I don't know if you know it or not but Raimi invented a bunch of the camera techniques you see in the film. The technique used for the "first person demon cam" that chases Ash is incredibly simple for it's amazing effect. www.pinterest.com/pin/45317539972792165/

Original Ending should be on KZbin, it was on the VHS growing up and imo is better. He gets the book and is told to drink ten drops of a potion to sleep until he's in his present time. And as the audience you see Ash screwed up the count and took eleven drops not ten when counting and he sleeps too long. And ends up waking in the far future where everything is destroyed and barren. It was more comedic and in line with Ash being a co stant screw up, but the studio wanted a happier ending so he had the SMart scene at the end

This is literally my first time discovering that there was a different ending to this film than the one I saw (the one in which Ash "slept too long"). Suddenly, the premise of Ash vs. Evil Dead makes a whole lot more sense.
@davidhasselblad2898
@davidhasselblad2898 2 жыл бұрын
Well in the comics they sorta retcon that, saying that ash had gone through this process to get back home multiple times, dipping into the multiverse with Sam ramis approval 'kinda makes sense'. And that's why in ash v the evil Dead he is fuzzy on details because he can't fully remember which event or when that event happened, or if it even happened at all. So the confusion of events between movies is more like the movies are from ashes perspective. Not what fully happened but from what ash remembers how things went down. Sam Rami is a sly ol dog man.

Interesting thing about the plate mail hand, Rami found out about a real life historical figure Götz von Berlichingen who had his sword hand cut off during a siege and had it replaced with an actual iron hand which he could articulate by pushing the fingers in place with his left hand. This figure was also known as Götz of the Iron Hand and was also the inspiration for Berserk.

A bit of trivia about how low budget the first Evil Dead movie was: the skeletal handle of the dagger was literally made from dinner leftovers. The cast and crew went out and bought fried chicken for dinner one night, and the prop maker saved the bones and fashioned them into the handle.

I'm convinced that Bruce Campbell is not human... I believe he's a cartoon xDDD this movie... I watched it back in the day in a theater, it was great. It's not absolutely perfect (maybe it's too long), but there's some crazy entertaining parts, constant homages to old movies... the phrase 'Klaatu Barada Nikto' is a homage to The Day the Earth Stood Still, for instance, and the skeleton army is a homage to the wonders the late great Ray Harryhausen created in stop-motion. This wonderful movie became a classic in its own right

You just saw the theatrical version that had the good ending, when he returns to his own time. In the original ending, Ash accidently/clumsy take 7 drops instead of 6 drops from a magical potion so he can sleep through time and wake up in his own time. Because of this, he wakes up in a post apocalyptic future. Ash's line in that one; No...no... I SLEPT TO LONG! (Laughs maniacally). The test audience didn't like the original bad ending because they thought it was to depressing, so they had to make a new ending, which is the good theatrical ending. You can get a copy with the original bad ending, but there's also one on DVD and Blu Ray that has both of them, you can even youtube the bad ending and check it out for yourself =) You can also youtube the deleted scenes and a behind the scenes documentary called Medieval Times - The Making of Army of Darkness.

Army of Darkness was my favorite as it was my first of the series. Additionally, I was raised on Horror (Chucky and Hellraiser at 2yo), Raimi (Hercules/Xena), Rascals/Stooges (slapstick), Stallone (Rambo in particular) and Ray Harryhausen (Jason, Sinbad, Clash, etc. **less so Kong as I was more a Godzilla kid**). It had all the things I loved best. I can see why a Filmmaker would be most enamored with the original or how other fans would prefer the second (as I feel like that one is the only entry properly showing off what can be called a proper "Deadite"). My childhood ties into this genre (so an entry that ventures into another's territory gives it a chance to standout amonst the rest without my having to completely go outside that zone **as with Event Horizon for Sci-Fi**). Hell, my first memory of Moose Tracks ice cream is entirely tied to The People Under the Stairs (to a lesser extent, Phantasm). Before long I would encounter Duke (much to Bruce's chagrin) who apes his character (and steals his lines **even one from RRP**) to give me a DOOM alternative (Build Engine game) that takes itself less seriously (for me, DOOM is associated with Christmas). The music somewhat reminds of Conan. Said franchise is apparently linked to Lovecraft's mythos (which is the origin of the book itself **something my younger self wouldn't look into for a long while**). An easy choice for an elective 'Film' course (among other times I chose it for an essay **just so I had something I was actually interested in to talk about**). ED:AoD is just an important film for me (and my favorite **not just of the series**).

