I remember creating a Barbarian with A LOT of mana / life steal (he used a Mjolnir with six perfect skulls socketed to it) that could spam Whirlwind indefinitely and would mow down groups of enemies in no time. He had four weakness: - No life / mana steal from skeletons or ghosts: more a nuisance than anything, just had to carry mana potions. - Imune to Physical enemies: in Hell difficulty, this meant ghosts and some unique enemies. I could use Berserk for magic damage, but it wasn't worth the time and I just ignored them. Arcane Sanctuary would be impossible in Hell without using Leap / Leap Attack. Just be careful because, as you run from ghosts, they tend to occupy the same space and you might be attacked by all of them at once if close enough, dealing massive and potentially lethal damage (ask me how I know...) - Multiple Shot unique enemies: even with high elemental resistances, the fact that you are always so close to the enemy, it meant that almost all five (?) projectiles hit you for massive damage. - Thorns / Iron Maiden: being cursed with this mid Whirlwind attack usually meant insta death, since you can't use potions while you hack away a mob and received back the damage you were dealing. Edit.: I've been informed that, since v1.11, Oblivion Knights could no longer cast IM, becoming a lot less dangerous. I stopped playing before this version. This build was solid for 95% of areas of the game, except for those weakness above (specially number 4). I used it for farming in the Cow Level with great success (no pesky spell casters using Thorns Curse). By the way, the most efficient way to use Whirlwind again a cluster of enemies is not to throw yourself in the middle of it, but using it on the flanks, where the ratio of damage dealt / damage taken is better. You should slowly draw a spiral (or smaller and smaller triangles) around the pack of enemies as thins out. Another useful use for shorter Whirlwind paths is to circle around a boss or unique to concentrate damage on them. In short: don't click on the enemy you want to hit, click in the ground past it.

@Meech I meant Thunder Maul, the elite version of the Great Maul (The Martel de Fer is the exceptional version). Mjolnir is the magic hammer of Thor, God of Thunder in the norse mythology. I was probably thinking about the Dungeon and Dragons RPG where one of the most the powerful magic weapons is a warhammer called Mjolnir. At the time I was playing both Diablo and pen and paper D&D. Sorry for the confusion, it was 20+ ago. ;)

Just realised you never mentioned the hilarious CC effect of the "Leap" skill at 20+ skill points. You can pause entire screens of monsters by continuously leaping in place . Works incredibly well in multiplayer PVE

The "Immortal King" set is basically designed for 'whirlwind' barbs, which is lovely - can help the barb become a pretty decent farming character that can help you leap-frog to better builds or characters (both PvM and PvE)

I am currently playing through D2 Hardcore with a friend, he is on wind druid and I am on whirlwind barbarian, currently in Act 5 Hell. I don't know how to fix your frenzy barb as I prefer to spin to win, but if you need more attack rating to actually hit stuff then something as simple as angelic amulet and angelic rings could be nice, you can even wear both rings for something like 2k more attack rating.

This made me genuinely laugh. Subbed. I pre-ordered D2 21 years ago, and of course my first build was a Barb. In fact, almost all of my builds were Barbs for the first 2 years. Very accurate analysis. Though, as far as boredom goes, the "Hammerdin" should be on that list of most boring characters to play. Decimates things, but not exactly exciting. Much like WW Barb... see a pack of monsters, jump in and spin spin spin. Only while just standing there.

Hey, late to the party, but as a long time D2 player I just wanted to add that frenzy barb was one of my favorite builds. My build was a little different than what you said though; I would always charge up to the max stacks of frenzy and then WW around at crazy speed with the + dmg from frenzy. Maybe that stopped working in one of the later patches? IDK, but just wanted to throw that out for anyone trying barb today :)

for frenzy, try the lawnmower variant. it makes use of schaffers hammers or stormlash barb skills tend to be full of "1 point wonders" as a single point to certain skills is all you need, even a level 1 ww can be very devastating (my throw barb was doing 9k @ 6k AR) also ran the singer barb, and it pretty dam alright and unkillable in pvm. i believe my guide i wrote years back is still out there

After playing every char under the sun, my two fav chars.. bone nec, and zerk barb.. my zerk barb could run diablo in around 40 sec, while also being able to two hit any character in the game, including 7k HP druids..

