38:02 something I realized while watching your other reviews of the sequels: the constant reference to 180. Six months is also roughly 180 days. So when the movie states Six Months Later, it’s most likely making yet another 180 reference, being so open but hidden about it at the same time

Throughout these movies, I wonder who/what is feeding these poor people these premonitions? If we can look outside of death being this horrible killer that's stalking these people wanting to take them out in gruesome painful ways, who is telling these people how they are going to die? Is it another death who is trying to keep these characters alive? Is it a singular death who delights in tormenting these poor souls with trying to escape him? Or is it a personification of life that is fighting against death to claim these people in horrible ways? What is the force that keeps these characters a mental step ahead of death when the plot suits them?
@DistractedGlobeGuy
@DistractedGlobeGuy 3 жыл бұрын
The sequels (and even moreso the spin-off novels and comic book series) lean into the implication that there's just one Death, but that the people in the movies were never supposed to die in the initial accidents, because they needed to set up later events that will end up killing other people, so Death sent them premonitions to get them out of their immediate danger and put them back on the paths originally intended for them.

The 5th film’s ending doesn’t work. FD1 clearly takes place in 2000 with the hairstyles and clothing styles and period proper technology. The 5th film looks like a modern day movie with the clothing and hair yet still take place in the 90’s? Lazy and unconvincing. None of the actors looked or acted like they were in the 90’s. Neat idea but poor execution. akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2011711/425.fd5.ls.081111.jpg?fit=around%7C425:auto&output-quality=90&crop=425:auto;center,top What about those clothes or those hairstyles convinces you this takes place BEFORE FD1?
@edisonlima4647
@edisonlima4647 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffn4836 I would agree that the Idea was cool but the execution lacking. It would have being easy tô make the history take place in a smalltown and have the characters wearing the kind of plain clothing that can pass easily for most time periods. Like, the Smallvile and Gotham tv shows went their first bunch of seasons like that, playing it mostly without establishing an exact time period by having people dressed in plainer clothing and having older cars.

I went into this movie completely blind. When it first came out my best friend had told me she wanted to go see it, and so I figured eh, it's way to kill an evening at least. Sitting down in the theater I had no clue what the movie was even about, only that it was supposed to be a horror movie with Devon Sawa. Since the teen slasher genre was still going strong at the time, I just figured I was in for more of the same, so when the plane first explodes in Alex's vision and then a minute later for real, I was left completely stunned. It was so out-of-nowhere (if you didn't know what foreshadowing to look for, which I didn't, obviously) and so intense it just grabbed my attention immediately. Unfortunately the rest of the movie never really topped that opening, though to be fair I don't know how it *could* have, but that's not to say it was bad at all. It was really damn good, actually, and kept me invested and guessing the whole time, plus the premise was something I'd never seen before in any other film; the villain wasn't a some ghost or monster or supernatural demon, it was death *itself,* and I *still* think that was a bloody brilliant concept. The sequels were hit-and-miss for me and the deaths started to feel more and more like Rube Goldberg setups in a Tom & Jerry cartoon, but I'll never forget how blown away I was by the first FD.

This was an awesome review for a movie that I'm surprised you guys havent done yet. I didnt know about the original ending, only seen the theatrical ending, but Iain's point about how the studio should keep Alex and we know that Carter dies and Alex doesnt so he could be in sequels--the studio didnt want Alex that bad after his drug scandal in the early 2000's. The series kills Alex of in between the first and second by a newspaper clipping stating that a brick fell off a building and killed Alex as it struck his head. The newspapers are clipped in Clear's padded cell in the second film. So since they didnt even keep Alex, maybe the original ending would've been more appropriate, but the unstoppable forced of Death still trumps the original ending for me

For some bizarre reason I have a soft spot for this movie, despite only having seen it once in my life (when it was new-ish). Glad to hear people actually consider it a decent film. Isn't there some sort of sub-category of teen-horror-films that would include stuff like this and The Faculty?
@NostalgiaBrit
@NostalgiaBrit 3 жыл бұрын
The BIGGEST question that I took away from this film, is that, if they were meant to die (and Death was pissed that they didn't), who/what gave Alex the vision? If it was God, surely God would tell Death to leave them alone! Or is Alex just randomly, suddenly psychic? OR… Were those 7 actually not meant to die on the plane, and in fact Death itself gave Alex the vision, in order to get those 7 people to where they need to be when they're actually supposed to die? Like, the teacher was always meant to die in her home over a month later, so Death engineered events to make sure it happened (and the same for all the other characters' deaths)?
@DistractedGlobeGuy
@DistractedGlobeGuy 3 жыл бұрын
The sequels and spin-offs mostly lean into that third idea, that the characters needed to die later and have their deaths set in motion other events that would kill (or spare) others. The first novel (which picks up immediately after the first movie and leads directly into the second) basically does everything short of having Bludworth just come right out and say exactly that.

That whole scenario about Death forgetting the plane crash for a month and then getting pissed off when he remembers the survivors might be one of the funniest things I've ever heard. At the begining of the millenium there was a desinterest for the horror genere, and then this movie came out with innovative concepts mixing the slasher with the supernatural to became soon a new horror franchise, producers and director made a great job with screenplay and production and the casting sell well to be involved in that situation, is very good in presenting this entity that control everything and get you kill no matter what, and you as an espectator can relate to that and feel the uncertainty of death and that is what make this franchise so appealing

I never knew about the original ending but I actually would've been ok with that. If you can't escape death then what's the point? You'd have to live in an asylum like Clare does in part 2. Also the water going back into the toilet was always weird to me. It looked like a suicide was death seriously concerned about it being labeled a freak accident cause it might actually give credence Alex's theory? Also after 5 films the world of Final Destination everybody should just have common knowledge of Deaths plan. I liked that in part 2 all the characters had ties to the original cast and death was working backwards to tie up loose ends it just took him a few years.
