CORRECTION: The kanji 歴 【れき】(history of; experience of) should actually be 暦【れき】(calendar; almanac).

Is this one of these rare games that has no violence or allusion to violence whatsoever? Looks so interesting and pleasant. I don't know it, but I want to watch this one!

These videos are so useful! I find that one of the more troublesome aspects of learning Japanese is all the weird ways of speaking in media. Rather than having someone explain something in the abstract, you actually explain stuff with provided context. Great job on your videos. Great production quality too!

Thanks so much for enjoying the videos Jesper! Oh absolutely I also feel 100% that learning in context is so much more important for both your enjoyment and learning of the language! :)

I just wanted to thankyou for all the time and effort you put in to these video's. This is a great way to view these stories in a different way as I am passionate for story writing, which I am looking to do in the future. I hope this isn't cheeky but is the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series still going on as that is the one I am most passionate about? I still can't believe I am still learning after 3 months since you last FF7 video. I have just finished watching your Fire Emblem Video and just saw what you said about FF7. This answers my question just shows how passionate I am about FF7. Keep up the fantastic videos mate. Note to self watch the hole video before commenting.

Hahaha its okay! Thank you so much for sharing your passion here in the comments! I will do my best to get the next chapter out as soon as I can! I also love how we can learn more about these characters and stories through breaking down the language and comparing official/literal translations! So much fun!

I love that this is only episode 4 and yet you have no issues diving headfirst into a bunch of archaic stuff! Determining the usefulness of language based on whether or not it actually appears in stuff you people actually wanna see is definitely the way to go IMO! Please keep it up!

Hey brother! I was just wondering if this would be a good game to learn Japanese from. Seeing as you can relisten to all dialog boxes as many times as you like. So I found your video and enjoy it immensely

38:27 It's funny (and a bit confusing) how な at the end of the sentence can have so many meanings like するな meaning don't do, then なあ (the あ can be omitted) meaning ね and now I learn there is also しな which has the meaning of しろ, I guess しな is a lazy way of saying しなさい. Japanese People, **Sigh** what were you thinking?!? ^^

Greatly enjoyed this video (and this channel, which I am finally diving into). I’m thinking Three Houses might be a good first Japanese game to play through (as someone with about a year or jpn classes) because: -it’s a game I’ve already beaten so I know how it plays/where the story is mostly going -just about every line is voiced, so even if I don’t recognize the kanji (which, let’s be real, is the majority of them) I will at least be able to pronounce it thanks to the voices -the game has a “log” where you can go back to and repeat a line of dialogue as nauseous. All these factors make this seem like a solid first title for me to play, largely because I can think of few games that check all those boxes (I considered replaying persona 5 in jpn, but outside of the main story most of the game isn’t voiced, so I would be left stranded during a lot of the optional conversations). Anyone have any other suggestions that check those last two points (all voiced, log for repeating dialogue lines)?

I 100% agree! it fits all the criteria needed to be a good learning game and im actually about to start a series showcasing all the games i feel fit this criteria for 'great learning games'. The only major downside of Fire emblem in particular is how alot of fantasy language is used, which is super helpful and useful if you love the genre, but not so useful for perhaps your average student haha

@@GameGengo thanks for the response. Also, a series showcasing good beginner titles would indeed be wonderful! In the meantime I’ll be making my way backwards through all the videos you’ve posted already. Incredibly well made! Expect a new patron soon :)

Really cool and helpfull video. Liked it alot. I've started three houses a few times in my mother tunge (german) but never played it to the end. Now i wana try to tackle it again in japanese, even though i'm just starting to learn japanese. It's so hard to always understand what they are saying. So i often sit there and listen to one sentence 10, 20 or even a lot more times just to find out what sound is coming next so can type the right kana to search the kanji. But i guess this will get better over time.

How much of the "archaic speech" did you have to research or did you already know it? Where would you pick up that kind of language info?

Hi! This is my first video of your vocabulary series that I've watched. It's such a great idea! I know I'm too late to vote for the game in this go, but could I make a suggestion for a game? There's a game called Gnosia that's on the Switch that I've been using to learn some Japanese. It's kind of like Among Us except single player and seemingly some story. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Wait.. you got the first kanji 暦【れき】(calendar; almanac) mixed up with 歴 【れき】(history of; experience of)... The 暦 kanji has also the other kun-reading りゃくlike in the era names... for example 天暦 【てん・りゃく】(Tenryaku era (947.4.22-957.10.27)). Thank you for your great videos!

It certainly is interesting to see how language evolves overtime! Like how in english 'Wicked' and 'Sick' eventually grew to have opposite meanings from their original use. Language is so cool!

@@GameGengo I don't even know that the origin of wicked and sick are opposite! This is so cool! And also, want to tell you how useful your videos are, they are my ideal way of learning languages. I learn English this way and fail to find the same type of videos when learning Germany, and stayed an amateur for 4 years. Now that I found your video I'm sure I'm gonna learn Japanese really fast.
