This episode was great, loved the puppets & acting segments. Super side note: I love how comfortable Erik is becoming with each episode, it's so cool to watch. He's coming up with segments, saving things just to discuss on the podcast, cracking jokes, even helping out with ads. First episode Erik would NEVER 🤣 it actually warms my heart to know that he feels comfortable enough, to be more himself.

As a person who majored in psychology, and a majority of my friends are therapists I can help add some insight into people who major in psych: we are all mentally ill. If you think your therapist has good mental health they either a) don’t b) have worked for YEARS to improve/take care of their mental health. So yes we do want to help others but Erik kinda hit it on the nose that we do a lot of introspection.

it definitely is a blanket statement - but returning to the perspective of a psych major (myself) - this is accurate. in all of my psych classes, the people who are incredibly interested in topics are the ones with mental illness who relate personally and come at the topics with a desire to understand themselves and others even better, myself included. the ones who dont have mental illnesses in these classes are typically the ones taking these courses as electives. to be more specific, psych majors who dont experience their own mental illnesses are most likely those who pursue a research path (which is more like a pre-med path), and those who do take psych courses on an applied path with the intention of doing things like counselling. so yes, not *entirely* true, but from personal experience this is, for the most part, incredibly accurate.

People do get into the field because they want to help people, but that desire to help others came about because they were suffering and needed help. Also omg the drama amongst “healer” types… even and especially at top level…you have no idea.
