Years after my daughter's children were grown their little boots still stood upside down on the outside boot holder. Over time it became yard art.

You need a boot/shoe scraper down at the bottom of the steps to scrape off before you get up to the top

You did a great job, Sam. I like the idea that it's attached and not sitting on "feet". Angela can still sweep the porch & not have to chase the boot rack around.

The OGs are always "still here" and we all need a good lesson on "boot rackology!" (Plus, we have to watch the whole video to get to the best part: the bloopers! Even though there weren't bloopers on this one...rats!) Muddy boots never had it so nice is right. Great job, Sam. So great to see you guys again. Take care!

Good job. When I lived in a mud bog and I had to deal with mud, horse manure, chicken ick and other farm ickiness, I kept a big bucket of water at the foot of the steps to wash my boots off before I came up the porch and kicked them off, our porch was covered though, the water was used after to water the flowers or bushes. Worked great.

Nice project! The only thing I might have done differently is to make the 2x4s a darker color because they will get pretty dirty and I might have placed it on the other side of the railing because when it rains they will drain off on the ground and not on the deck making more of a mess.

As someone suggested, a boot scraper. Plus a washer at the bottom of the steps. I remember in the UK a washer was a small trough with stiff broom heads fixed to two long insides. Scrape the mud off the boots, then put your foot in the trough and with a quick brush backwards and forwards. Bob's your uncle.

Have a suggestion. Put a little roof over the boots at the top of your railing. Tilt the roof backwards so the water doesn't run on the deck. It will protect the wood also.

Your boot rack turned out really nice. One thing I would have changed would be to mount it on the opposite side of the ballesteros so that if it was raining, the mud would drip off on the ground side, not the porch side.

I built a simplified version of this several years ago using a spare piece of 4x4 and old broom handles cut up. I put a couple of cross pieces under the 4x4 to keep it upright as it stood on the ground. I only got rid of it a few months ago as I wasn't using it and no one in the family wanted it. Hi from Australia.

You have solved a problems and given other ideas. You can fill your boots with crinkled newspaper and that will keep bugs from going to the toe were you can’t see them. If u want them to stand up cut a pool noodle to fit and stuff paper on the inside between the boot & the noodle. Good job u two.

Now a MUST-HAVE is to put a boot scraper at the BOTTOM of the steps before you go up to that landing. This will save you a TON of work cleaning up mud. If the boots are wet-muddy you might put a narrow tray in front of the peg-board to catch the runoff.

And at the end of “boot” season it doubles as a wash rack as you can just spray them down with the hose. As far as the workshop catastrophe, I know how you feel Sam I have one too. With the combo of remodeling in the mobile mansion and that Christmas just happened (store the decorations in there) things are scattered everywhere. Thankfully I was blessed with a better half that understands why it’s practical to keep the tools I’ll be using for awhile in the house.

Growing up partly at my grand parents farm we had a scraper by the back porch. It was basically a metal strip that was welded to the base of a round metal bar that you could hold on to. That bar was essentially a U shape the metal scraper filling in the top. The U was left longer to stake it in the ground. It worked great to clean shoes. My guess is it’s still there on that farm.
