I think there is something in the X570 Spec that might prohibit ASUS from adding Thunderbolt or certain other things. The fact that they've made three or two and one half boards B550 with a variant of Thunderbolt sounds like that. Perhaps Thunderbolt 4 is so fast they would have to slow down a PCIe slot or even stop/remove it.

@@nateo200 ASUS has said that B550 is better suited for Thunderbolt but didn't go into details outside of the fact that it would make the board outrageously expensive. AsRock has an X570 Creator board with TB3.. and it's indeed outrageously expensive. As far as PCIe lanes, you really can't escape that issue. The Vision D is sort of all over the map on how lane sharing is dealing with Thunderbolt 3 although from what I understand you can really customize how the lane sharing is working in the BIOS . The ProArt is much more straightforward, if you put something in the third PCIe slot, you'll be sharing lanes with thunderbolt 4. So best to keep the slot empty if you plan on using a lot of thunderbolt devices. I'm also inclined to think that if there is a card in the third slot, it'll only steal bandwidth if it's being used at the same time as thunderbolt. It's not like Thunderbolt goes down to a x2 from a x4 just because there's a card in there.

@@IvanFazekas Ivan, if you don't already have a use for Thunderbolt in mind, there's probably some better choices out there for you. Good thunderbolt devices are VERY expensive so for me this board was the least of my concerns.. building a raid and eGPU to go with it were the real cost burdens.

Yah! You're so awesome!! I think you're the first real review of this thing! I just got my ProArt B550-Creator yesterday and I love it! So a couple of thoughts.... ASUS has mentioned that for some reason the B550 chipset is better suited for Thunderbolt over x570. I can't say for why but there you have it. I know ASrock has played with X570 and thunderbolt so I'm not sure what gives here. That being said I also have the Vision D-P in a box that I plan to return, simply for the fact it's not TB4 and I've never had the need for WIFI on a workstation. Seriously are we kidding ourselves? How often are we going to be moving this thing around anyway? Plug that workstation into a cable and love your faster internet! And If you need bluetooth... get a dongle. Done. With that out of the way, what I love about the ProArt is the VRM heatsinks. They Kill the Vision D's which look like they were designed by Apple and a street skater. I mean really? They look like a fucking half pipe! Horrible heat dissipation to be sure. I'm a Gigabyte fanboy but that thing is awful! I was tempted to pull the heatsinks off the B550-Creator and check the mosfets but I use this stuff to make money so I can't be bothered. I'm guessing maybe they're 50 amp vishays which I would be fine with.. but hopefully somebody does a more in depth on this at somepoint. I put a 5900X in mine and it I'm getting fantastic Cinebench 23 scores and it's staying absolutely cool over several cycles. 4 cycles to be exact, so that's 40 min of rendering...The cpu has never gone past 65 degress at default settings with a Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler. This gives some of headroom for overclocks, so yeah, this is the real deal. Of course I'll run a prime95 to see for sure but I'm feeling this thing can handle it just fine. In comparison to the Vision D, I wish the ProArt had the two extra USB ports like the Vision D but I can live without them. The Vision D also has a post code. One thing I hate about Asus is they tend to cheapen out on things like this. Post codes are so useful! Why Asus?! Anyway, great overview man!

@@marckroswell8227 Yeah, newegg had them on sale for two days then sold out. I don't think you have to worry, they're starting to trickle in more and more. I would say if you're planning on buying from newegg, don't trust their product notification thing. It notified me 2 days after I already bought it and that would have been too late. Check daily to see if it's sale.

Having an x570 asrock creator, I’m glad I switched, the chipset fan on that board failed on me. I don’t use WiFi so this board actually matched all the features I really needed. The one thing that was missing was 10gbps LAN, which I get why it couldn’t be implemented on a b550 board

2 critiques of this video. 1.The green and purple mouse/keyboard port isn’t expected to actually be used regularly, it’s clearly too outdated for today’s devices. It’s purpose is because sometimes the bios menu and such won’t recognize USB devices so this is a backup in case that happens. There’s a reason every motherboard has this. 2. USB 3.2 Gen 2 is NOT 20gbps. It’s 10gbps. USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 is the one that does 20gbps which this motherboard does not have. You’ll notice above the “ss” on the USB ports, it has a “10” right above there. That’s indicating 10gbps.

I believe this would be a good Motherboard for anyone looking to build a proper 4K, and up Video Editing PC. With it's Creator theme, as opposed to gaming theme, it better suits the build for such. The in between Motherboard of a gaming machine, or workstation , that has the option of using ECC Memory, which is a plus, with up to a 16 Core, 32 Thread CPU, and 128GB of RAM. The option of PCIe 4.0 M.2 Raid Configuration, for faster storage. AI noise cancelation for clear for online communication. The Creator Hub for convenient program use. Would look good with one of the new RTX A4000, RTX A5000 GPU's that also have ECC Memory .....

