Disney's TANGLED is one of my favorite modern Disney Classics, but the movie begs answers to Several questions about Rapunzel's luscious locks. Have you ever wondered if hair is actually strong enough to carry the weight of a grown man? Or if Rapunzel could manage the weight of so much hair in the first place? Well after getting tangled up in some research, Loyal Theorists, I have found the answers!

One wrong thing I could think of. Since the body could get used to the stress after the build-up of her 18 years worth of hair. Would that not mean her body would be very powerful after dragging that hair around for so long. Since humans have adapted to almost everything that has been thrown at us that means we can overcome anything with time. 18 years of 4 inches of hair growth per month with the weight of her hair increasing at a constant rate would mean her body would naturally adapt to the stress on it.
@kaleisharp4405

@glowy_tulip
@glowy_tulip Ай бұрын
adaption doesn’t work like that. adaption occurs over a LONG span of time and will not change in your life. if she decided to have a child whose hair had that same tension and the cycle repeated, maybe, just maybe, her descendants would have adapted to the tension but that would be so many generations afterward, i’m talking thousands of generations. this is obviously just my knowledge though.

I have a question. Since Rapunzel’s hair has magic healing powers, wouldn’t that mean every time she sings that song, she’s healing herself? Edit:Holy crap I did not expect all these likes and replies! Tysm Edit 2: TYSM for all the likes! Edit 3: O get notifs every day.Ty all so much!

Alright, but she sings her healing song on a regular basis, so while the magic goes through her hair to wherever someone is touching it, couldn't her hair also be repairingitself, since the healing magic has to go through there each and every time? Maybe that's also the reason why her hair looks and smells good, because the magic is getting rid of all of the dirt and repairs any damaged hairs?
@maxdebeau8132
@maxdebeau8132 7 жыл бұрын
That actually makes sense, if the healing magic is just kind of healing everything it passes through, like a eugenes hand stuck in the hair etc.
@poke-hontas372
@poke-hontas372 7 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought, too. I just wonder why it isn't able to repair itself, once it's been cut? (Although I've seen a trailer for a rapunzel show or something of the sorts, and in that, her full head of hair grew back, all at once) - I wonder if that's because the hair healed itself, thus growing back?
@kpcc-sx2ek
@kpcc-sx2ek 7 жыл бұрын
Might be... I've seen the trailer, too. If that's the reason why, then that show may have just confirmed our theory :D

This is the first I've ever heard of this Lele person so I'm afraid I don't really know the whole story and I can't be bothered to look it up. However, hair only grows for about 3-7 years so from what I've seen in this video (which is admittedly very limited) it is entirely possible that she had never cut her hair and it would only be that length.

I feel like mat forgot the fact her hair hasn't been 56 pounds her whole life. When we see Rapunzel on her journey her hair has grown out to the hefty 70 feet at THAT point. When she was a small girl her hair was a lot shorter (still very long but regardless). My question is, would it be possible for Rapunzel's scalp to build up a tolerance to the weight of her hair over the years because of its steady growth?

Also jenna marbles lifted her dog by balloons and her dog is 7 lbs and it took somewhere between 50-100 ( it’s been awhile since I watched that video) balloons to lift him and a house weighs a lot more than 7 lbs.

When she walks two feet she only carries some part of her hair (Unless it's tied to a shorter braid), and remember that she spent most of her life in a small tower, which means she couldn't walk a lot to carry it around. Now imagine that with repunzel. She cut off 60 pounds of hair, she would have had to learn how to walk cause she would keep falling on her face 😂

You said that it probably isn't true that that one KZbinr girl had never cut her hair before because it wasn't 9 feet long, but each hair has a growth cycle so they fall out every few years, preventing it from getting beyond a certain length. This is why body hair and animal hair never gets super long. THIS is the real problem with Rapunzel's hair being so long, though you can explain everything away with the fact that her hair is magical.

