This movie gave me some of the most gut-wrenching and emotional moments I've felt in an animated work for some time. So, good to know Pixar still has it in them to go straight for our hearts ^^;

In the first movie, Joy didn't see that she was... broken. Joy felt like she was the most essential for Riley. She cared so much that she excluded Sadness. The main lesson at the end of the story was that Sadness is just as important as Joy. So now that there's a sequel, we get to see Joy trying to fix herself. She is still much of a perfectionist, but she's trying to include sadness. The end of that movie gave the lesson that all emotions are important. It went from one emotion that seemed unnecessary to more. And now that that's established, I wonder what the theme would be for the third movie.
@douglaswolfen7820
@douglaswolfen7820 Ай бұрын
There's a brilliant moment near the end, where Joy is holding the "sense of self" and she needs to rush over to the console, so she passes it off to sadness and runs to do what she needs to do It's a small moment really, and they don't draw any attention to it, but that's exactly what makes me love it so much. As far as Joy is concerned, that little sculpture is basically the most important thing in existence, and she's trusting sadness to look after it. In the first movie she didn't trust sadness to do anything. Now she's putting this epic amount of trust in her friend _without even thinking about it_ That's powerful stuff

if they make a third movie i bet it would cover the 5 stages of GRIEF, losing someone important and how that can affect riley emotionally, emotions spiraling out of control and possibly nostalgia joining in the mix, just like how anxiety is like fear but protects Riley from the things she can't see, nostalgia is like joy but is the embodiment of Joy for the things that has already passed, yes they already showed that they can recall memories in the 1st movie, but I can see how Nostalgia would be the one that gives good advices when grieving, making others remember the good times rather than dwelling on the bad stuff, I wouldn't exactly know who might pass away but maybe it would be one of Riley's parents.

I think joy is (or was if inside out 2 didn't exist) joy because of who she is, not what she provides to Riley. Even though she was only giving Riley short bursts of happiness, not "joy", she herself is joy. Happy with herself and confident in her role in the world. The emotions arent just their jobs, they're the embodiment of emotions. She knows exactly who she is and what her value is. And by your definition, that is joy.

IMO it would have been amazing if a lot more of the movie was focused on Joy being shown up by Anxiety and desperately trying to hold on to her role as the main emotion. Maybe she even starts to fade away as Riley is convinced by Anxiety that she doesn’t need Joy and she gets so worried that she runs away from the other emotions and finds an echo chamber full of clones of herself that only tell her what she wants to hear and that’s where she realizes how wrong she was for trying to control who Riley is.

So happiness is more dopamine oriented and joy is rather serotonin filled. I didn't know that. No joy without lots of happiness. Eat some food -> You get some dopamine. Eat food everyday -> You've got yourself a pattern; I'm in a good place for food -> serotonin. I don't think it's entirely wrong to call joy joy. It's kinda like calling anxiety stress, or sadness depression, or boredom ennui.

I know what it’s like to move to another state. I’m from Pennsylvania, and I had to live in Utah for almost two years, and in North Carolina for over two years. I hated being away from home. Now, I’m coming back, for good this time. I feel kind of bad for Riley, but I have been through much worse. Also, Joy is probably the most dynamic and complex of all the emotions - she seems to express LITERALLY every other emotion as well as her own. She also changes the most, and throughout the series, she changes so much that she’s not the same character but the end of the second movie.

This movie hit me like a speeding train… that was stopped by a giant rock. What that means is very minimal tears but either way. This movie was UNBELIEVABLELY relatable. I’ve had so many things happen to me in life that my soul aged 10 years. I only realized that after turning 13. And I felt EXACTLY the same way. “I’m not good enough.” “Im a horrible person.” “I’m a great friend.” And every combination possible of those. I’m still mostly negative but that’s because I have a strange sort of luck. Every time, AND I MEAN EVERY TIME something good happens, something bad happens after. Whether it’s not having to go to school for a year, and later my grandmother passes or having one of the greatest birthdays I’ve ever had and finding out I had a bug in my hair half the day. It’s consistent. Just two days ago my family got a giant TV and the only hat I have that is big enough and sturdy enough to wear for hours while gaming breaks. Another time I had just beat a game I was having trouble with and my brother had reset my Playstation. Another time, I was on a call with my best friend for hours and then after we stop the call, my Michael Jackson Thriller record album gets scratched. Thankfully I was just barely lucky enough for it to not affect the music but the fact it got a scratch at all isn’t good. It was one of my first records

