07:38 Morrissound Studios really perfected that post-thrash/death sound. Sepultura records have WAYYY more bass (not bass guitar necessarily, just overall frequency response) than any Metallica/Slayer record. You can hear when the guitarists are hitting the strings harder or softer, even if playing un unison. If I'm listening to death metal I want it to FEEL like I'm in hell 😂
@originalname99996 ай бұрын
Speaking of Sepultura, Max and Igor (Cavalera Conspiracy) rerecording the early albums has been awesome. Morbid Visions, Bestial Devastation, and Schizophrenia still hold that old raw sound but just cleaned up a bit and mastered in a way you can hear it all. They really kept the soul of those albums. It really shows you can record something with todays tech and keep the sound of a late 80's underground release.

Anyways, I'll try to simplify what I said so you can follow along. Tool writes long songs, and you need to have a decent attention span to really appreciate all the nuiances packed into them. They aren't the 3:30 verse, chorus, verse, bridge, outro type songs that are radio friendly. If that's what you like, great! Rock out! But, you need to understand that doesn't do it for everyone. Some people need a little more in their music to scratch that itch, and Tool does it for a lot of people.

I'm w/ ya on the production. To me, clean production makes bands sound 'samey'. So many bands have their own sound, but w/ perfect production it's often lost. Once reason I love ...And Justice for All (yes, Metallica stan here) is that it has VERY distinct production and I love its tone and sound. And I know Rick Rubin gets shit on for his production but I think he adds character to songs from like uber-compression or thin/reedy sounding stuff that makes songs more memorable or unique.
@KaynanDurant5 ай бұрын
I think modern production sucks because triggered/programmed drums played to a click and then further edited for any imperfection. And the massive amount of compression in the mixing and mastering that’s popular right now. Those two factors remove so much of the tension and dynamics that made the pre digital era of production so much more compelling.

I really liked Undertow when it came out…I haven’t heard it since the 90’s though so I don’t know if I’d think the same way about it now

45 year old ding dong here who has listened to extreme music and punk/hardcore since early teens. I actually enjoy both Glenn & Graves era Misfits. Dig on both albums but American Psycho had some fast af bangers with a heavy mix and earworm vocal melodies. I agree Danzig era is superior, but a bunch of those Graves songs are legit and deserve more attention.

Dude calls me his close friend then turns around and calls me a poser 2 minutes later... Some of the Graves era stuff are just fun cheesy rock song's. I'd never put it abive Danzig, but there are 3 or 4 Graves songs that I wont skip.

The production is phenomenal since it’s on a 16th track and hear the phone ringing that’s the point they’re that good they don’t need the studio they play exactly what they play(opiate)

Famous Monsters is really catchy, it's a fun record. Forbidden Zone, Scream, Saturday Night, Descending Angel, Fiend Club are really good imo. I can't really compare the Danzig and Graves era Misfits tbh, it's like 2 different bands.
