One thing I noticed is that it's established almost immediatly how scary & indiscriminate the Eikons' powers are. Both Titan stepping on his own allies and Ifrit vaporizing Lord Commander Murdoch demonstrate that both clearly and effectively.

@@progenlock7785 That is what I thought at first, but upon rewatch, I noticed that they have a specific camera effect for when someone is looking at the world from inside an Eikon, and voice modulation also. Since they never showed Clive after the Fire EIkon appeared, I think he was forcibly transformed and trapped inside, made to watch as his body beat his brother to death without him able to stop it. A true nightmare scenario as one of the greatest human psychological fears is being trapped inside your own body.

Interesting tidbit I noticed. The two handmaidens being killed. If you remember back when you were exploring the castle, she threatened them with *exactly that* if Joshua were to come to harm. It was foreshadowing done well. Joshua died so she killed them, it's not like they weren't warned.

There is something deeply satisfying about Jesse not talking for a long moment and just getting pulled into the game. I look up at his camera and he is just sitting back with a little smile on his face. I find his love and appreciation for good games so infectious.

I like that this confirms certain details about the Eikons' eyes. When Joshua first became the Phoenix in the prologue and he's acting completely out of fear because he lost control, his eyes were amber. During the fight, however, he regained lucidity after going through the Apodytery and realizing there should only be one Eikon of Fire, his eyes became blue. This is a consistent detail on all Eikons we've seen so far, and from what we've seen in previous trailers, several Eikons have been shown with blue or amber eyes. It seems many Dominants, throughout the story, will lose control at one point or the other. I think the only ones we haven't seen with amber eyes yet are Shiva, Ramuh and Odin.

Hey Jesse, wanted to give you a little extra insight because it is subtly explained in the demo but it's easy to miss, and I think you might have missed it. The people with the face tattoos are called Bearers. Bearers are people who are born with the ability to use magic without the assistance of crystals, but are not themselves Dominants. Every child is tested at birth to see if they're a Bearer; if they are, they are branded with that mark so it will be known by everyone they come into contact with for their entire life. While you might expect them to be in elevated positions in society, the opposite is actually true. They're traditionally used as slaves, as doing so allows people to save crystals on tasks that may have otherwise needed them. Using bearers as slaves is effectively like having infinite crystals. When you were walking around the castle and courtyard talking about the use of crystals, the laborers who were doing magic were not actually using crystals. They were Bearers, and they were doing slave labor with their magic abilities. The implication is that the duchess had Clive branded after everything went down, as he is able to use magic without crystals. It was a means to solidify the severing of his royal roots, making him a nobody frontline soldier who's also "sub-human" as a Bearer. So that no one will wonder who this guy is, where he came from, or what his story is, and it should never be a problem for her again. I think at this point it's unclear what exactly Clive's connection is with Ifrit; he will almost certainly become a Dominant at some point, but even if he already is one, it seems he doesn't even fully realize or understand that himself yet. If he does, he doesn't seem to know how to control his Dominant powers anyway. So, at least for the time being, he has to roll with the punches and live life as a Bearer slave. I just wanted to point this out, as I think it's all going to be very important and relevant to the plot of the game. It's important that people catch this and understand what it all means. So excited for this game man, thanks for this video Jesse. I sent it to my friend who loves Final Fantasy but doesn't have a PS5, nor intends to get one. Basically told him "at least watch a playthrough, it'll be worth it. This guy does a good job of explaining things since he's already seen a lot of this."

From what I've seen (can't afford a PS5, likely will never be able to get my PC up to spec for this for the inevitable PC port), you can feel XIV's bones in this. The fights have telegraphs, making it easy to react, and if you lose, you can try again and you'll have that knowledge from the failed attempt to go back in and go "okay this is X attack, I need to do Y to survive it" and do it and feel awesome about doing it. Looking forward to watching full game play throughs of this when the full thing comes out.

Just finished the demo myself after watching Jesse stream yesterday. I have some thoughts: Only time i dropped frames was during the Eikon battle You can really tell XVI is different from every other final fantasy in many ways, Even 14 and 15, 16 just immediately feels unique and is truely an action-RPG. Of course we have yet to see all of its systems and mechanics but I do wonder how the gearing and more RPG elements will feel. So far it feels very linear/contained, kinda Crisis Core or God of War like, I expect it will open up more later on but the first level felt very straight-forward action game. Soken is a golden god as always. It seems the game was meant to be played in English as I used the JP dub and it was good but seemed a bit unnatural unlike other FF titles. I've been keeping up with all the theories so far but the story seems really interesting and darker so far, sometimes it can be a bit confusing when they hit you with a lot of new names and backstory but I expect to learn about most of that. Really excited, it was a lot fun, I don't know if it's my favourite setting but I enjoy every FF and hopefully this will also be a great experience!

