Heheh, fun fact: you can take that first Zolom down and get Beta in the same stroke. You just have to get that early enemy skill materia, get Matra Magic, and use it to help Aerith get her kill count high enough to get her penultimate limit break. I think it's called Protector of the Earth or something like that. It's one of the few things that grant the "Peerless" status, which pretty much makes the whole team invincible and immune to the Zolom's annoying ability to kick someone out of the fight. Then you just wait for it to use Beta so you can get it, then beat the snake down. It's a bit grindy, but turns Aerith into a bit of a beast, making it a bit more reasonable of a concept for her to go up against Sephiroth. Bonus points if you go into that scene with a full limit bar on Cloud so you can one-shot the poor Jenova-spawn the dork leaves behind with Omnislash.

Raul Rojas Canonically, no FF7 characters are stronger than Sephiroth, he loses to Cloud because his arrogance causes him to lower his guard. In Reunion Files, the film makers talk about how they wrote his dialogue calm & even in contrast to Cloud's exhaustion with the fight to communicate this.

@TheLithp Well, that depends how you define "strong." I'd say Cloud is stronger than Sephiroth at the end of Advent Children (at the end he's fighting Sephiroth one-on-one in comparison to the team-battle at the end of FF7). Why? Cloud is responsible for defeating Sephiroth at Nibelheim (alone before Soldier), at end of FF7 (with help), and in Advent Children (alone). That's not even counting the Sephiroth Aspects he beats. Sephiroth defeats Cloud mentally partway through, causing an identity collapse, so, if we're generous, that's Cloud: 3, Sephiroth: 1. In terms of raw physical capabilities, yes, Sephiroth is untouchable because he was infused with Jenova cells at birth, whereas Soldiers are showered in Mako as adults. In short, Sephiroth is essentially tireless without peer in terms of speed, reflex, magical ability, physical strength, toughness and precision. This is why Sephiroth is (when you think about it) a terrifying villain. He has all the cards. If anything, the fact that Cloud has bested him 3 times (guard let down or no) speaks all the more highly of Cloud as a combatant.

As a result of having seen Advent Children, I've never been optimistic about an FF7 remake, irrespective of expecting mediocrity in terms of execution. The abstract nature of FF7 allows players a fair bit of room to interpret characters, scenes, interactions to their liking. If the game is remade with those blanks filled in, inevitably there will be people feeling it sells short their preferred/ideal subtexts and subjective aspects. It would take quite monumental effort and vision for a remake to turn out better than adequate.

I have mixed feelings on the remake honestly. On the One hand there's Crisis Core, which was mostly great (except Genesis....fuck Genesis) and shows that there is still a chance they can do a remake of FFVII justice. On the other hand....we also have Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. Advent children was fun enough to watch, but it added nothing to the story as a whole and served to make our victory at the end of FFVII feel hollow. All that work to kill Sephiroth, only to find out that death is just a minor inconvenience for him and he can resurrect himself any number of times. Dirge was just plain bad. The best parts of that game were the more detailed flashbacks to Vincent's past that were already covered in the original game. When the best parts of a new game are the call back moments to events we've already seen in previous games....there's a serious problem there. Honestly I'm not too bothered by the transition to action combat. I'll miss the turn based mechanics, but I also like action RPGs and the combat shown in the footage at least looks fun to play. My main worry is with the story and characters. If they remain faithful to the tone of the original game, keeping the more lighthearted moments while also elaborating on characters and plot points that didn't get enough development in the original due to time and storage space issues, then that will be fantastic. My worry though is that the remake will feel a little too much like Advent Children and not enough like the original FFVII. I'm especially worried for Cloud. I understood why he was super depressed in Advent Children and it worked fine in that movie, but he's kept that stick in the mud personality ever since. He was a much more interesting, varied and likable character in the original.

LOL Yeah that thing is hell, I think it has like 8000-9000 in health and every attack deals like 700-2000 in damage (unless you are above like LV 30) and you do not even reach a 1000 in health til you are at LV 25 or something, not to mention that the enemies at this place is like at LV 5-10 so you get so fucking little in EXP that you barely go up a LV after two days of fighting enemies to try to get a chocobo (I forgot to equip it for 2 days, can you imagine how furious I had gotten over the game about not finding in a chocobo, seriously it felt like I was on the brink of throwing the PS out of my window) so I can totally relate to Clouds anger and awkward stupidity at that part
