I thought that the one who made the hat was marceline, as she saw most of post war human history and saw how they wore hoods out of animal skin to protect themselves from vampire bites, maybe she wanted to honor that tradition? Idk

That's a nice thought but I see a few problems with it... 1. Marclines was still being "evil" from her break up with PB a few hundred years earlier. It's not until she meets Finn later that he convinces her to be good again. 2. Why would Marcy make a naked baby a hat and not a diaper? She was human once, she has a better understanding of a human baby than anyone else in Ooo, if she decided to help baby Finn he almost certainly would have been wrapped in some kind of nappy. 3. Animal hats isn't an overly rare concept in Ooo, considering Susan Strong is already in the sewers putting animal hats on all the fish people by the time Baby Finn arrives on Ooo 🤔

@@cbass7283 it seems likely that if Susan had been the one to find Baby Finn then he would have been raised in the sewers. Not left in the woods where Joshua and Margaret could find him. Also Susan Strong seems to have a concept of wearing clothes, so again I suspect she would have put a nappy on the baby. The culprit has to be someone who is handy enough with fabric to convert a toy bear into a hat (moving the name tag from the bears bum to the inside part of the hat) but clueless enough about human baby's to basically leave it nude and go drop it where the local dog-parents would find it 🤷‍♀️

I can’t believe I never noticed raggedy princess’ poem that makes so much sense. It really makes me wonder about her history/how old she is. Was she created raggedy or was she a long standing princess that turned colloquially raggedy as time went on? Also how were the people of Ooo able to discern he was a human being despite clearly none of them (Marcy excluded) ever having seen a human before, given that there are so many humanoid residents of ooo that aren’t actually human

I'm going with... Everyone in Ooo believed humans to be extinct, but they still know what humans are. You claim none of them ever saw a human before, but they certainly saw evidence of humans. Old photographs of humans are scattered all across Ooo so they know what humans look like. Also the Rainacorns used to love eating people, but since all the people are gone now they eat Soy People instead because it tastes the same. They even fed Finn some Soy People in the episode Her Parents. Lastly smell, humans probably smell different than most of the creatures on Ooo.

@@MossMothMyBeloved exactly. For trauma often brings a new phase of life; that leaf represented his "boom boom" being symbolic to being stuck on the raft for potential months. He's internally scarred. The "boom boom" leaf was the last light to his old life, without that leaf, perhaps Margaret and Joshua never see the boy or notice him or take pity. The Last Human, found on a leaf. The last human wasn't found with a revolutionary bang, but a sad cry for help and humanity.

Here's my headcanon: Kara Strong found Finn but couldn't return back to the Human Islands, likely because their raft/boat was broken by one of the many dangers at sea. They wash up on Ooo, and Kara makes the bear into a hat to protect him from vampires (maybe she saw Marceline), but at one point she hits her head for some reason (maybe she just ran into a thick branch in the forest) and stumbled away, forgetting about Finn and eventually finding the Hyooomans. Makes the most sense to me. Alternatively, it could be some character we have yet to meet.

This is a super cool theory! I always wondered how Joshua and Margaret knew Finn's name, and your off handed explanation about spells would have sufficed for me, but the bear having his name on it? I never noticed! Raggedy princess being the one to make the hat does leave one open question though; how did she know humans wore animal hats? I suppose she could just be super old, but I wouldn't put it past Marceline either, who would definitely know about this aspect of human culture. Maybe the two had talked about it? We'll never know for sure, but nice work on this video!

That is a good question, you are right that we don't have a clear answer as to Raggedy Princess's age, or if the legend of humans in hats remained in Ooo... However we do know that Susan Strong and a bunch of fish people all wore animal hats in the sewers below Ooo... Perhaps word of their existence predates Finn finding them. Considering we know several of the main Princesses (such as Bubblegum) are hundreds of years old and attend annual Princess Day events to discuss important Ooo business, they would have certainly talked about Fish People living underground if they had ever found them. So Raggedy might know from that 🤷‍♀️ But honestly I always just imagined that some of the bear got damaged or wet/gross, and so her motive to turn it into a hat was simply the best way to "repair" what remains 🤷‍♀️

Maybe Marcy found baby finn before Joshua and Margeret, in her first appearance she does make somewhat odd comments about Finn being cute or whatever, which could've just been her flirting/messing with him but maybe she remembered him and those comments were more like a mother/aunt calling her son/nephew "handsome" and not a 1000+ year old vampire flirting with a 12 year old boy, which is a bit sus looking back, especially her slapping his ass during their fight towards the end 😂😂😂, but then again it doesnt seem like there would be enough time between Finn washing up in Ooo and Joshua and Margeret finding him, but who knows? Maybe Marcy dumped Baby Finn off in the woods for whatever reason, heck maybe she intentionally gave him over the Jake's parents cuz she knew they'd be better at raising him

According to the Adventure Time encyclopedia, Joshua and Margaret named Finn themselves because they initially thought he was a mudscamp like Woobeewoo from "The Hard Easy" episode. So I guess maybe it could just be a big coincidence that they named him the exact same thing his real parents named him? That still doesn't explain how he ended up wearing the bear hat when Joshua and Margaret found him though.