Older games let out minds do most of the horror blood and guts but now the games are like no we got this covered and as they are now sowing us the guts that was there before they have to get the “”warnings”” that of course most parents will completely ignore because “”games are for kids”” have you looked at the story’s for silent hill or fatal frame?

ATL is a HUGE thing for RPG games. I really enjoy it, and I hope that on full game, we can link stuff to a compendium of sorts. I really like that. Cute fact about the game, is that some of that information really gives more insight on stuff: When Wade talks to Joshua: "I don't know if you remember me...", it has a whole different meaning when using ATL, because through ATL you learn that Wade was once saved by Joshua when he got in an accident involving a woodpile, and he's basically the reason why Wade became a shield. Also, the information changes with time! God, I just finished the demo and I can hardly wait for more!

I really love this story so far. This might be in the running for best story of any FF game just from this demo. I know this is kind of a Game of Thrones rip off, but it is very rich in its own lore and still enough FF references to make it all work. That is why I loved Game of Thrones so much (minus the ending) because of how detailed and how immersed you were in the world of that series. This is exactly the kind of rich detail all final fantasy game need, in my opinion, to make a perfect RPG/Fantasy game. I really hope we get to see you play the whole game. I'm a PC gamer so it looks like I'll be waiting some time before I get to play as in, I don't own a PS5 nor feel the need to buy one just for that game. Anyways to recap, I'm really excited to see how the rest of the story unfolds.

I see that comparison a lot. A game of throne rip off. I think people who are not familiar with Asian dynasties have no idea what true cruelty is. You will see that game of throne is a kindergarten story full of love and kindness. This shows that people in west have no idea about how cruel the past was in Asia. If you think Joeffrey Barton or something was cruel lmao... Try to read how the mongols punished leaders. Or if you think that the red wedding was shocking, try to read the bloodbath that ensued when a dynasty ends. Think the whole clan of tens of thousands being dismembered.

God, the facial animation on Benedikta in particular is amazing. It’s so well done I’m actually a little stunned. The mouths even move way more naturally than I expected! This game is beautiful, both in cutscenes and regular gameplay. Love the bits of the XIV battle system that made its way over :) painful way to end the demo but can’t wait for more.

Some people are complaining about the Eikon battle at the beginning, how it’s just pressing one button to attack and dodge. The best way to see it is that it’s more like an interactive cutscene that’s allows the player to put there perspective as the eikon. Also this is ver 1.01, the final version is 1.03, so if people have any issues with performance it will be ironed out on release, because people have been bitching about staggering or frame drops, I personally had no issues with the game, I think people are just nitpicking.

Holy shit, this really IS Game of Thrones. Jon Snow, Arya, Theon, Cat Stark. I'm about an hour in and, wow, the way Clive's mom, Cat Stark, treats Clive is just... on point. I knew next to nothing about this game until this week (loongtime FF fan, just sorta fell off everything at around 13), checking out the coverage, and this is superb. The in game lore compendium seems so, so damn good! I remember really liking the original Mass Effect codex for worldbuilding, but this thing is a step above. Between this, God of War: Rag, and the Demon's Souls remake, I may finally have enough reasons to consider buyinh a PS5 (would still prefer PC ports, but hey). Thanks for the demo coversage, Jesse! Is there a codex like other games? Whilst I like the active lore system, I'm also the guy who wants to read every codex update given. With active lore I feel like I'd be constantly worried I'd missed some extra background information because the game doesn't give alerts about when new info is given. If they both exist together then that's perfect.

Fun fact: Apart from some monsters like the Morbol there is little to no connection between numbered Final Fantasy games. The FFXVI universe is new for everybody (including the messenger owls) and you don't need any knowledge of previous titles in the series to understand the story or world.

This is the longest demo I've ever played! I am not into the RPG genre in general, expecially the turn-based ones but this game seems to be more focused on action which I like. It''s the 3rd Final Fantasy demo I played after 15 and 7 remake without buying the full game, but this might change soon.

36:35 good to see Jesse still loot hungry in ff games. Didnt see it as much in FF14. Likely due to the amount loot you get in FF14 is titantic.
