Im looking forward to this series! And i really appreciate all the background and context you gave on why and how you'll be able to do this. I feel like a more accessible solution for a lot of people will be communal housing instead of tiny homes. Which will involve learning how to make friends with people from diverse backgrounds, create hyperlocal infrastructure, and modular, self-sustainable technologies. Excited to see what we learn from your journey!

Good luck with your build! Lots of affordable housing exists just not within city centers. Low down payment options for these houses make home ownership very possible. I have purchased homes in the northeast in relatively urban areas for under 50,000. Home ownership is not out of reach in most parts of the USA if looked at based on geographical area.

Can I suggest instead of 'off grid' think more in terms of 'grid independent' wire in rv hook ups etc... so you can use the grid to your advantage when its available. Also built in redundancy can be a life saver! good luck to you on this endeavor!

Already on it! We want to put together something like an off grid homestead eventually, and I wanted to be able to tie-in this truck to the larger photovoltaic system we'll setup permanently there, in the future. So our inverter has an AC-in line we're connecting to one of those hook ups.

Also, insulate to the enth degree will save lots, and look to moisture management, those are the 2 things that come up over and over in tiny and van build are not enough insulation to moderate temps and mold from the inherent humidity of living things in small spaces!

I agree, I see a lot of trust fund babies rolling around in $100K Mercedes Sprinters. It's the 'in' thing.

It sucks that it has to be this way. Good luck on everything brother.

Dude, this video has no content. Sad it came up on my algorithm.
@TheQuietPartisLoud6 ай бұрын
I don't really make videos for "content". I'm not chasing the algorithm here. I do this because I enjoy it, and mostly to keep myself thinking and reflecting. There are other channels that work to entertain an audience. Go there, and may you have fun. I love those kinds of videos, too.

Not the whole of America. That's not honest. Plenty of flyover states to have great housing opportunities. A tiny home does not appreciate it depreciates like a car, RV, or mobile home. But you do what you gotta do. I want the best for you and your lady.

Ya'know I was listening back to that line, and I should have added "The Average person of age to buy their first home" or something along those lines. My older coworkers seems to be having a better time, though they often remark how impossible it would have been for them to buy their first home now. I got a little too focused on my age range of homebuyers in that case. Though, that might be even more worrisome. My family back home in Ohio talk about how even there housing prices have gotten crazy, which to me is unthinkable. But apparently it's very real.
