"it doesn't have to make sense" is something I always struggle with when a lot of people see light so literal. that everything needs some sort of motivation, be it story wise or practically. sometimes it just looks better and the viewer just accepts it as looking good... even if it doesn't make sense in reality.

You bring these seemingly high budget commercials down to a human level. They seem achievable because of the way you explain to lesser resources folk. Great content.

Well, to be very honest... You are one of the Intelligent DP I have seen with so much clarity of thought. I admire the way you take shoot productions and plan the way you visualise them with the consent of your Director. Please keep making these videos and keep inspiring people like me living somewhere on this earth. In the end, I would just like to say that the way you explain everything in your videos reminds me of Master DP Roger Deakins. Please keep this attitude always and keep sharing the knowledge. Thank You.

"Profesh." Now that's a catchphrase that deserves to be on a T-shirt. Or a mug. Anyway, appreciate the breakdown! Would love to hear your thoughts on different types of diffusion. Grid cloth, muslin, etc. What kind of situations call for specific materials? Something along those lines.

Wow! Best behind the scenes I think I've ever felt breathtaking actually feeling breathtaking! I felt so many emotions watching this. So much that I hated to see it end! Absolutely stunning! I purchased two RED Komodo's and I hadn't really use them, so I haven't had the opportunity to see what they can actually do in a real professional production. I am so impressed! You sir, have made my day! Thank you!

As always, super interesting video! Quick question concerning the choice of white balance. You mentioned that you shot a scene quite blue 2800K (the bike in the dark tunnel) as you knew that you wanted a cold look in the final result. People always talk about the importance of having a correct white balance for shot matching, but I keep seeing amazing DPs going extra warm/cold intentionally. So my question is : when baking-in a colder/warmer look in camera, what’s your approach on shot matching? This video is a montage so it’s less problematic, but I’m pretty sure you also have those creative white balance on other types of projects too. Thank you for your insight, love your work!
@lewispotts
@lewispotts 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah like you said, it's a montage so it doesn't matter as much. But, If I was to have an unusual white balance on a scene with multiple shots id still just treat it the same as any scene and keep the same white balance throughout, and once the actor goes into a new room or space or you cut to something else you can change the white balance if needed, if nothing's matching, like outside daylight or something