Ok, I might be compleatly wrong on this (since were are talking semantics here and english isnt my first language), but I kinda think that these should be reversed. Joy is the temporery emotion, and happiness is more lasting. A person can be happy even though at any given moment you can feel afraid,angry,sad.... At the same time, a person can for breaf moments feel great joy, but is otherwise unhappy the rest of the time (aka happy destractions) I think its inposible for Joy or any single emotion to just BE Happiness ( or what you call Joy) as thats more a state of mind that is the result of many factors in ones life, and becouse of that its only when all the emotions work together properly and in bapance that a person could hope to be (mostly) happy in life. To quote Ariatotel, as not if a man was happy until he has died😅

That is a valid point, because we gain happiness when we gain praise, encouragement and support but we are not sure if that's true. Plus when it comes to our other emotions we understand what they are unlike joy or happiness. I also think the reason Joy is so selfish and yet so attention seeking is because that's where we gain happiness and helps us build Joy from advice.

I wouldn't call what Riley had a near panic attack, it was a full own panic attack. She was freaking out, hyperventilating and only focusing on her flaws. Also if one emotion takes over your personality completely, it becomes something else. Joy become mania, sadness becomes depression, anger becomes hyper aggression, fear becomes paranoia, disgust becomes narcissism and so on as a mental illness.
@MyaKHamilton
@MyaKHamilton Ай бұрын
The problem with this notion is that disgust can absolutely play into and feed aggression to the point that some psychologists call it aggressive disgust, which is something that we can actually see in genocides. Just look at the Nazis, for example. They used disgust-based language like calling the Jews parasites as a way to arouse aggression against them. Disgust is known to play heavily into dehumanization and anger, as we even see in the first movie, which is something that disgust uses to, let's say, do its bidding. Anger can be both a primary and secondary emotion because it is often hiding some other emotion like sadness or disgust. Disgust has two paradoxical forms in terms of behavior it can cause, because on the one hand, it can cause suicidal ideations because the body is viewed as a parasite or some other contaminant and therefore causes destruction to the self or destruction to others because others are viewed as essentially a contaminant. It can also, like anxiety, suppress and even possibly eliminate other emotions if they are viewed as a threat by simply arising every single time that emotion is attempted to be felt. Disgust also has a huge part to play in overall perception of self and the demarcation lines that make up the self, which is where a lot of the problems of eating disorders and even anxiety disorders come from because it's an emotion that is there to focus on the safety of body and self in terms of morality and autonomy. It's the emotion behind every anxious thought that goes like, 'is this person looking at me?' Anxiety doesn't work on its own because it always works in combination with disgust and fear. I don't think this particular emotion has much to do with narcissism overall unless you're talking about how much it often wants you to exert control over your environment to the detriment of yourself or others. Disgust is somewhat of a shapeshifting emotion in terms of its ability to hide itself in plain sight and not be acknowledged because it is often mistaken for some other emotion like joy, ironically, or anxiety. It can also systematically delude you into thinking that every thought it's feeding you is normal. I know that research on this particular emotion isn't particularly vast because it's been ignored in favor of anxiety and joy, but this understanding of the emotion is still very simplistic and not even particularly true when you look into genocide studies or just disgust studies itself. Very insecure people have high levels of trait disgust of themselves, and very grandiose people have high levels of trait disgust of other people and of themselves in some cases.

I think you can draw a lot of parallels between your own emotions and humanity as a whole. Everyone have the same emotions as you (even psychopaths share the same feelings as you). Seems like most of animals as well, though I'm getting ahead of myself. However you react to feelings other ways than other people do. Getting to know yourself how you react gives a lot of insight to humanity, both actively and passively by comparing your reactions to others'.

And i think the reason why when Pixar made the movie they decided not to make joy and happiness different characters is because that probably would be to similar. Anyways that my opinion
