Awesome video. You never disappoint. Took my six year old daughter herping today in Upstate NY. (The Carskills). We found 7 eastern gartersnakes, three eastern milksnakes, 3 northern ringnecks, a copperhead, and a young, small timber rattler. She had a blast, and she loves your videos. Keep the awesome videos coming.

I have to say Noah, as I trawl through all your old videos, you are by far the most respectful and careful herper that I watch. I have become obsessed with watching and wish I could find one snake. Unfortunately not much diversity in the uk. On my next US trip I will be looking when we go hiking.

That dead snake was the perfect opportunity to school people on how not to flip for snakes. Never put flipped materials back down on any creature. Always remove them then replace the object , then release the animal .
@NKFherping4 жыл бұрын
I think this was probably a case of them not seeing the snake at all. We had 3 people and barely saw it, it was wedged in the very back. Probably an honest mistake, but still sucks to see.
@stevenhall89644 жыл бұрын
That's true NEVER put the object down on the animal, remove it first then let it go AFTER you put the rock or board down!!

I almost never post comments (as you can see by my screen name, this is basically just a dummy account since I don't know how to make or post videos), but I discovered your herping videos last year and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy them. I'm not really that old (just early 60's) but unfortunately my mobility is shot. I'm not in a chair yet, though I'm living with chronic pain and wear myself out walking or even standing for too long at a time. But there was a time in my life when enjoyed taking walks in the thickets and bottoms to look for snakes. I was never as dedicated as you are, as I have a number of interests that take their turn obsessing me, but herping was definitely way up there, especially in early spring. I am so jealous of how you turn up so many snakes underneath tin. I used to flip tin like that but I almost never found a snake. Sure, I know that one reason it seems that way is that all the disappointments don't get shown, but your success is greater than mine every was simply because this is your avocation, not merely one of a number of interests. I too have caught and kept king snakes, racers, garter snakes, and hog noses ("spread natters" we call them). But my favorite of them all is the gray rat snake, or "chicken snake" as we call it here. They are so docile and make such wonderful pets. As much as I enjoy these videos, I'm afraid there is also a sense of pain because I know I will never get to go herping again and probably will never even handle a gray rat from here on out. I do miss it, though even were my mobility not a problem, I can't take the summer heat like I used to. Anyway, thank you so much for these wonderful videos. Please keep sharing your herping adventures with us. I have to depend on them for vicarious snake-catching now! How I wish I could still do what you do! Why do we take such things for granted until we lose them?

I know what you mean, I'm 63 now with chronic back pain, I cant lift any weight at all, cant walk far or stand in one spot for long and I lose my breath easily, but there was a time in my life ( before you tube) when my spare time was taken up by either herping or fishing, and I was extremely successful at both, I could have had a couple you tube shows back then!!! Although this young man does out herp me even in my best days, though I did have a knack for finding extremely rare stuff, both reptiles and amphibians and fish!!

I am absolutely terrified of snakes. Deathly afraid. I will never handle or touch one lol. My mentality has always been that the only good snake is a dead snake. After watching all of your videos, I’ve realized how mild mannered most of them are and the common theme is that they always try to get away from human interaction rather than causing harm, unless provoked of course. It’s really made me respect them more and see how beautiful they are as creatures. It’s totally changed my mindset. I’m still deathly afraid of them. But I don’t have the “the only good snake is a dead snake” mentality any more.

Lived in So Illinois my entire life, never saw a milk snake until one tried to get in my daughter's house last year. Have to say it was beautiful however not a fan of snakes at all. I'm very surprised you didn't happen upon a rattler. Very big ones in the LaRue Pine Hills area of Alto Pass. Stay safe!

We just moved to Texas and I have found some small snakes in my yard. I have the Audubon society field guide North American reptiles and Fabians and I have tried to find the small snake in the book and I can’t seem to identify it going to try to post a couple pictures wondering if you could identify for me. Well I Can’t find anyway to send pictures? Do you know how I can send them to you? Would love to go on a hunt with you sometime
