Alright here is the first part of the boxing footwork series explaining some common mistakes and easy fixes. We look at stepping, pivoting, balance, and creating angles in fighting. Footwork is essential for any fighting style, and though styles are different from one another, the basic principles of footwork and balance still apply.
Created with Coach's Eye. Try it out►www.coachseye.com
If you're on your heels, crossing your feet, have too narrow of a stance, or are just off balance, you are susceptible to knockdowns and won't have any real power in your strikes. In other words, ya gotta stay balanced at all times! Make sure you're not making any of the mistakes in this video.

This is the first video of yours I'm watching and I think it's great. I love the style (recording the boxing demo and then recording your voice over it), the detail, the slomo, the illustrations, the replay, the explanations, and the sprinkle of humor (bye Fred!). Will definitely be watching many more of these. Very good. I'm just getting into boxing, and I appreciate your work. Even if I wasn't into boxing, I can still recognize good work when I see it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Shane I thank you from the bottom of my heart for teaching those 180-degree jump squats, I have been doing them once a week since a month or two, and its results are noticeable... I run faster, my turning back kick is now restored to its past glory :D I recommend every martial artist/athlete to try those squats.. remember to land softly on ground.. the quieter the better... Awesome exercise.. tried and tested

This is so good! Been doing the same drills just from memory/habit, but this really put the theory back in it for me. Gonna keep it in mind next time to see if I actually pivot properly. Avoiding sliding kinda solves itself if you have sticky shoes. Used to being barefoot in a dojo, so moving in trainers feels so much more realistic in training for the streets.
@madams989
@madams989 Жыл бұрын
I have two questions if you can help? 1) he totally turns his back / is blindsided when he goes to the right before pivoting, is this normal? 2) I take it the extra step generally leads to a better angle? Or do you sometimes still step with the right foot first when going to right? And ensure not crossing feet etc like when first taught? Thanks!

Beautifully done!! You must have some great coaches! Whatever you're doing don't stop! I'm so glad you addressed the "dead leg" being dragged as a "Don't" in footwork...big pet peeve of mine when I watch MMA fights, yet so many do it. Lot's of things happening with what you're doing, but the covers it well for just over 7 minutes.

alot of things work under pressure... it's not the move and whether it works "under pressure". it's if you work under pressure. you need ring time. get your timing down and defence. lol I imagine all techniques don't work if your getting hit in the face
@LandfillProductions
@LandfillProductions 7 жыл бұрын
^ Exactly that. The techniques work, it's just a matter of who is applying them better in live combat. You need more ring time, for sure. Sparring is just the next step. Sparring doesn't compare to a real fight. All you can do is more sparring.

Ey shane ( or other cool guys) what is the difference between the boxing stance and the muay thai stance? Oh and also is there any other footwork differences?

The Muay Thai stance is a little more narrow, so you can easily lift your leg to check or throw kicks. Also, the lead foot is usually facing straight forward, where boxers usually face slightly inward.

Chris Camozzi It's the opposite of narrow, you have a wider stance in Muay Thai. Shane doesn't know what he's talking about

LionelWitchieWardrob nope, compared to boxing the muay thai stance is very narrow because then you can check leg kicks easier. mma has a very wide stance though

Chris Camozzi Ah I meant in terms of angle. Got you. More wide from front view, as opposed to a narrow bladed stance in boxing

Hey Shane, love the videos! I was told in Muay Thai to keep your feet lower and almost drag them when you move so you've got a stronger base when receiving leg kicks? What are your thoughts? Is it better to be lighter and faster or slower and more rooted? Thanks in advance for any help