Still my most played class, there is just something to it smacking everything in their faces and shouting around left and right. But yes, in order to make this class work in 1.10+ you need a lot of runes, it used to be a starter class, it's sadly just not that anymore. Just look at this gear setup for my barb. weapon - Grief phaseblade offhand - Phoenix with almost 400% ed helm - Arreat's Face armor - Fortitude gloves - Laying of Hands (1.07 version) boots - Gore Rider belt - Verdungo's with a Thundergod's in my inventory to deal with those annoying lightning wraiths ring - Raven Frost ring - Rare bugged mana per kill ring amulet - Highlord's Wrath The easiest thing to obtain is probably Gore Rider or Raven Frost, but this build ultimately does work really well and competes with casters. Whirlwind + berserk, screw leveling up Howl for berserk cause who cares about 200% extra ed if berserk already does 1800% damage.

To be fair, early game Double-Swing barbs with 2, 2-handed swords and enough attack rating to have 80%+ chance to hit, 5%+ Life and Mana per hit (you can get through rings or rares) is really fun and ridiculously strong. Seer is right though, late game barbs suffer terribly at being "Mediocre" at best. Whirlwind is the exception but ONLY if you have the patience and gear.

I use Obedience runeword. super easy to make at the start of ladder on my hardcore Barb. Far as I'm concerned he has every ability to survive and get out of a tricky pack.Then later try a Kingslayer. Your Barb can deal Massive damage and stay alive it's a great tank class.

Diablo 2 resurrected was my first time playing d2, and as soon as he did that little animation when u select, i knew he was gonna be my main. My buddies played with me as sorceress, paladin, and necromancer, so they kinda carried the ranged fights, but when it came to dungeon crawling, i always got to be at the front lines 👍

Something not considered: the barbarian was the only class available in the Diablo 2 demo released on disc. You could only play up until bloodraven, and there was a level limit of 10, iirc. Fantastic game. Had to beg my parents for several years until I was 11 to get the game. I cleared it several times over, and would just create characters to go through act 1+2 on the computer I picked up off the literal street in single player with only the battle chest strategy guide to offer me guidance. This game helped crystallize for me that multilplayer is largely tertiary and kind of a tacked-on novelty. I enjoy novelties, though.

On your Frenzy barb, were you on players 1? That looked extremely slow. I'm running dual grief, CoH, LoH, Verdungos, Arreats and it feels great. Even switching out one grief for a lawbringer still feels great.

oh man.. this is pretty late but the reason your full bis frenzy barb sucks despite the great gear is due to a known bug called "next hit always miss" or NHAM. Attack animations are rendered and executed in the client but never communicated to the server (especially if you're getting throwing into fhr or block animations which makes this already buggy bug even worse)

Paladin is the best overall, worst is between barbarian and druid. Why? Sorc does better AoE elemental damage, and is even better shapeshifted. and barb is outclassed by paladin everywhere mostly because of barbarians lack of utility. Barb makes an amazing support and PvP class though.

You shouldn't need to click with a frenzy barb, you just hold down right click and hold it in the general direction of enemies. Frenzy is a little... simple lol. I love running around everywhere as fast sorcs can tele! It's a shame frenzy barbs for the most part require some pricey gear to work.

Frenzy barb is my main end build. It's capable of doing solo ubers. Your build appears to be missing more than just some sc's. Your damage and attack speed could be higher just from watching the animation. Things like a1 faith merc, and good eth rune words(death, botd, etc.) should really bring up the power.

I run one for years, thousands of torches, back in the day. I will agree with loh, and Highlands ammy. Used botd/"death runeword" axes. the fasted kill. Especially Ubers. And yea a faith act one Merc. Carried 10 max, xx ar, 40-45 life gcs. He was a beast. And with enuff light resist to over come meph convic aura made it so ez. one point berserk for pys immune, was one punch kills. And of course howl to keep trash away while running Uber. IMHO one of the best chars to run Ubers, or anywhere else in the game. Hell baal was a joke. Properly geared there was none that prefade, life tap wand on switch crap either. Just walk in and frenzy them down in a few secs. I had all the swords and zerker axes. Botd,grief (slow pvm good for pvp) last wish. Etc. Etc. Seemed like botd/death was the best and fastest for pvm.

What kind of items were you using in this video? I've seen the IK set perform many times better than that. The barb is way better than this video lets on. That being said I found these series of video very funny and entertaining(hope you make more).

This will most likely be my second character in D2R because the barb is the best MF class if he has enigma, pitzerker is the best T85 farmer no exceptions because even if you can clear pits faster (other classes can't do it that much faster) he gets to hork for a 50% chance at a second loot roll on every elite pack.
