The boys and I are looking for amazing gemstones on our favorite beach along the Bay of Fundy, right after tropical storm Elsa passed through, to see if any new rocks were overturned. I'd say there were because we found some amazing gemstones, agate, opal, jasper, amethyst just to name a few! Come join us on this epic rockhounding adventure to see what amazing treasures we find!

Wow! Just started watching your channel. 😃 I've been collecting gems for many years, and have been recently researching types. Have you been to Moose Island??? I urge you to make a weekend camping trip there one day. Multiply the finds on five islands provincial park beach by a million! We've gone by foot, during extreme tides, and the water is ankle deep. There is a preferred way to cross to avoid muck to your knees😉

@RockhoundingLife 3 жыл бұрын
It's local terminology. Its essentially a plume agate with bits of opal included. People call it that because the color play of common opal white and the navy blue chalcedony reminds people of the old porcelain dishes from back in the day.

The jasper opal agate you cut with the orange center. How do you think that formed? Please don’t tell me a gas pocket. The rock is completely differentiated. Can you imagine something glass like getting that hard and solid by slow cold infusion into a vug. That took heat to create. The heat equal to that of a forge or kiln or greater.
@RockhoundingLife
@RockhoundingLife 3 жыл бұрын
Not only heat...but pressure as well. The amount of heat and pressure dictates which minerals precipitate out of solution.
@doctorofart
@doctorofart 3 жыл бұрын
@@RockhoundingLife according to the books. But it makes no sense to me. Agree to disagree. Those were under no pressure, in fact quite the opposite. Rock formation is dictated by heat, velocity, conditions surrounding the rock, their neighbors, and who they run into or across, collisions, cooling too fast, how deep the material was blown out from into free space, crystal habit, folding habit, and how it landed. Prove me wrong (:
@doctorofart

@@RockhoundingLife btw, incredible finds and I like how you followed the tide to have wet rocks to look at.
@RockhoundingLife
@RockhoundingLife 3 жыл бұрын
@@doctorofart Some rocks can't form without pressure. It's probably the most important variable. That and temp. When it comes to agates forming inside a basalt pocket it's very important. Concentric banding in an agate is achieved from the nodule being under immense pressure, so much so that gravity is defied. If no pressure then you see waterline banding where the fluid settled with gravity. There is a great video on KZbin explaining this concept that I think you would benefit from. It's by a channel called Georocknerd. I'll try to link it here for you.
