I think Wonder Woman was decent, and would've been good if the final act hadn't been a bland CGI fight, and I think Shazam was actually pretty entertaining... but "ZSJL", as you call it, is a poorly written, badly paced mess that demolishes all of its major characters. Well, at least we seem to agree on the entire rest of the DCEU. Worst one so far? I'd probably have to say Birds of Prey, but Wonder Woman 1984 is a hot contender...

And it didn’t. It was a huge success especially for a 4 hour film. It kept me entertained and wanting more. It was a success not in a way that snyder cut fans thought it was just good film but no, it exceeded my expectations. It was a great film! Even some of the marvel fans genuinely enjoyed it.

@@imirkksome2476 I don't think Josh Whedon is bad per say. It's that Snyder has his tone and so does Whedon and neither one is objectively worse or better, it's up to preference. Snyder was already halfway in making JL when Whedon was bought in to make is more "marvel like". That miss match in tone and the forced jokes really fucked up the original. Then there was the run time they were forced to shorten it to 2 hrs so naturally they had to cut out a lot of bits. The main thing at fault here is corporate greed neither director is explicitly to blame. Still disappointed to see there won't be more of the snyder-verse because I want more of darksied and I want injustice to happen.

The flipside of the whole cognitive dissonance thing is that we could easily end up in a situation where vast numbers of people end up going "Wait *that* was the famous Snyder cut everyone's been going on about for years?". Sure, some of the fans who are deeply invested in this thing will be unwilling to let it go, regardless of how good the actual film (or miniseries) is. But all the hype has attracted the interest of a much wider circle of people who *aren't* as invested - and who are plenty willing to tell the world if they don't think the film was worth their time. And that's not even counting the people who will go into the film irritated by all the hype and setting a *higher* bar to judge it by.

Psychology or not, anytime there are multiple cuts of a movie, I want to see them both and enjoy them both for different reasons. Also "good movie" and "bad movie" are subjective. So the idea that "The Snydercut will be successful even if it's 'bad'" Doesn't make sense, because it isn't an absolute, it' an opinion. The people who won't like it have their own reasons and the people who will like it do as well. Saying they "convince themselves" one way or the other is kind of... a stretch? There are people who hated BvS, there are people who loved it. I don't think that either group had to convince themselves to feel one way or the other. If anything, you could say "Some people will like it because they like anything with Wonder Woman in it" and I would find that a more valid reason than "They will convince themselves it's good because they wanted it for so long." In fact, I would say the opposite is more likely. The reason a person doesn't like a movie, is often based on their unfulfilled exectations. People are always seeing a trailer, or a teaser even, and inventing an entire plot in their heads of what they should expect from this movie, and when there is an incongruity between their imaginary movie, and the actual they will often say it's a bad movie. I guess we shall see what happens... after all.. this is only a theory!

Seriously, though, it was slightly better than the theatrical cut in many places and slightly worse even in some. The characters were butchered, and much of the four hours was bloat and slow-motion. Batman felt even more useless than in Josstice League, Barry was a creep and had no excuse to be so underused in the final fight (taking minutes to generate a charge for Victor when it takes him a second to perfectly bend time to his will), Diana is a murderer, despite what we know about her from her other movies, and even Victor who got a lot more scenes, some of which were good, seems less impressive as a character than he previously did. The chemistry between Barry and him is gone, yet the fistbump at the end remains without its original subtle payoff, and despite having fallen in love at first glance with Iris, which seems to be a popular excuse for that creepy hot dog scene, he also hints at having a crush on Diana. Even Arthur is worse, and that folk song in his honor, or whatever that meme was, is part of the aforementioned bloat. Oh, and when Superman is resurrected and goes berserker, he now even kills soldiers (one gunner at the very least) - great!

Gene Roddenberry was an actual good creator though.

@@mattp6089 Well, kind of. Star Trek was good, and that is thanks largely to Roddenberry's vision, but he was also kind of an asshole, and quite sexist. TNG generally got better the less he was involved with it.
