If you've been wanting to start a bookkeeping business, this will give you an idea about what tasks are required on a day to day basis. what kinds of clients do you service? what kind of businesses do they run and are they sole proprietors? How many employees does your biggest client employ?

Hi! Some examples I've had: lawyer, florist, etsy seller, non profit in the medical field, speech pathologist office, preschool. The biggest client I've had employed 40 people (and they also had an in-house CPA), smallest is a single business owner. My sweet spot would be 3-15.

Your videos are so helpful and as I'm watching and going through my Quickbooks training I'm learning so much! I feel though I am leaning bits and pieces here and there. So for my own clarification I want to provide any example and see if I've got the idea right. 😅 Example: Customer makes a purchase on their debit card. They send me the receipt and I document the expense transaction as "Office Supplies". Now reviewing the bank feeds I'll be able to match this expense transaction to what's posted in the back feeds. Does this sound correct? Thanks!!

Thanks for your videos, really gaining confidence in doing my own bookkeeping. I graduate with my accounting degree next year and about to take me quickbooks certification. Do you think I can dive feet first and start a llc and start getting clients? Or do you think I should try to get a entry level accounting job first?

Hi Denny, good question. I would save dive in! It's probably a matter of personal preference, but that's what I would do--it seems like you have great schooling and are gaining experience.

Question- With a new client, even though you're charging hourly, do you require a 5 hour deposit up front? If not, what is your experience with actually getting paid after you've done the work on a new client?
@purelove2485

Annie Herold , I'm no expert but you don't have to charge hourly you can make more by doing monthly. Let's say you get done quicker, then you will be making less because you get done quicker. It's up to you but I'm in book training school and it's just the way they teach us but I am happy for you💗 I am learning as well 😊

What is the 'ask your accountant' section you are referring to?
@FinePointsBookkeeping
@FinePointsBookkeeping 4 жыл бұрын
It is just one of the expense categories that I use to organize transactions (similar to office supplies or utilities). It comes pre made in QuickBooks, and I use it to drop all of my question items in that I need to ask my client. You could also rename it "questions for owner" or "ask John."

Do you have any recommendations for a laptop? I’m looking into getting a refurbished one. And would it be ok to use wifi from a coffee shop, at least until I can afford internet at my home?
@mohamedamr8081
@mohamedamr8081 4 жыл бұрын
I would advice on getting a laptop with a good ram and CPU, the onr I have is 4 gb ram and dual core cpu and it is really really letting me down. If you're tight on money I would go for in-house bookkeeping (stay safe from corona!) so you do it at the client till you can get the funds for a good laptop (you can find plenty of good ones for less than 800 bucks). Goodluck

I'm not a big computer expert, but it sounds like Mohamed's advice is good! I started out using the computer I already had. I do not recommend working from a coffee shop unless you have measures to protect your wifi (like VPN). Maybe you can share a friend's internet?

@FinePointsBookkeeping
@FinePointsBookkeeping 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't do manual payroll in QB because I find it tedious and the rules change frequently (I've taken a class on it, but don't feel like I have the knowledge to do it confidently). But if my client uses a payroll company, I put it into QBO (there's a certain way to do it).
