolated situation; renting an old wooden house in rural New Zealand. Something about being isolated, drinking a lot and binging TV shows and video games for three months. Ever since then I just haven't been able to shake depression. I left that situation and worked for while after that. I liked the job as well. Still just couldn't be happy and I always drink every day now.

Despite what people think alcohol doesn't really improve mood, it actually enhances it. So, try to reduce your consumption or get rid of alcohol at least for a while (some months) and see how your mood improves. Find something else you can do, like taking a walk or any kind of physical exercise. Taking a walk or run in nature (streets lined with alley trees is already sufficient, doesn't have to be real wilderness) or doing yard work would be perfect.

I have a child who had ADHD that he couldn't control when he was little. A trick I figured out that got him to stay in bed at bedtime was we made a deal that he got 1 minute of time for every year of age to sit and talk with me about anything he wanted. (It worked with the other one too) It worked so well and, needless to say, it was a big deal when a birthday rolled around and an additional minute was added. I always used an egg timer and we both had to sign a contract with consequences listed. It was a real stress reliever for this single mom.
