@py85544 жыл бұрын
Jack Hornet True, but the word is considered outdated now in Japan. Those doing enkou most likely will say they are engaging in papakatsu (papa hunting activity), just like people engaging in konkatsu (marriage partner hunting activity) or shuukatsu (job hunting activity), all some means to get financial security for the women who engage in it.
@eett59304 жыл бұрын
Patrick Yip I think it’s because 援交 sounds more like engaging in sexual activity while パパ活 sounds just hanging out for money in general.
@py85544 жыл бұрын
EETT The line is grey. When the word Enkou first appeared, it did not necessarily mean sexual kind of contact, but later it got associated with sex for money kind of exchange. And the word got a “dirty” meaning, and people no longer want to be associated with it. I see similar happening with papakatsu. A lot of papakatsu may not be about just sex but over time more and more papakatsu involve sex trade of some kind.

When that lady said that "if the man is providing well for the family, what's the problem with being a papakatsu?" I felt very sad for a minute. So men are seen as walking ATM machines and women are seen as tools to satisfy men's pleasure buds? Wasn't marriage supposed to be above all, a life-long contract of trust, love, and support? Is it only about money now? I wouldn't mind at all if someone who's single is being a papakatsu or mamakatsu for another single person, that's their life and if they're willing to pay for another person's companionship, they're free to do so. But when either side of this deal is married, engaged or in a relationship, I find it deeply disturbing to ask for someone else's companionship in love, or be someone's love companion when you already have someone with you. If you feel like you don't love your wife/husband, boyfriend/girlfriend anymore, why keep them in your life and hide something horrible from them?

It's a further reminder of what Nobita-San has covered in the past involving the family dynamic, needless to say it has to improve in Asian countries. It's ridiculous that you have to be married to your job more than spouse and the fact that many people are becoming less and less interested in marriage isn't good. Things like this and the whole "Rent a brother/sister/family" are only Band-Aids, quick fixes. As good as these things may seem and as good as it may feel there's nothing better than to have a serious, intimate relationship with someone. They also have to remember, as do many people in the world, that marriage is not a problem solver. When you get married it doesn't get easier, that's when the real work begins.

I believe this is an issue that is spreading all across the developed world. The daily struggle of staying warm, well fed, and clean isn't much of a thing for the average person anymore. As a result societies are becoming more and more materialistic leading to certain taboos becoming more accepted than they ever would have been in the past. No one cares anymore, because they've become obsessed with having the latest and greatest products to place themselves high up in the social hierarchy, as an individuals worth is often measured by your perceived "wealth". So, people are more inclined to seek out expensive luxury products rather than quality products that you keep for much of your life. 100 years ago it wasn't uncommon for people to save up quite a bit of money for a quality watch, suit, pair of shoes not because of its perceived value, but due to the fact that it was expected to last several years or even decades. I actually find it quite sad that people are effectively pissing away their income on designer this or designer that. Items, which aren't necessarily valuable for the durability or excellent quality, but for the brand name itself. It's truly quite perverse.
@Jekyll084 жыл бұрын

Have been living in Japan for the past four years and can confirm that Japan and quite a few of its people have quite a different and sometimes distorted view on life and romance. There are so many things here that are a quick cover up for life's bigger problems. Not getting along with your spouse since teleworking at home due to COVID-19? Just rent a special hotel room (designed for this purpose, I should add) by the hour! Are you too shy to eat alone when dining out? Go to a solo ramen booth! Too scared to tell work that you are quitting? Just hire someone else to do it for you! The real issue is that it is quite difficult for women to earn a decent wage here. That is the main factor why this sort of thing has taken off here, I think.
@steak55994 жыл бұрын
is it easy for men to earn decent wage over in Japan though? From what I've been reading, Japan have a fairly low wage on many professions when compared to other developed nations, low wage and very high cost of living seems like a very stressful way to live.
@steak55994 жыл бұрын
@Jordan Fernandez Thanks for the insight on the work structure. From my experience in America, we seem to be more performance base rather than seniority base. (Age discrimination is pretty bad there) I don't think America has a higher cost of living. We can't really use the extreme to compare like Tokyo vs New York City, not a fair comparison because majority of the population don't live in extreme case scenarios. Neither should we use countryside rice field village either, I am talking about B-Rank cities. If you throw in the standard of living into the equation, America has a much lower cost of living if we are going by the same living standard. Housing Price per square foot/meter in Japan are much more expensive, I think we can agree on that. But even general commodities like food in Japan seem awfully expensive. And then there are luxuries such as Car ownership... which seems unaffordable for an average salaryman. If we go by European Country, they are closer to Japan, However, European Countries in the Euro Zone have a very generous social safety net. If we compare to Eastern Countries, South Korea seems to suffer the same problem as Japan. China wise... Cost of living is actually quite low there, I believe it has to do with their Tax structure. China doesn't have Tax the hell out of everything on their citizen like the USA, but there is ZERO social safety net, everything is you get what you pay for, and you see every dime you make.
@steak55994 жыл бұрын
@Jordan Fernandez What I mean the extreme case is like comparing Tokyo, the most expensive city to live in Japan, and San Francisco, the most expensive city to live in the USA. And the other extreme is a rural area in the middle of nowhere, where you can pay next to nothing for a plot of land. Seniority affects income works differently in the USA, at least from what I've seen. In USA, it is quite a common sight to see very young people getting promoted to management positions, and becoming the boss of much older guys. If you are talking about wage increase, yes, there are quite a lot of companies that give a wage increase every year, and then it caps out at a certain amount. But if you want to move up the ladder, you need to show you are doing a better job than your co-worker, age and seniority don't matter. If you are a salesman, the one who generates the most sales wins the job. You think of it as a Sport, whoever can score the most point gets the gold medal. I know there is a cultural difference between the East and the West, even South Koreans seem to believe people should put in the time to clock up their seniority in order to move up the ladder. On Nobita's other video, he confirmed people working in the IT sector in Japan gets pay relatively low wage compared to the USA.I know it is quite difficult to get an accurate comparison, the USA is a big country with a huge population, just like China, and different location will give different data.

Here I thought Japan loved purity & family values, I guess Japanese family values are different and the definition of purity is different. I live in country with high divorce rate, but at least they get to move on and find someone better. Not just stayed married because of what other people think, it’s worse in my opinion to be cheating & living with someone you don’t like. Also cheating has a different meaning in Japan 😂 Man I guess just go mess around have fun and come back with stories.

Seeing lots of comments about how terrible the women are for supplying a service but don't forget the men are seeking these women out, what they do with their time and money is up to them, they're grown ass adults... At least having someone to break loneliness is far better than to be actually lonely. Loneliness is the number one cause of premature deaths. The cheating aspect is sad, if only these people didn't have so much social pressure to get married and start a family, it would save so much heartbreak. I don't think providing this service is bad, but necessary. Some people really struggle and it helps them, get off your high horses and leave these people alone.

I asked my Japanese students why most men end up divorcing their wife and the majority of them said it's the lack of love in the marriage. The majority of the Japanese wives care what men can provide for them and less about emotional support. I had a student who worked his ass off doing overtime. One time he was gone for a week due to a business trip and guess what the wife first asked him when she called him? Money. Not even an "I miss you" or "How are you". He was depressed asf. That is why most husbands seek comfort and attention at kyabakuras or young girls who could provide them with affection that their wives cannot which then leads to divorce. Still does not justify cheating though.