Yeah that doesn't hold up to what we saw in the show, so either the book is outdated and got retconned, or the book was inaccurate to begin with. Because even if they thought he was a little Woobeewoo and named him after that, then his name would be "Fin" not "Finn" 🤷‍♀️ a Fin is something fish have, Finn means nothing. The odds of both sets of parents randomly adding an extra "n" to the name is near impossible... Unless Cosmic Owl was involved 🤷‍♀️ If Joshua saw a dream with the name Finn in it, then fine and I can accept that.... However we never saw that in the show or any clue that hint towards that in the show 🤔 Only real clues I can find in the show about Finns name is the name tag thing 🤦‍♀️

I recall a comment said by the writers that Finn killed a bear and made the hat himself. Guess a stuffed Teddy Bear counts well enough. And that baby Finn has some mad sewing skills. Though it's possible some random semstress decided to make the hat for Finn.

My weird theory is that the Tree witch from "to cut a woman's hair" created Finn's hat, wrapped him with a leaf, and placed him where he'd eventually be found by his new parents. A younger tree witch found him in the forest and wrapped him with a leaf and made him his hat from his toy bear. She then placed him somewhere he'd be found whilst she hid (which she's been shown to do). But why though? I think, in solidarity with Finn's weird baby hair and her bald spot, she did an act of kindness by covering it up so people would think he looked beautiful. Also, giving a lost baby a hat out of his toy and a leaf for a diaper is something only a slightly crazed person would do, and we all know magic users commonly display madness throughout their lives. She's a Tree witch who lives in a forest and is covered in foliage 24/7 so a leaf would seem like a normal thing to use to cover him with. Tree Witch is clearly very very old, likely old enough to see the humans who created the first animal hats. Perhaps she saw Finn and associated him, a human, with the other humans she's seen in the past, all of which would have had animal hats and decided he needed one too. This theory also adds some fun ret-conning to "To cut a woman's hair" episode It being the first time we're shown what's under Finn's hat. He removes it and gives her his hair, helping her look more beautiful. A favor for a favor. And if you're thinking "why wouldn't she recognize him or at the very least the hat she made for him, well she's shown to not be very attentive to her surroundings and has a bad memory (very much like ice king). If you squint hard enough to view the episode through that lens, its sort of sad, and sorta emulates the relationship Marcy has with ice king but in a less extreme,.obvious, or emotional way.

I always figured Margaret made the hat for Finn as a way she always be qith him but also so he wouldn't feel si different from the rest of the characters in the show. She wanted him to feel normal. And I believe she taught him mercy and love while Joshua taught him how to be tough and fight back

I think it’s obvious that SOMEBODY came into contact with Finn before Joshua and Margaret, just based on the clips you’ve presented showing that Finn’s human parents were not the ones who gave him the hat. I never would have seen the tag detail on the teddy bear, but it makes sense that the hat was made from the bear, and the tag was still on it once it became a hat. That’s a logical explanation for why they knew his name. I suppose that the person responsible for the hat could have been Raggedy Princess. There’s nothing I’ve seen to contradict this theory. The poem is also probably not empty of meaning, so maybe they just wanted to hint at things subtly without directly giving an explanation. The only thing that I think is not spot on is that, if the poem is indeed about Finn, and Raggedy Princess’s first encounter with him, I don’t think the leaf part of that last line is a reference to the leaf that is stuck to Finn when he is found by his dog parents. In the Episode, “Memories of Boom Boom Mountain,” Finn recalls that he once pooped on a leaf when he was a baby, and then he fell onto the leaf and it got stuck to him because he fell on his on waste. Nobody nearby would help him because they thought he had “problems.” After he began to cry, he was found by Joshua and Margaret, and they actually decided to take him in. The person who made the hat, Raggedy Princess or whoever it was, was not responsible for the leaf. The “Lonely last unlikely leaf,” probably more accurately refers to Finn himself being possibly the last surviving human, and the unlikeliness of his appearance in Ooo, if the poem is talking about Finn in the first place. Overall, though, I would say that this theory is definitely possible.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so deeply because (I'll be honest) this is my laziest theory, each one after this will get deeper and deeper into the secrets of the show. As for Finn's memories of people refusing to help because he "has problems" in Boom Boom Mountain, those memories can't really be trusted. He is a literal baby unable to speak, yet he has a full grasp of the english language and ability to understand them talking about him? Then retain those memories accurately? Seems unlikely to me when we know the Fear Feaster stuff proves that Finn repressed the memories of being lost at sea, locking away the memories of what truly happened to Baby Finn in The Vault 🤷‍♀️ Lastly, most of my "baby memories" are just stories from my parents that my brain says are true. The story Finn tells sounds like a story Joshua the Dog would tell Finn growing up. Anytime it's "Dad where did I come from?" "Well Son, I found you lost in the forest covered in poop. Boy did you stink, no one would help you. It took Margaret hours to clean you up. No kisses for her that day"

