You could also have the hover chairs automatically send the humans to a food production area on the ship, this can be proven with how the humans seem to not know where they are in the ship or what facilities it has as well as the fact that they probably won’t put up much of a fight without the hover chairs to support them so once they are considered elderly they might just be executed by the autopilot

I think they're just growing cells in the lab, like the actual technology that already exists today (search for lab meat). Maybe today it wouldn't be possible since you still need plant based substances to grow this cells into meat, but honestly I don't think it's far fetched that they learned how to get those substances even if they don't have the actual plant. Idk, it just seems more likely to me since the technology already exists. But of course, it's much more fun to imagine this crazy scenario and theorize about cannibalism in a kids movie lol

Only about 500 to go
@kcosmoss3 жыл бұрын
@@chancellorpalpatine7486 It actually does make sense. There is no "standard" calorie deficit that every adult has to be at. The deficit that you have to be at to lose weight is highly dependent on your current weight and eating habits. So if a person makes a habit out of eating 3 pizzas a day, which is obviously a lot of calories, down to just 1 pizza, they're going to lose some weight simply because that's a lot less calories than what there were consuming on a regular basis before. It's harder for comparably thinner people to lose weight because they're already eating alot less calories than a heavier person. So if a heavier person has to eat 2200 calories a day to lose weight, a smaller person might have to eat 1700 to lose any weight.

One thing I want to bring up: when does something no longer count as cannibalism? One could argue that breaking dead bodies down into individual organic chemicals that you reassemble into food is processing them about as thoroughly as, say, using them as fertilizer for plants. Also, if you are mechanically synthesizing sewage back into food, that would also vastly increase the longevity of the food supply.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this. Moss, algae and mycelium don’t take up much space and can be grown and used for many things. Vitamin c supplements aren’t made from citrus fruits. I believe the cannibalism theory but human cadavers alone isn’t enough sustenance. Trees and many plants don’t look like they exist on board. But fungi are a incredible resource that is often forgotten. A insect farm would be easier to maintain than a chicken farm. Cuz there’s no need to plant fruit or vegetables for a simple “5” year trip. It would be great if this topic was revisited but honestly it’s a movie and I don’t think the creators would care that much about the whole calorie problem that many people mentioned. But it would be fun to see a video explaining the nutritional side of wall-e, not just caloric numbers.

7:25 Correction: Electricity is solved using Nuclear Power. You did establish that the Axiom seems to run on Nuclear Energy. Sure Solar Panels might help supplement the Fusion Reactors powering the Vessel, but for the most part I think the Axiom might've just relied on Nuclear power alone. I say Fusion Reactors because the Axiom was already commissioned way ahead from our current time period, so would it be unreasonable to assume that Nuclear Fusion Technology had already Advanced to the point where they could now safely power Starships? Nuclear and Electrolysis also do go hand-in-hand with each other. While not in space, Nuclear-powered Submarines of the United States Navy can stay submerged for extended periods of time thanks to their Oxygen Generators. It's already a proven technology today, and it wouldn't be surprising to see it's continued utilization for about 700 Years - give or take - into the Axiom's Voyage. On a side note: you also wouldn't have to worry about any Nuclear Waste with Fusion, as it only produces Low-Level, Short-Lasting Radioactive Waste; that and Helium. Meaning one less thing to worry about while you're trying to preserve what's left of Humanity in Space: Giant Blobs sitting in Floating Hover Chairs.

It's just annoying that such an interesting theme as cannibalism cannot apply in a long term food shortage situation. Even with cannibalism, a food supply meant for 5 years will not last 700 years. Remember biology food chains: you lose 90% of energy input at each level of a food chain. Even eating humans would only give you a 10% return of what that human used. Presumably they power the electrics of the ship with a nuclear reactor (fusion if it's the future), which in turn can be used to produce light for crops. Water can be recycled, or harvested from comets and asteroids. If you really were committed to sustainability, there would be no meat production at all, to reduce the number of steps in the food chain. Presumably vitamin B12 would be grown from bacteria, as it is for vegan supplements.

Hey MatPat, I'm no nutritionist, but I'm pretty sure that there are more necessities to human survival than pure caloric intake. What about the essential amino acids, proteins, and vitamins that the body needs for survival. I highly doubt that they are getting all that from liquified adipose tissue. However there is a very easy solution to this. Why can't there be a farm on the ship? Yeah, we see that the humans have no idea what a plant is; but any kind of hydroponics system could be entirely automated. A fully automated system left alone for centuries could easily be forgotten over the generations of passengers. Think about it, they were originally serving restaurant quality meals for the 5 year period. However, fruits and vegetables can't just stay good for 5+ years, meaning they must have had means to get some fresh. However, I still fully agree that there is definitely cannibalism going on, because that is definitely the sort of thing an AI trying to stretch resources indefinitely will turn to. I'm just saying that they need something more than that to survive. Any half-decent cannibal still understands that they need greens in their diet.
@kamille2863 жыл бұрын
Honestly I agree, because the thing I can't get over is the closed system theory. On Earth, all energy indirectly comes from the sun, with plants photosythesis, animals eat the plants, and animals eat other animals thing. But how long could that last in a system in which they aren't getting energy from an outside source? With the sun it's not infinite-it'll stop when the sun dies- but humans eating other humans, who in turn get eaten later on for many generations, gets less and less efficient with transferring that energy. Though maybe it would last 700+ years? But your point on needing other nutrients is a good point, and solves the eventual decay of the system

Plus like. That assumes they needed humans to farm. When it's abundantly clear that no human being does any work on the Axiom. If there's a food production deck, it's just as automated. + I feel like there'd be a lot more endemic health problems on the if the only food source was people given that cannibalism IRL even in the short term causes Prion diseases. My theory is similar to MatPats, there's a lot of biomass recycling going on. The humans are turned into fertilizer which is taken to the completely automated agriculture deck to be grown into food. But doing so allows them to grow sugar and wheat, and other forms of nutrients that could actually keep the Axiom crew relatively healthy, sedentary lifestyle aside.

It seems unlikely because she needed the help of the demigod for the angry Te Fiti. And she also realized she is Te Fiti while he was causing a diversion.

I haven't read much of the comments, so I apologize in advance if I'm stating something that's already been said. When it comes to the many different flavours we see on board, some may think that a single source of food -especially something that is meat- having so many different flavours and things to offer may be pushing it. Liquifying a food source is a good way to disguise the taste, but to make something like meat taste like cupcakes in a cup, you may question a bit of the realism and if it's even possible. Simple answer: It is and it can be done quite easily. By making something smell like something else you can trick your brain into tasting whatever you think you smell. This is actually done quite a bit with flavour packs or extensions, where they don't actually add anything to whatever you're putting it to, but only mocks the different taste by scent. You could also believe what you want to the point of it becoming that way. Like taking a sugar pill fully believing it to be an Advil (though this, I believe, is more in theory.) It works for some while not working for others. It's simply a psychological trick. I have no clue if this is actually really common knowledge and I'm just stating the obvious, so again, sorry. Have a good night/day!

The original wall-e cannibalism video was the first video from film theory I’ve ever seen and after that first video I instantly fell in love with this channel.
During the movie the captain talks about being able to grow 'pizza plants' which although scientifically impossible definitely implies that the captain knows what pizza is and has almost certainly eaten it. isn't this sufficient evidence to argue against the premise that the humans only eat liquid food, a strong challenge to the theory as a whole.

He probably just watch a video. The captain is dumb & dependent on technology there's no way he knows how to grow a plant he even hardly know what a plant is or how to open & use a book.
