Great tutorial. Only issue I found when actually doing this is there are two more 8mm bolts on the left side holding that dumb bracket in place. You cannot simply remove the 10mm bolt and "pivot" the bracket with the remaining two 8mm bolts. They both must be removed, and the entire bracket will fall to the floor. I was also putting in an aftermarket stereo at the time so I found it easier to just do it when the entire instrument garnish was removed giving easy access to the two 8mm bolts, but did Honda not think anyone would ever replace these? My wife bought this car used as a beater, and I swear that was the original filter! On the bright side though, the ac still works even through a 20 year old crudded up filter. But it will be so much better now with a clean filter. Plus there was 20 years of disgusting debris, leaves etc in the housing area under where the filter sits. I really don't get the design thought by Honda on this. A cabin air filter replacement should be an easy one minute job right behind the glove box, not something where you need to remove trim, brackets and bolts.

99 CRV: There is one 10mm and 2 8mm bolts on each side. All must be removed. The bar is held in place with a tab on the left hand side and does not pivot down. If you have tiny hands and a long 8mm wrench you'll be able to get the left ones out without removing the center console trim, which is a PITA.

Same for a ‘01 CRV. Lucky for me, the previous owner bent to left tab out so loosening both left side bolts allowed me to pivot the bar down. But why did Honda design it this way in the first place? In my old 05 civic, the filter went in flat.

I finally did this on my '01 CRV, but I ended up bending the hell out of the left tab, lost one of the 8mm bolts, then found it again after I put it all back together. I don't think my cabin filter has ever been changed until now, and this is why.

Thank you! I was told by some ignorant mechanics that my C-RV model and year did not have a cabin air filter when I asked them to change it. They were dead wrong.

Smaller one is 8 mm and larger one is 10mm if you remove the smaller one it's a bear to put back on,but must be removed in order to lower the bar.

How often should the cabin filter be replaced and why?
@filterheads7 жыл бұрын
You should replace your cabin air filter once a year or every 15,000 miles. A dirty cabin air filter filter could be filled with debris like leaves, pollen, and dust. If you live in an area with a lot of smog or around a lot of trees you might want to consider replacing it more often because you'll have more debris that may clog up the filter. Stale odors can also be caused by a dirty cabin air filters.

What is the benefit of a cabin air filter. I'm guessing it filters the cabins air. Great video Thank you

Ya. Its really a good idea. Sometimes it will not even blow. If not changed. Blows Beuttifull fresh air. And filters. Outside air. Dust. And so on.

@@filterheadsor if you buy a used 97 crv from some pothead like we did a new cabin filter is a must. Looked like a brownish yellow carpet and thick with probably original filter. No wonder the AC barely blew. Much better now.

I attempted this, but when I loosened the last 10m screw it still didn't drop the bar low enough to access the filter

Actually all I needed to do was loosen all three screws on that side of the bar to get enough wiggle room to lower it down past filter thanks for your help. Great video