I mainly referenced them because they have appeared in multiple episodes and been fleshed out a bit, but I get that they’re not the most reliable account of events. However, I still feel like my interpretation of the poem fits well enough, But poetry can be interpreted differently by different people, so you know, anything is possible. As far as theories go, you pulled from multiple different episodes across multiple seasons and still managed to make a convincing argument. If this is what a “lazy” theory looks like, then it will be interesting to see what your future videos are like. Maybe. Although that episode and backstory was told by Finn before the Fear Feaster episode... so we know that his time at sea as a baby is locked away in the vault. That and the fact that Finn was a literal baby at the time with no language skills makes his memories in the episode very questionable. In that story he is clearly not a very reliable narrator

I HAVE A THEORY AND I NEED ANSWERS!!! okay so, in the episode "evicted" when we first see Marceline, when the boys get home, they see king worm, and he puts F + J under a spell or something bcoz the two start hugging him. Then in the episode "King Worm" when Finn and Jake finally wake up for real, they are in the same spot they were when King Worm first took control of them. So my theory is: what if every episode between the two was just Finn's dreams, and nothing was real. I can't find anything on this but I think I'm on to something

Sorry to tell you but the episodes are not in Chronological Order. There are several episodes that tie together from seasons apart, like Princess Potluck where Finn is missing his Sock, and seasons apart in BMO Noir where (on the same day) BMO finds Finns missing sock. Now the reason why the episodes are not in timeline-style order is... when the Ice Elemental asked Finn "What year is this?" Finn's answer is "Uhh, no one really tells time like that anymore" meaning that in Ooo they don't keep track of events based on "when they happened" but instead only focus on "what happened" which is why some episodes are actually in order, because to people of Ooo it makes sense to tell those stories in order

Good question, you almost stumped me with that too... Luckily someone else had the answer, I goggled it and someone pointed out that Finn only starts using his last name after the Prizmo Farm World plotline. Shortly after this plotline Finn announces that his flute skills have greatly improved for no apparent reason. Popluar theory is that exposure to Farm World still lingers in current Finn. Farm World Finn knew his name and was rather good at the flute

Also Jake telling Finn about Farm World wouldn't have magically made his flute skills higher, but Finn retaining that Skill from when he was in Farm World makes perfect sense

I actually think the original intention may have been that he learned it from his human dad; In "The Visitor," Martin declares himself as Martin Mertens after meeting Finn again. That episode aired after "Dentist" (where Finn uses the Mertens name) but its production code is actually 5 episodes earlier (183 vs 188) so it's possible that it was meant to be a tiny string of continuity that was aired in the wrong order. Another example of this sort of thing happening was Tree Trunks appearing in "Evicted" even though she was supposed to be in the Crystal Dimension at that point.

Yep, that is how Finn remembered it. But that memory was before the Fear Feaster stuff, so we know Finns true memories of what happened to him as a baby are locked in the vault. We don't know how reliable of a narrator he is in the Boom Boom Mountain story. Also in his memory's he is a baby unable to speak or communicate, so that also adds to the doubt that he remembers everything accurately

Early in the show, Finns fear of the ocean feeds a creature called the Fear Feaster. Which Finn eventually defeats with his cursed grass sword like 6 years later 🤷‍♀️

@@HeadCasey i just don’t see raggedy princess having any connection to the fish people. There’s only 1 place that hat came from. The fish people. Look into this……. If this person finds a baby and sees, it’s not wearing the hat so the fish person gives Fin his or her hat. Then this person sees the boom boom and goes back to get something to clean up the boom boom with or they find the boom, boom and go to get something to clean them up with, but leave the hat to keep him safe, and when they get back the dogs found him. Look for fish, people, or Susan, acting strange, and or having a hat that looks similar to fins….. I wonder if the fish people pick their hats for a specific reason or if it’s just any old Animal hat.

