My iLvl is 574. Always been Frost, but I'm tired of it. I'm having a hard time learning Fire, as it's not what I'm used to. Thank you very much for this guide, as it has helped me alot trying to get used to my new spec.

ah vids like this take me back to tbc (i stopped raiding early into wotlk). I was a frost mage and my friend was a fire mage, we were both pretty big on theory-crafting so one night we had an argument, the classic which is better, took us 6hrs of working out every tiny detail and in the end ... fire won, the swine is still smug to this day, it only won by 1dps but he keeps reminding me that even 1dps better is still better >.

Preach, thanks for all the awesome videos. I have a few notes for the better geared raiders. Be aware of the 60% nerf to combustion in 5.4. It's damage is now based on 20% of current ignite rather than 50%. Because of this, "crit > 5036 haste > mastery > haste" no longer applies, not for a while at least most likely. Stick with "crit > haste > mastery". Mage Armor at the opener is no longer viable. Also, do not drop your T15 4p bonus until you can replace it with the T16 4p bonus.

+NEO D Actually according to Simcraft, Frost is outperforming fire and arcane. While that doesn't say much about the average player, it does answer the question about which spec is performing at the top right now in optimal gear. That was the question. Besides, if someone's asking which spec is best, it's likely they don't have heroic SoO gear. Frost has been the most solid spec this entire expansion regardless of ilvl. It's very user-friendly. It doesn't involve the rng of fire nor the mana micromanagement of arcane. Honestly, you shouldn't even try those while running lfr or flex unless you've been in normal mode or above. Ntm Preach adds that you shouldn't be trying for fire until you've reached at least 40% unbuffed critical strike. Until that point, frost is and will be the way to go in lfr or flex until WoD. Game, set, and match.

Please dont ever rely on Simcraft - I have no idea where do they get their numbers from but I remember times during cata when they claimed frost is the best pve spec while in fact it was not even considered as pve spec due to low output. Better check dpsbot or logs. And in MoP frost might be at the top during MSV. Even tho it is a fun spec it never really was the best mage spec.

Preach, Just wanted to say. Your theory behind lfr and other accessibilty issues around talents, content etc are spot on. Basic human psychology that Blizz has seemingly forgotten about. A real shame that the game has been going down the wrong path like this.

I don't understand the point of using pom before you use alter pokm pyro combust, since pom pyros hit for 20-25% less cant remember which it is. The only reason I could see is if you cant count on your other procs critting and going for the pom pyro crit combust if all else fails

You use POM before Alter Time so that once you Alter Time AGAIN, your POM is up, along with all your procs. Imagine this - You have "Pyroblast!" and a Hot Streak proc. You pop POM and Alter Time, and spam Pyros. Alter Time goes off, you can spam even MORE Pyros. POM just allows you to fire off more.

As someone who hardcore raids a mage, i'll give my 2 cents; Fire has had a 60% nerf to combustion so i would wait a little for more gear this tier for more mastery to give higher combusts

Ok for some reason my fire strike doesnt spread my dots.. its freaking me out and annoying me ... im still lvl 86 and thats one of the main reasons i still didnt lvled my mage cuz my dam strike doesnt work properly

Flamestrike doesnt spread dots. Inferno Blast does but will now only spread your ignite, combustion and pyro dot's. Unlike in previous tier's it would spread your bomb as well. Additionally you must be using the inferno blast glyph for the spreading to work.

Robert Lincoln You don't need it to be glyphed for it to work. Glyphing causes it to spread to one additional target.

Not really, if you have full Crit Cloth and gemmed, reforged etc, you can put out nice damage. Of course, it is a lot better in amazing gear.

ARCANE definely ,when you have higher ilevel gears ,,,,,,above 550 ,however you can't compare mage's DPS with warlock ,god it's a bug class

It depends. All are pretty much just as good as the others. I'm Arcane/Fire. I use arcane for fights where I can mostly just stand in one spot, and Fire for high movement encounters. Try each one and see what you like the most.

Blizzard is worthless, Arcane explosion is better but if you're in range, otherwise dont even bother with blizzard unless it's 10+ targets.

sdfr45678 Well since spells like blizzard have haste breakpoints it gets more efficient as your gear progresses. And in SoO right now we have alot of haste gear which automatically makes blizzard better than AE when you're facing alot of mobs.
