Shania Twain is a huge Canadian singer songwriter with hundreds of hit songs. She is one of the best selling artists in country pop history. She had a very tragic life, lost her mom & stepfather in 1987 & had to look after her younger siblings. In 1993 she released her first album & the rest, as they say, is history.

Her life story is inspiring. She went from a very poor, tough family life to a country singer. She supports giving funds to schools for kids whose family can't afford things like field trips because she remembers being there herself. Yes she found fame, but that doesn't stop person hardship like divorce. Still she fights on. Strong lady.

She also is a member of the Temagami first nation tribe and I believe she was brought up on a reservation. Her stepfather is Ojibwe. It's interesting that this hasn't really factored into her public persona. She seems to keep her private life private and is protective of it, which I think is really respectable. Shania stopped recording and touring years ago, effectively retiring from music, and then years later revealed that she had caught Lyme disease and the infection (which can infect and damage the central nervous system, as it did mine) damaged the nerves of her vocal cords, and that's why she stopped making music. She treated the infection and had surgeries to try to correct the damage and issued a new album. Her voice isn't what it once was, but I really respect her for being so forthright about what happened. For some reason, a lot of people are ashamed of losing abilities, even when it's not their fault. Unfortunately, she lost a lot of my respect when she said "I would have voted for [Donald Trump] because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn't be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don't want b- - - - - -t. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?" She later apologized and said that that quote isn't 'representative of my values,' which doesn't make any sense. She apologized 'if I offended anyone' but didn't say she changed her mind about supporting the man who would attempt to overthrow the United States government. Very sad capstone on her public career from my perspective.

Well, a reason for people not liking it is because of what we see now. Country has been eaten away by pop, essentially making today's top country songs pop-country. People who want pure country have to go seek out independent artists for what they want, which is both good and bad. But country music today is pretty split, and that's not always a good thing.
@MatthewMorris1997
@MatthewMorris1997 Жыл бұрын
@@BigFry9591 I think Country Pop started because the popularity of traditional Country was waning / entering into a niche market / not gaining in popularity. Country Pop could get people introduced to a more country sound & possibly get them more interested in traditional Country. I enjoy both types of music but Country Pop more, it blends country pop and rock, meets in the middle between the three which I think is a very nice sound. Traditional Country music needs to stay though, good to see a few young artists staying with the old style & keeping it alive.

Her live versions of this are great. She got other country stars to cameo in them, on occasion. In one, she had Alan Jackson and called him out.

In the late eighties to early 90"s country music transitioned to a more 70's rock or Pop mix. Many artists had crossover hits. And yeah, who doesn't like a Shania video! Have mercy!

If you'd like more Shania, you need to listen to "From This Moment"! ❤ Another popular one and one of my favorites of hers. 😊There are, actually, 2 versions of it: one that's a duet and one that's a solo. I personally love the duet the best (and it was originally written as a duet) but, you can choose either one.

I have loved her since the '90s. My favorite song is Any Man of Mine and I remember the controversy of that music video because she wore a shirt that showed her belly button. And at that time, especially for country music, you didn't really do that lol. I also love the The Woman in Me and You're Still the One and many others. She has some very beautiful songs and then more upbeat fun songs.

OMG, I had such a crush on Shania Twain in the late '90s. I sold cars for a bit and a couple who bought a car from me worked at a print shop where they made calendars and had one with Shania Twain in his trunk and gave it to me as they moved their stuff to the new car. I treasure it to this day.

First I have to say thank you to my American brothers and sisters for wishing us happy Canada Day. Shania Twain her first album I believe was produced by or directed by Bo Derek's husband John Derek. But she was also never given a lot of credit or thanks from the country music because they did consider her more rock and I believe it was Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton that stood up for her just saying anyways I think you guys are such an awesome couple you guys will be together forever, God bless

Shania is a very talented woman. Always enjoyed her music - that attitude she brings to so many songs. But also admire her … she had a tough younger life, her husband cheated on her with her best friend and she went through several years where she was physically unable to sing following Lyme disease. I hope she has found some peace and happiness. She’s left a legacy of great music we can continue to enjoy.

Rob would really like Colin James "Just Came Back" and "Voodoo Thing". Canadian female singer KD Land "hallelujah" is the best version ever. Even Leonard Cohen who wrote the song, said nobody did it better than KD Lang. Watch her sing it live, you won't ever ever forget it. It's a spiritual experience.

Yes yes yes to Colin James! I've never seen a reaction channel that featured him, and he's just so damn talented it's ridiculous. "Voodoo Thing" is one of my favourite workout songs of all time, and "Just Came Back" has an amazing rock beat. To those I'd also add "Five Long Years" and also "Chicks, Cars, and the Third World War". Also pretty much anything off his jump tunes album, "Colin James and the Little Big Band". Fantastic artist. This Canadian really hopes they check him out soon! :)