OK so if this is true. Is there any reason for the piece of glass in her head? I perceive if there's any reason why she hasn't directly told him. Her mind is probably Broken most likely because of the glass. So it's possible that she did all that or she saw somebody do it. Whoever was setting up jake in the spot You might have done that to her or Between the time that she seen this and finn growing up did the piece of glass fall into her head. That she then can only say the truth about a big secret in rhymes. It also might have something to do with the hole in her eye and being able to throw socks.

Oh dang, you might have just solved it. I had several people say "if she made the hat, why wouldn't she make him a nappy or pants or whatever too" but if she is brain damaged from the glass in her head (as far as we have seen it's always been there) then she might not be able to understand certain things like a baby's clothing requirements. She just understands clothes themselves so she just made the Hat as that's all she could think to do

So I looked into this a little bit more. Only connections I can see with the hat goes back to the hyoomans. Only reference I have When it comes to crystals are tree trunk and the crystal Dimension. Only thing I can even think of is that the sock princess had a run-in with the crystal people or Someone who would conveniently have the tools of The crystal people. Then that person also would have to not Princesses or thought that she might have brought danger to find if she got too close. Maybe while she was near him putting the leaf on him she was saying poems. That's the reason why The baby was crying. Like if baby Finn is smart enough to sing a song I would perceive that he could get depressed from a poem. Still doesn't explain why that piece of glass is in her head. Even though she's a princess she was only currently made a princess by bubble gum. With shows from her job being a Scarecrow and also being At the dump. But that means that the glass in her head has nothing to do with being crowned.

Just found out that Susan is a cyborg. Is it possible that Susan strong actually did it. It seems like she had instructions in the past grab fin and his father. Could any of those instructions have stayed throughout the year's . Maybe even her thinking that raggedy princess was attacking fin and then attacked her to then let the dogs take care of him. And maybe by the time she finished attacking her already gone before it's too late for her to take him to beUtopia.

One thing that you might not be considering is the possibility of finn being an unreliable narrator. It's from his memory he tells the story about the leaf, right? Who's to say he even HAD a hat on? Maybe it went more like this: baby finn washed up on the beach, crawled a bit with his stuffed bear into the forest and then pooped onna leaf, and was then found by Margaret and Joshua. Since the bear was probably gross, they gutted it and made him a hat so he wouldn't be too cold. And they named him after the tag on the bear, which was his name. The hat has no tag on it right? So the bear must've been in full form when they found him. Joshua and Margaret do fucked up things sometimes with no remorse so I could totally see them gutting a kids stuffed bear to make a hat and a diaper on the spot. Its finn's first memory, but it's not like he has a perfect memory. He remembers having the hat for as long as he can remember, so it was probably there in his first memory right? He wouldn't recall the bear itself since he was so young. I feel like this makes a but more sense then raggedy princess finding him, what do you think?

You are right that Finn is an unreliable narrator for his early baby memories, although other charactors do mention stuff in early Finn times and all of those clips have the hat too. Like at the end of the BMO distant lands, Finn and Jake are kids playing with wooden training swords, and Finn has the hat already by then. Also we see recordings of Baby Finn and Jake left in the Crystal Parenting Manual by Joshua and Margaret, and Finn has the hat on in all of their recordings of the babies. It really does seem like he had it from before they met him. Also it seems unlikely they would turn the bear into the hat, when we know Margaret has clean hats sitting on shelves back home 🤔 Why wouldn't they just give a new hat to the baby? Why treat it's hat or name like they have significant value, unless they are the only things the baby has from its origins

We know that dogs and rainicorns are heavily connected as there was a war between them and we know that rainicorns ate humans so maybe it's not unreasonable to think that some dogs might have books on things like that

There wasn't one on Finn's Raft. The raft only contained Baby Finn (wearing diaper) a plush Teddy Bear (with Finns name tagged in it) and a magic wand that creates breadsticks 🤷‍♀️ Then somehow when he is adopted in Ooo, he suddenly is only wearing a bear hat. His teddy, diaper and bread wand have vanished.

Ah, but he doesn't start using his last name until after the Farm World plotline. When Prizmo sent Finn to Farm World, Finn knew his name and had spent a lifetime of learning the flute in that world. When that adventure ends and Finn is returned back to the main world, he suddenly knows his last name and has an entire episode about how his flute skills had suddenly improved to pro levels basically overnight. Popluar theory is that Farm World affected Finn more than we know
