I agree. I am a fan also. I think she handled the competition quite well, from HS to College. She jumped right from the frying pan into the fire. It is a testament to her resolve that she is still in the mix. We have not seen the best out of her yet. Her future is still bright. I like how she shared the podium with two other NC State runners at ACC 5k. That was an epic race and for her to place with her two running mates, that is great. I am a little surprised at the high level of competition she faced right away. I actually though she would have less competition.

@@lars277 Doesn't seem like she could run her own race like she normally does. Her strength has been to go out strong and keep the pace. That's what she'll need to do to win. She doesn't have the kick at the end, not the speed anyway.

I will never understand why “back markers” are allowed to affect races. Officials simply can direct slower runners into the third lane and free the inside lanes for the race leaders. Runners could also do it themselves out of respect for the race. There’s no reason the race needs to be decided by leaders weaving through slow runners.
@Tigerex966
@Tigerex966 2 жыл бұрын
That would make them even slower and extra punishment and totally unfair they have as much right to the inside lane as anyone. I say keep the same rules for everyone, do not give anyone special treatment. If some one is in front of you pass them on the outside lane, problem solved, or slow down.
@tommyrq180
@tommyrq180 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tigerex966 By that non-competitive logic, you are penalizing the fastest runners because they must run farther to go around slow athletes. It’s worse on an indoor track and it’s more dangerous as fast athletes blow by people. As a former D1athlete I would have been happy to get out of the way because I’m a competitor. In bike racing they pull riders about to be lapped. Pull them out of the race. That’s another alternative but I’m not for that in scholastic athletics when simple respect for fastest athletes would suffice.
@Tigerex966
@Tigerex966 2 жыл бұрын
@@tommyrq180 no you are not, you are giving the same rules to everyone, no one is penalized, or treated special, more than any one else. It has been very competitive for decades. This race was extremely competitive, and it adds an extra layer of strategy to the mix and makes planning when to take your move even more important. It can also be used to great effect with teams. Now I am not talking about dirty plays pushing, shoving tripping or purposely impeding another, switching lanes when they switch or nothing like that. That is why we have these rules to make sure it is equally fair to everyone. You don't penalize the slow or fast runners, they are all treated exactly the same
@tommyrq180
@tommyrq180 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tigerex966 Same rules? Did you notice the pacer in this race who pulled off the track? That was to give an advantage to the very few fast runners. But then due to this inexplicable rule oversight, the fastest runners then are forced to run farther. So it depends on what you value. I value the race to win. Racing is about doing what it takes to win. Making the usually exciting race conclusion, the one that decides the podium, subject to weaving through slow runners right on the final straight is contrary to the object of the race. If you value just running around a track, do it on your own time and let the racers race fairly. You value running around. I value optimizing the race for first. Got it.
@Tigerex966
@Tigerex966 2 жыл бұрын
@@tommyrq180 That's what pacers usually do? They don't have to run any further, than a slower runner, in the outside lane. It's completely equal for all. Any runner that wants to be in one lane must only compete, in 400 races outside, or 200 inside, that way they can keep one lane to themselves. Now to be honest, if I was lapping every one, I would love for them to bow down worship, move to the furthest lane away stop and let me speed by unimpeded. It would definitely produce faster times and records, for those that already have faster time and records, and slow down even more those that are slower. It would also make for safer races, and less injuries, so there are some good things to your suggestion, I think I may have been a little mean, because we'll this is just a comment session on KZbin, it's not like face to face. I prefer the way it is now, but their would be benefits speed and safety wide if it were to change, maybe in special races. Of course the flip side is it is no longer equally fair for all, and the slowest will be slower at the expense of the fastest.

@mediamannaman
@mediamannaman Жыл бұрын
1. Look at world records for the 100m and 200m. The 200m is slightly more than twice the 100m. So, how long can someone flat out sprint (at their top speed)? Not even for 200 meters. 2. If a runner started off as fast as they can, and just tried to maintain it, their lungs would not be able to supply oxygen to the muscles fast enough and they would fatigue. Their legs would feel heavy and they would slow down. They would not recover in time to catch up and compete.

I have to say this, on all this group by the requirements of Alberto Salazar not even the skinnier is too fat to be a runner. Tuohy looks like a running tank as Mary Cain looks when she won the Jr's. Is sad such fixation on weight when they are at their peak and healthy, none of them need to starve to be their best. I still missing at this level a Claudia Lane, Brie Oakley, lots more.

Athletes who signed up for Alberto Salazar do so because they wanted to be the GOAT not just a College Champion. Mary Cain knew what she was going into and when she failed she needed a scapegoat to blame other than herself. Alberto was the ideal person for her to blame because he was already being demonized and cancelled for his doping involvements and it was publically fashionable during MeToo to put all the blame on a man in power position. If you want to compete with the best in the world, unfortuately it does usually mean you have to be skinny for most distance runners. Skinny doesn't have to equate to eating disorders.

@@dap777754 Competitive elite racing for most runners is fine line between being at the peak vs injury. Chris Solinsky for example broke the 10K AR and pretty much soon afterwards ended his career due to injury. Similar to Alan Webb who ironically trained under Alberto and soo afterwards was no longer competitive. Correct me if I have my recollections wrong about those two. Not a single black woman in this event? Not that I care, but it seems a bit odd.

Tuohy seems to be carrying a little too much weight in the mid-section. It might help her to lose some.

It's a cruel twist of fate that as girls grow into adults the body changes all on it's own. It takes out a lot of the high school stars. Many of them could adapt by moving to shorter distance.

gotta laugh, to think I can send in JoeJoe the Magic Mushroom house league male runner. Parade that person out next week as a Female NCAA 3K runner, clean the clocks of these women and best runs. And the liberal media would love JoeJoe the Magic Mushroom. That's what is happening right now in NCAA Women's Swimming.
