I love your quote about "before I was able to conceptualize the concept of nuance in general" -- it very much describes me and many of the ways I deal with life (for instance when I ruin the meals I cook because I want to put in as much seasonings as possible instead of just the right amount (more is better, right?), or when I refuse to trust my own intuition because it is too subtle for me to handle). I also am autistic and share most of the physical problems you have (although to a MUCH less extreme degree).

yes!!! i've always struggled with this as a disabled autistic person and i've found that walking to my classes across campus while listening to stimmy/special interest-related music is ideal for me because i Have to do it and my body doesn't register it as exercise, despite me walking and exerting myself multiple times every day for extended periods. i really appreciate this video because logically i know exercise will help, but i'm so averse to it from a myriad of life experiences. finding ways to make exercise fun and a part of daily life is crucial and the 5 tips you discussed are what i've found to work for me. thanks for another incredible video sydney!!!

This is such an important topic!!! I'm so glad you're getting to experience an excitement for what your body can do. I think my most common negative self-talk is the opposite- "why can't I do this, it's unfair that I can't do this, I hate that I can't do this etc." I got to experience what you are now the year leading up to the pandemic, and when my pool physio shut down (for almost the entire year- it was awful!!), it devastated me and I realized just how much it had been helping when I couldn't do it anymore. For me, a proper, safe stretching routine is also imperative, and supporting my body with lots of vegetarian protein.

Pilates and Ballet Barre are excellent. They can be done at home by watching YT. I find them mentally stimulating because they involve good form, posture, breath and controlled precise movement - no jumping and flailing around. The precision is very challenging and you will work up a sweat after an hour. Work small muscles you did know you had and strengthen muscles around the joints. You can do a little bit of exercise whenever/wherever you want - I do ballet foot work while doing the dishes or even in public while waiting in a line :)

I find adaptive sports are best for me as exercises dont sit well with my brain and im more likely to push myself to far but if its an activity im more likely to pace better.

Just watched the intro, and yes! So much yes! I know that a few years ago, I came out of a doctor's appointment, crying, saying something like "Why does she say I should do sport if my leg hurts every time?" I found then for me personally I wanted to get into meditation and did a few guided meditations and they were fun but I'm too hyperactive for that and then got into Yoga which now I do a beginner Yoga thingy for 10 minutes 5days/week, usually in the evening (although it's a morning routine, best thing, when I found out that just 'cause it says morning routine on the title I don't actually have to do it in the morning)
