There is something that fully confirms this theory. Fox Face. She did everything you said, but she didn't have a strong enough story. She ran from the Cornucopia, she had awesome survival skills, she stayed solo, she stayed hidden and had great strategies like the one during the feast. But she forgot about poisonous berries and died. And in the books it's said that during the interview she revealed a mistireous personality, but that's it, she was not memorable enough.

Quick note, one important factor that you didn't mention in either video is sleeping. Everyone has to do it at some time, and when, where, and how you sleep can seriously impact your chance of survival. Examples: Tying yourself up in a tree to sleep (like Katniss did) Camouflaging yourself (like Peeta did) Staying awake late or waking up early to find tributes to murder in their sleep. Setting traps so people can't sneak up on you (a la hunting traps or that smart kid that dug up the mines) Practicing waking up to small noises (before the games) Figuring out how much sleep you need to stay focused If you choose to be a stealthy night assassin then you'll have to figure out a way to keep yourself safe when you sleep during the daytime. Also one more thing to do is strategize with your mentor about the parachute drops. For example if there's a tool that you really need (such as a knife or way to get water) then they should send it to you very early in the games (when it is cheaper to send things).

You will have all the supplies that they will eventually need, and at anytime could form alliances and take it from you. If you decide later on to abandon the cornucopia, you will have a higher chance of getting ambushed, because you’re not familiar with the terrain.

So far in the comments I’ve read two good strategies: 1) once you get a parachute, fill them with nightlock and send them in the air again so that another tribute finds them. 2) make nightlock juice and give them to your “allies” while they sleep But a better idea would be if you make juice, send it on the parachute and have one of the other dehydrated kids drink em without a second thought?

His shine a light on things but you have to look at more. If your going to be an aggressive tribute then use Spear Machete Matches And a tree. Reason why is because a spear will scare people. Its long ranged while others have thier knife trying to stab you with it. The machete is for close combat. Those can cut ropes and chains. So its a good hitting weapon. The tree is for hunting and waiting. If you found thier base then just throw the spear you got at them. Its a easy kill. For a passive tribute You want : A knife Food Water And being able to be quick. Most of them died in the start. When you can be quick you can get a backpack faster. Most die because they try to stand thier ground. Run because they cant throw a knife or spear very well while running. Since your not going to be killing you need to have your own food and water. Stealing will be good. And if you can set traps it will be better because you're one person. They dont expect you to live. And hiding is a must. You cant go running forever. So uh yea. If the hunger games start then just know ill be dead the 5 seconds because ill have a heart attack.

After that if you remain hidden your infamy shouldn't matter - you simply can't hunt a specific person, cos the objective is to kill everyone else, not just one, so nobody will ease time following specifically your tracks even if you left them AND they knew which were yours. So don't be spotted until the end basically. However, if this doesn't sound good to you, I imagine the best tactic is to remain around average in memorability... Enough to get presents and for people to like you, but not so much they want to kill you. It might even be better to start with below ratings, then show your greatness in the games themselves (ie pretend you suck before the games begin), then the audience can see your skill, but the other fighters won't be targeting you

I love how the strategy of making a good show is seen in the books, with Katniss looking into the cameras and smiling after finding out about Peeta working with the careers and how she builds the whole romance to entertain the Capitol and giving the game makers an interesting, entertaining and unique aspect of the show to work with

That last one is what undid the capital, Katniss had a compelling storyline...too compelling, so compelling that it ignited the underlying anger in the districts. The capital was so into using the games for entertainment and to tell a storyline that by the time they realized her story was the wrong one to let play out live to the masses the fire had already been lit.

The smart thing to do would be to go to the Cornucopia, but not straight to the center. Take some supplies from the edge. Maybe a knife or two. +Riccardo Monico Look at someone like Johanna Mason. In the 71st games, she was the dictionary definition of defensive. She started playing defensively before she entered the arena by training in private and purposefully getting herself a low score to ensure other tributes didn't consider her a threat. They didn't think much of her, and didn't actively hunt her down. The Capitol did the same thing-letting her live for now, but knowing that she would be an easy kill later. Towards the end of the games, she got her hands on an axe, a weapon she had been using from a young age (the industry of her home district being lumber). She then surprised everyone by killing the last tributes with the strength no one knew she had. My point is that playing defensively can be the best strategy if done well.

I think a good hint was one of Haymitch's in the book: "don't reveal what you're good at during training with others". Hey Matpat! Another great survival video! There are some important factors that you might have forgotten about: What if you CAN’T find water like in the 75th hunger games? The only way that they got drinkable water was from the trees. In the first book, Katniss mentioned that poorer districts have the tactical advantage of having a better tolerance for hunger. In your opinion what do you think is better? Lots of lbs or higher tolerance for starvation? People who have sad backstorys are more vulnerable to attacks like the jabberjays or any emotion related attacks. You also didn’t mention the tessera. Is it worth it? I completely agree with all of your points but… You should definitely think about pre hunger games. Not the week before, The year you turn twelve and your name can be pulled. You can always become a career right? I would love to see a part 3!

