I thought Harley's portrayal in the film was pretty accurate - in her own crazy way, she strikes a balance between her intentions and her emotions which is reflected in how she fights and when she chooses to fight back. She acted impulsively at first - but after killing the dictator and being tortured for a while, she killed everyone using her skills which she clearly has been honing well - in terms of combat experience, she's up there with Flag and Peacemaker. She can strategise but she can also improvise- the wild card element works very well for Harley. Besides that, this movie was a really good story in itself, despite many characters dying early on - the movie made us care about the characters it simultaneously introduced and Flag's death hit hard, not to mention how devastating it was to lose Polka Dot Man. Plus, yeah, Ratcatcher 2 had the best backstory and her friendship with Bloodsport was simply natural and wholesome.

@@walloper9972 Well, it wasnt really a waste or power. Harley is just a person, not a super human, same with rick, same with boomer. On top of that, if we assume the last movie happened, they also were proven to be people that actively worked against the main plan, were unreliable. If the last movie didnt happen, than harley is a smart, but loose cannon, boomer doesnt offer much, and rick while a talented soldier, is still just a regular highly trained soldier, of which the military likely has plenty of, but still a leader and someone needed to lead an assualt. Nobody in group A really offered much in terms of power. Group B however contained two people that were extra ordinary in terms of their lethality, but also very mission orientated people, with bloodsport having a unique and powerful arsenal to boot, and peacemaker being the one person waller knew would adhear to the mission, because they could frame the peace side of it. Thats his unique power that set him apart from bloodsport in the beginning when he said they are the same. I think another small detail that makes this movie so good is that when the team considers getting rid of King Shark, Waller tells them that he is the strongest member of the team, when in reality the strongest member is obviously Polka-Dot Man. Remember, King Shark has bulletproof skin. This means they had no way of putting that bomb in his neck. In the comics, this was solved with a belt that was meant to do the same however it failed. By telling the team that King Shark is necessary and they shouldn't ditch him, Waller was making sure they didn't anger the only team member they had no plan for stopping. Luckily, King Shark is an idiot who didn't know that not everyone liked him on the team so he never decided to get angry except for the time when Bloodsport shot at him. This detail really made me realize Waller is a genius and not just the mean lady telling the protagonists what to do.

The attention to detail sprinkled throughout The Suicide Squad is amazing. For example, Savant is in prison due to Black Canary arresting him so the opening scene where he kills a canary is symbolic to his hatred and wanting for vengeance. It does and doesn't. If anything it highlights the issue of there being 3 people you KNOW are going to make it to the end. Bloodsport, because he is the protagonist they put the most effort into characterising. Harley, because lol they are not killing off their most recognisable name. King Shark, because they want him to sell merch as the "cutesy animal like ally" similar to Groot from Guardians. Throughout the movie I knew those were pretty much safe so it just made me think "Okay so when are they gonna kill off Polka Dot Man or Flag?" I still enjoyed this movie a hell of a lot more but I really wished they didn't just throw Harley in as an additional "name recognition" character since there was no way they'd kill her off because of her popularity.

The only reason he survived is because he is this movies Groot for selling merch, if you look into even just Funko Pop sales (those shitty cheap looking figures) his has already sold out in most places both for the smaller and larger one while the price is jacked up. People love their CGI cute characters that act like animals or toddlers (Groot, Baby Yoda etc) Harley's plot armour is based on luck, not competancy. Well, the answer is actually quite simple: WB really intervened with the "David Ayer" Suicide Squad, and heavily altered the movie. When James Gunn got kicked out at Marvel, however, DC and WB greeted him with open arms, and they gave him complete creative freedom to do whatever the hell James Gunn wanted.

While the editing of the original movie was nearly war crime level bad, and should be given whatever the reverse of an Oscar is as far and away one of the most egregious bad movies I've ever seen--You need to understand that fundamentally it was also full of bad ideas. I'm sure like the movie Bright, it had a chance to be something really good really special and start a new generation of movies. But also like Bright, I am 100% sure that no one involved was going to let that happen. From music choices, to the editing, to the casting, to the writing and directing the costuming everything, it is an underwhelming movie and while I'm sure it was at one point a slightly better one, you can't give it too much credit.

Waller is always interesting, in fact the first movie nailed why she's so terrifying: she can sit down with Bruce Wayne over dinner and NOT be intimidated by the fact she knows he's Batman and doesn't give a fuck about the fact he knows what she's planning. She's more interested in knowing what he's doing because its her job to be. Spoilers: Well, I think the most interesting part about the Suicide Squad concept is that everyone (except for Harley) can die. This made almost no difference in the first movie but in this they use it immediately to great effect and don't shy away later either. Also they played up this "we're the bad guys" in the first one without anyone really being that bad. In this they really do bad things (although due to false information) and Harley as a Psycho Killer really shines, so even that aspect worked (much better). And finally, the concept allows to put basically every character from DCs backlog into one movie without having to establish a connection and stuff. They go much more creative in this one than in the first.

