@@LaVaneBea honestly cabinets are such a pain in the ass. Usually when we see youtubers do it they cut a TON of corners. It is so much more work than priming and painting. Rachel Metz did her cabinets and it’s a great tutorial of how to actually do it right- and she is literally the diy queen and halfway through was like “I will never do this again”

There’s a weight under the sink that keeps the faucet line inside the faucet. You can adjust it to fix it from drooping. Just a quick tip for people who have that type of faucet!

I was about to comment this too! 🙂 you can add extra weights to the hose if it's a bit older and not sliding back as quick. I feel like its a common misconceptions that those faucets are magnetic or something.

Btw: There's a really good reason why range hoods are usually made from materials like metal and glass. They're not flammable. MDF and dry wall on the other hand are. There's lots of old grease in a range hood, so when you have a kitchen fire, it gets really hot really fast. Good luck to you. Stay safe.
@shanny1952

I love this makeover except the range hood. Makes me nervous to have dry wall with the heat, grease, etc. Also it's too bulky. When she took off the glass, that was nice, but the metal was better than the bland protruding black wall. Maybe a fake stone "chimney" would be more interesting?

You're just naturally gifted! The stone backsplash was the perfect upgrade to give the room a natural earthy quality. Their rounded shapes & shades of blush contribute a slight feminine influence. The cabinet color increased the brightness & expanded the impression of the room's size. The creamy beige undertones reflect warmth & compliment the dark elements. Hiring a professional painting service was a wise decision. It's the most valuable part of the project & worth the splurge to invest in quality. You have an intuitive eye for design projects. Modifying the ranger hood & putting glass in 2 door panels was a huge improvement. It gave the room a statement focal point & completely updated the style. Making the 2 small book shelves & peg rack are subtle additions that impact the space with charming visual interest. A comparison of changes in the before & after is most impressive. Every detail serves a purpose. The overall composition is on point, it's balanced to scale, the contrast of the color palette is classic & the juxtaposition of textures is perfect. The finished look fits the space perfectly, it's up to date with current design trends & has a sophisticated, elegant appeal that suits your vibe!

The fire rating for regular half inch drywall is one half hour. 5/8inch would be an hour or more for x type. Drywall is actually pretty fire resistant. Besides the wall the range hood is up against and goes through to the outside is.. drywall lol

I'd love to know how that stove hood cover holds up. Can you actually scrub the grease and grime off of it? I personally think it would have been beautiful if you had extended the backsplash up the wall behind the stove hood. I'd also paint the inside of the cabinets with the glass doors black or a different accent color.
@nadjak3410

It all depends on the Quality of paint imo. If you use REALLY high Quality paint (and primer) you could really scrub this down with soap water without damaging anything.

Professional drywall finisher here! We call the "all-purpose drywall/joint compound" mud. Like, "hey, could you scoop me some more mud?" And for the corner bead, it's not really to protect corners? When drywall (aka sheetrock) is put up on an outward corner, like your new vent hood, the ends of the sheets create a little gap where they meet. The corner bead is put on to make the corner look smoother, and you would *never* forego corner bead. The part that's metal is because it's a material that won't be soaked with wet mud and sink/bubble into the gap as mentioned before. The paper flaps are specific to that type of bead so that you're able to apply mud on the sheetrock and then put on the corner bead. There's another type of corner bead that's just metal and you have to staple it onto the sheetrocked corner, it's much more difficult than the paper/metal type. And as a tip, if your mud is too thick to use, just mix it in with a little water to make it a "thinner" consistency and have it apply smoother. It's a lot easier on the wrists. And ten layers of mud?? Oh no no no. You really just need three layers, maybe four for touch-ups. But the vent hood looks great! You did a great job with the kitchen! :)

Wow Becky! Amazing job. A steep learning curve, I'm sure. I think my fave part is the backsplash. 🤩 Enjoy your new space, and making a bunch of new memories in it.

It looks so good! I think black was the right choice. If it were my kitchen, I think I’d paint the insides of the open cabinets white. The natural wood doesn’t look bad, but IMO it doesn’t look right? Idk lol.

Wow, that is just STUNNING!!! I'm so glad you went with the black. Your cabinets under the window were such a great idea too. So much storage space. The extra lighting was brilliant and you did it with out hard wiring. Girl, It looks so beautiful. Well done again.

It looks so good! Great job. Idk Canada's requirements/codes, but I think that outlet under the sink needs to be changed to a GFCI outlet for safety.

Hopefully, the GFCI may be at the main panel. The plug is for a garburator. But that's a weird plug, I had on in the basement in my last home.

Yes you’re right, in Canada it has to be a GFCI outlet

@@traceyc130 I think the plug was for the “instant hot” heater that was connected to the spout she removed as well.

@@NitrosMom074 @Kimmie B the mechanics under the sink looks like the small tap is for a water filtration system similar to one I put in in a former home. You usually only need electricity if you're using an uv light for bacteria (used for water from wells). Either way there should have a GFCI on the line.

I just started watching your videos yesterday and I'm a huge fan already! Becky, your personality is so human idk how else to describe it lol genuine? It's not the over the top super excited KZbinr personality like they took all my adderall lol it's rather funny/quirky (in a good way) and exciting, but calming enough for my neurodivergent brain to enjoy! Also, I'm moving into a new place soon and am loving these ideas! big hugs!

So glad she went with black for the extractor cover... all that white looked a little 'basic hotel kitchenette' & the black made it look like a much more interesting & deliberate design choice :)

Huge difference! I really love the cupboards and everything but don't love the shape of the hood with the cupboards and crown molding. Like another commenter said, it also seems like a fire hazard to have that there. I'd take it out and replace with metal like the dishwasher, just something more fitting.

Wowww! amazing Becky! the stone tiles are beautiful and really work so lovely with the colours and tones of the room. Glad you went for the Black hood the white stood out in a too bright way against the cabinets. I think this might be the most impressive Diy so far