It makes sense that hair's tensile strength is greater than the force needed to pull it out, because otherwise when you tried to pull a hair out, it would break where you were pulling it instead. As for keeping it clean, the brushing would remove debris and dirt. What you missed is the *friction* of dragging 65 feet of hair along the floor/ground! It wouldn't just be the hair's weight she's pulling, it would be the friction between every inch of hair and the ground it's dragging on resisting every movement.

Wait, if her body had slowly been going under more and more stress by her hair as she was slowly growing older and older, shouldn't her body, muscles and scalp slowly adapt or grow stronger as the hair on her head slowly got heavier giving her the physical capability in her muscles and scalp in order to support her hair? Like how those people who wear the ring things on their necks slowly have longer necks as they put more and more rings as they grow up? Edit: Ok so apparently the rings actually work by pushing on the shoulders but still, it works on the same principle that she adapts to her conditions. And just to get this over with, I didn't take into account the healing ability in her hair because I wanted to keep this based in real life, but if you do take it into account, I guess it would be helping her if she could heal herself which I'm personally not sure if she can or not.

The sad part of the longneck thing: if the rings are removed (like by a husband who thinks his wife cheated) the neck will be unable to support itself and snap. In the same line of reasoning, I don't think human hair follicles are equipped with the potential to grow stronger and more resistant to strain the way muscles can. Though I can't speak in definites since I haven't exactly researched it myself, it seems unlikely.

Pnut 13 by how it sounded, the question was more of what would the hair be able to do without magic. the assumption was that the hair would need to be magic strengthened and make her stronger. his findings is that, no, the hair itself can handle what she is doing to it. thus the only thing that the magic had to do is make it grow faster, keep it clean, and heal her scalp regularly. everything else is natural hair power combined with repunzel herself getting used to carrying a 60 pound weight on her head.

Lele could be telling the truth. Hair has a growth cycle its why we drop hair and why it wont grow past a certain length (varies between individuals) Its also why having super duper long hair could mean you have a hormonal problem. the hair starts growing, grows for a few years then falls out and then a new strand starts growing, only reason we arent bald once every few years is because all strands arent at the same place in the growth cycle

Maybe because her hair is magical it never gets dusty. Let's just agree that Rapunzel herself is just unreal. Everyone else seems to work within reasonable limits on the Tangled movie and series, but Rapunzel gets to defy physics with ease. Her very nature actually wouldn't make a lot of sense. I mean, really, her feel should be dirty due to how she walks barefoot everywhere all the time. Thry should also hurt since she's likely walked on small rocks or sticks while trekking the woods. Her hair should be all kinds of dirty, too, but it isn't. Probably because it's magic, but still.

5:15 Her neck is fine regardless of the weight since she’s pulling the hair with her hands not her head, which means most, if not all, of that weight is being transferred to her arms. So the only way her neck would be in danger is if she let go. So as long as she’s able to pull the weight, she’s fine.

I was looking through the comments just to find someone saying this! As someone who grew up with very long and easily tangled hair, pulling on hair becomes a lot less painful when you hold the base of your hair with your hands. The force that would usually be put on your head is transferred to your hands and arms instead, leading to a much less painful experience.

i know I'm late but wouldn't her hair growing over the 18 years, wouldn't her head have gotten used to the weight of her hair. It would have grown slow enough that her head would have slowly gotten used to the weight of her hair. It's similar to when you lift weights at a gym. Your muscles slowly get used to the weight and soon that amount of weight wouldn't be that big of a deal.

You know, the hair falling out thing may affect us, but Rapunzel has healing hair. It would automatically heal her scalp. But the cleaning thing you really can't argue with. Edit- I know that matpat said he would be looking at this without the healing aspect, but in the end, he was talking as if that line (about not acknowledging the healing aspect) at the beginning didn't matter. Edit 2- someone mentioned that in the song that she sings, it says that the hair doesn't heal, but it turns back time, so the hair would be self cleaning. So my comment is useless.