I love Rat Catcher 2, and I genuinely hope we see her character again, and I was surprised how attached I got to both Polka Dot Man and Nanaue by the end. I was really rooting for Polka Dot Man, his sudden death hurt a lot.

His take on Harley was way off. I don't know why he has such a problem with her being a badass, I thought Harley Quinn was supposed to be good at killing people and thrives in chaos. So no she doesn't do what the tactical, precision assassin Bloodsport or Peacemaker does. In wrestling we called it "creating a scramble", it's where you use weird moves or whatever, and you put both you in your opponent in a bad position, and then have to rely on athleticism and willpower over skill to get the advantageous position. Basically if shit goes side ways, she is there to turn it sideways on the enemy too.
@lenlimbo2 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasmaniccia1005 She may be an agent of chaos, I won't deny it, but she can be quite intelligent about it, when she wants. Let's remember than in BTAS (or was it TNBAS? Now that I think about Batman's looks in that chapter, it was probably TNBAS) it was her who got closer to kill Bruce than the Joker. She even got in the plan the joke that Joker would have tried to put. Well, it wasn't a great joke, but she put it there, too. Or in Batman and Harley Quinn movie, not only she beats Nightwing in a one on one (Nightwing can give Bats a run for his money in a fight), but she also helps Batman and Nightwing discover the baddies plan, and later she "beats" Poison Ivy by "hitting" her "weakness" (so to speak everything I put into quotes), and gives Batman and Nightwing the solution common sense should have given them to beat Floronic Man. Now, I haven't seen this movie, so I don't know if she does this kind of things here (being intelligent about behaving like a loon) or not, I'm just saying that she is more than "being good at killing people and thriving in chaos"

Milton did the right thing: would you have asked him to stay behind and be executed for treason by the Army? The only proper course was the follow the "heroes" and hope and pray you wont die.

I feel like you really missed the point of Amanda Waller. She wasn’t a character, she was an overarching force of nature, existing to add stakes and consequences to the story, as well as tension. I mean, the only reason why her getting knocked out was so awesome was cause just before that she was going to kill all of the main characters, and it act felt like she WOULD cause, well, she already had, so it became an honest question wether or not they would die right then and there
@arandombard11973 жыл бұрын
I would argue it a little differently. The two-dimensional 'bad government agent' is literally usurped by the three dimensional humans, almost like a statement from Gunn about how you should write characters.
@judemartin63293 жыл бұрын
This is what's called a static character.
@kronosunleashed38453 жыл бұрын
@@arandombard1197 again tho, she isn’t supposed to be a character. She’s a force, something to author a rule that if they refuse her orders, she won’t hesitate to kill them without mercy. Humanising her would actually have been detrimental, as it would give the idea that maybe there IS a situation in which she wouldn’t kill them and therefore make us expect that such a situation will occur. When the group defies her and goes to fight Starro, that scene is so intense because as far as we know there is no reason Amanda Waller would ever not kill them in that situation. She’s 2 dimensional cause she’s not a person, she’s an obstacle, and yeah the other characters are better than her because of the same reason
@kronosunleashed38453 жыл бұрын
@@judemartin6329 that’s the term I was looking for, thanks. She is a Static Character, which isn’t at all a bad thing, as it means all the other character either have to overcome her or succumb to her. It adds more options to the story, and overall makes things more interesting

@@sarkastikcommander4555 Sorry, bro, but until WB releases the Ayers Cut, the movie we got is the movie we got and it was a poorly executed movie. Criticizing that isn't somehow a moot point just because we know there are other scenes on the cutting room floor. Besides that point, the scenes we got are terrible anyway. Giving Harley to some random gangster to sleep with? What kinda fake edgy crap is that? That has nothing to do with the characterization of the Joker or Harley Quinn. When Harley was introduced in a CARTOON, the Joker would throw her around for successfully capturing Batman and trying to remove his mask, or for over-explaining a joke. In the comics, Harley disappear for months in-story and when she returned, he was so engrossed in planning his latest scheme that he hadn't noticed she'd isolated from the crime world for a few months to GIVE BIRTH TO THEIR DAUGHTER. THAT'S Harley Quinn. That's the story we sympathized with and the woman we wanted to see saved from the Joker. I don't know what that "hubba hubba" bullshit was in that movie, but it wasn't Harley and Mr. J.