Okay, so, uhh... 1: If you can't find water, you die, lol. It's as simple as that. In fact, in the first book, Katniss almost died of dehydration before stumbling on a pond by sheer luck! In a situation where you cannot find water, you just have to hope that you either stumble upon a water source by chance or that your mentor sends some to you. 2: I don't think the two have nothing to do with each other. Eating a lot before the Games shouldn't affect your tolerance for hunger, at least as far as I am aware, but I could be wrong. 3: Yes, people with sad backstories are vulnerable to things like that, but there's really nothing they can do to help it. Unless, of course, they make up a fake backstory for themselves and hide their real, sad backstory from the world, but that might honestly not be worth it, due to how hard it is to mask something like that. 4: Wether or not tessera is worth it depends on how much you care about your and your family's survival. I mean, the idea of tesserae is that any child of Reaping age can request an year's worth of grain and oil from the Capitol, but the cost of that food is higher chances of getting Reaped into the games, and each child can take as many tesserae as there are family members in the house. So it's probaply NOT worth it, unless there is absolutely NO other food available. However, if there really is no other food source for you and your family, then yeah, of course it is worth it, because if you don't take it, you're gonna die anyway from starvation. And lastly, 5: No, you cannot just become a Career. It is illegal. Training for the Games in any way is illegal, as well as owning a weapon. The only reason Districts 1, 2 and 4 can become Careers is that they have very close ties to the Capitol, and thus enjoy many special privilliges other Districts don't have access to, such as the right to train for the Games. So yeah, you can become a Career, as long as you are from District 1, 2 or 4 (or alternatively, you can train for the games in secret if you are from another District, but that is VERY risky business, both for you and your family). I've always liked Johannah's strategy. She got hysterical and played the lost little girl until the bell rang, and then she wreaked havoc and killed everyone.Also, I wonder if there were many instances of cannibalism in the Arena. There had to be, especially when they were thrown into a snow desert or something. Depending on what weapons you have, you can definitely hack someone's arm off before the body is collected.

What I actually love is that the smart, survival-savvy characters all know this. This isn't Mat-Pat making stuff up or the book being stupid and not thinking through how something like this would really work. The trouble is that 1) At least half of the tributes in a given year are just scared kids who are too busy panicking to follow good strategies, even if they have a good mentor helping them create strategies 2) Many of the mentors are just traumatized victims who are much more interested in emotionally distancing themselves from their mentees to better help themselves deal with their inevitable murder than investing in trying to help their mentee become the 1 person to actually win 3) Some of the strategies seem counter-intuitive or at least counter to instincts if you are a panicking (or raging) teenager 4) Any given tribute may not have the skill-set going in to properly apply good strategy. For example, if you are slow, clumsy, (or heaven forbid, have disabilities related to motor skills) you are in BIG trouble, even if you play the smartest strategies in the world. If you are a huge, hulking career from District 1, the "lay low, survive on few calories, and play defensively" strategy is not going to work as well for you as for, say Katniss or Foxface. If you are socially awkward or just bad with people, you'd better hope that you have a phenomenal stylist and a public relations whiz madly in love with you, because you're going to have a really hard time selling your story. 5) Even if you do everything right, you can be taken out by bad luck or out of left field gamemaker decisions. Sure, Ocean Map or Antartica map were unpopular games that won't likely be repeated BUT THEY HAPPENED. By the same key, you might get killed by another contestant making a poor strategic decision, meaning they won't win either, but you'll still be dead 6) If EVERYONE makes good, smart, strategic decisions, 24 people still have to die, and it will come down to skill, strength, and fan favorite power. So knowing exactly what to do is really only helpful if other people don't and make poor decisions.

You could play the Finnick card and and pretend to be in love with someone not in the games and promise to win for them. Because Katniss and Peeta already trusted each other, so it'd be hard to find someone to fake with you cuz they might backstab you. Make sure to milk it by having "nightmares" that dramatically talk about how much you love them in your sleep. Throwing knives are one of the best weapons because it is both short and long range. You can use it in hand to hand combat and to throw it at people (you might miss and they might throw it back though). Maybe create tiny obstacles for yourself so the gamemakers dont force you to other people. A few days before the game you want to work on running stamina but also eat high carb and low muscle diet. Muscle will burn your calories faster and you want to minimize it while staying in good enough shape to fight if needed. Unlike Katniss who did not research much, look at previous games during your week, see if you should go to cornacopia, learn about different enviroments and how to survive them. For instance if you are in the arctic, go to the cornacopia because you will NEED the clothes and warmth. Learn how to build a fire, you need it to clean water, cook food, keep warm.

I had a lucid dream where I went into the Hunger Games and I realized it was a dream but of course I ran away from the Cornucopia but let me tell you there's nothing worse than that feeling of having nothing, I actually ran back into the fight because I felt so unprotected. (But that was just a dream so idk)