The magic phrase "klaatu barada nikto" is a reference to the 1951 sci-fi classic "The Daythe Earth Stood Still".

If you're a Bruce fan he had several shows in the 90s. A recurring character in Hercules, and Xena. Starred in the sci-fi western Brisco County Jr. and colonial exploration era Jack of All Trades. Im skipping over a bunch of equally great movies and stuff forward to the spy thriller Burn Notice, which is one of my favorite shows of all time, and his supporting/ starring role is perfect. Even if you don't react to them, they're all worth checking out... side note: Burn Notice would make for some good content for your channel with the constant cat and mouse & twists & whatnot. You could dedicate 1 day a week to Bruce Campbell and have content for years.

You need to watch Bubba Ho-Tep for another campy fun horror with the Chin (Bruce Campbell). Synopsis - After falling into a lengthy coma following a freak accident involving hip gyration, a now aged Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell) wakes up in an East Texas nursing home, where he befriends Jack (Ossie Davis), an African-American senior who claims to be President John F. Kennedy. After residents of their quiet retirement community start dying of dubiously unnatural causes, Elvis and Jack discover that the perpetrator is Bubba Ho-Tep (Bob Ivy), an Egyptian mummy with murderous intentions.

The Evil Dead trilogy has such an interesting evolution from straight horror in the first one, to a horror comedy in the second and a flat out action comedy by the time it hits Army of Darkness. Have to agree with you that the first is my favorite, just from a creativity standpoint, but I love Bruce Campbell's smarmy, assholish charm that is much more prevalent in the second and especially the third film

One of the best American isekais. I love how slapstick Raimi and Campbell get in this one, and all of Ash's quips are on point. I also love all the adr deadites and the comedic foley work in the 3rd act. If you didn't know, the Klaatu Verata Nikto line is from The Day The Earth Stood Still (the original). A classic. Also, did you catch the Bridget Fonda cameo in the ED2 recap as a recast Linda?

Another Sam Rami film from that era that probably helped him get the Spiderman job was a film called Darkman, which stars Liam Neeson in one of his earlier starring roles. There is also a very brief cameo of Bruce Campbell in that one.

The make up in Darkman is second to none. You have a hero that looks horribly disfigured is great stuff. I feel like today we have to make the hero sexy enough to get the girl, which is BS. Hell, even in the Robocop remake they are pushing it so Robo is going to end up with the girl! He was basically Ironman who can't take his suite off. doesn't have the same impact as the 1987 classic where Murphy looks gross when he removes his helmet.

Fun fact the car Ash drives is Sam Raimi's personal car and he has it in all his films, for example it was uncle Ben's car in the spider man films

I think the more people you poll the more it's going to skew to Evil Dead II. AoD has a huge fan base but many consider Evil Dead II to be one of the greatest horror films (horror / comedy) ever made.

They weren't using green screens when this movie was made. Green screen is used in digital compositing. It would have been blue screens with an optical printer to complete the composite. That's why in the Christopher Reeves Superman film, his suit was green instead of blue.

"Shout out to the stunt double" Oh, Bruce never had a stunt double. Sam's motto was "Hit him again. Harder. He likes it." 😂 But no one ever hit him hard enough for Sam's liking, so when you see Bruce getting whacked by someone who's not on screen, or someone off screen throws dirt in his face, that someone is absolutely Sam Raimi.