I just watched the video for the third time. Since you asked, YES I WOULD LOVE YOU TO DO A BUILD WITH THIS. I'm hoping to pick up the parts in the next couple weeks. This will be my first PC build from the ground up. Personally I'm going to put in a Ryzen 9 3900X with the stock fan (Plex and Handbrake transcoding is what I do a lot of), and pretty much everything else you recommended part for part for your wonderful Gigabyte B550 Vision D video EXCEPT that I'm using my existing GeForce card from my old PC and I don't know if I'll be using the huge Corsair case. I'm thinking more likely the be quiet 500 line. Also will add a bluetooth add-in board of some kind. I'll never use Wifi in a desktop when I'm connected 100% of the time to Ethernet.

I was able to purchase this on release date. If you compare it with the vision features by feature the last one will have some extras like ecc memory support and built in wifi 6 For the same price ($300) I will definitely go for the vision. For me, the lack of wifi was a deal breaker. If are you are already into zen 3 a x570 will be a better purchase on that price range, but In reality none will be a great purchase since zen 3 is in its last year. I will rather wait a little for zen 4 or any of this mb in their x570 form (btw is not likely to happen)

It is the best to go with asus Proart Z 690 creator which has DDR 5, Thunderbolt 4 port, wifi/ blue tooth. Also you get better speed. X550 creator lags DDR5, wifi/ blue tooth and X 570 lags DDR5, thunderbolt 4 port. It is better for creators to spend an extra 150 bucks for z690 creator motherboard. You will get speedy work flow.

In the video when you compare the X570 and the B550 boards you corrected the speed of the USB ports with teal color. Any PSU that has 2x CPU (EPS) connectors have a 4 pin since the CPU headers are 2x4pin. So one of the CPU headers will split into half and you get a 4 pin :)

Great video. I ordered this board week ago and came online to see reviews. I really liked your straightforward talking and overall fun aspect. Good channel. Just one thing missing I would like to see in the future. Screengrab of their EFI BIOS. But that's not that important. Correct me if I am wrong but you said around 00:56 that you'll explain why there's that short DisplayPort cable, but later in video you actually never covered it? I am aware this board support 4000G CPU series and one can attach HDMI monitor to the board if specific processors are used. However I doubt that short DisplayPort cable is used to connect monitor to a board. So why is there so short DisplayPort cable? Can you elaborate? Is that what you are talking about around 05:50 where you are showing DisplayPort In connector with your pencil? Can you or anyone else explain me, why would I want to connect graphic card DP out, to this DP in port at the motherboard? First of all thanks! :) I thought I was clear about it when talking about the IO. So the DP port cable is to connect your GPU video out to DP in on the back of the motherboard. Then the TB4 ports can also put out video :) Hope this makes sense.

I would indeed, but for some reason Thunderbolt doesn't play well with x570, that's why they make it for the b550 chipset. I doubt there's any more CPUs that will be launched for this platform... :)

@@cj7073 So I tried to install windows 7 on my new computer. But my new bios would not recognize my devices... It's a long story... but anyway, yeah this legacy hardware just works... you can bypass all the new drivers and compatability by simply going barebones legacy. It pretty much had to do with the new SS USB ports and the drivers... the real problem these days is finding ps2 devices (keyboard and mouse). You can still order them, they are a must have. Only reason why I was gonna install windows 7 was to do the free upgrade from 7 then up to 10.

Im kinda new to all this.... when you say you can run 2x 4k display or 1x 8k display from the thunderbolt ports, how would that work? dont you run the display from the dedicated GPU? also wouldnt this make those ports useless since now they are display ports and cant be used to transfer data? This will be a 'dumb' question but I'm wondering why you used/recommended the Teamgroup T-Force Extreme DDR4 RAM when there are other much cheaper options. I've 'almost' settled on this board (see my comments in the other video). I now have to settle on the DRR4 RAM. I have no desire to overclock my system, but I want it to be as fast (and affordable) as possible. All the Ryzen's I'm looking at are rated at 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM, yet I see many people suggesting using Higher Mhz DDR4. I'm hoping/presuming that those people intend to overclock. If that assumption is true, what is it about the TeamGroup T-Force RAM that makes it worth twice the price of other DDR4 3200Mhz RAM. And would you recommend any other DDR4 RAM for this motherboard given that I don't want to overclock but want the best bang for the buck? Thanks.

So my Cintiq pro should go into the motherboard instead of graphics card?... Just wondering cuz the cintiqs, when using a Mac, uses only 1 USB-C cable to power and connect. While using a pc, you gotta power it to the wall and then USB and Display port to the Pc tower.

I have a technical question because I own Thunderbolt Dell Docking Station WD19TB which has 2 display port outputs and it is working fantastic with Intel graphic card built-in Dell Laptop. It is possible to plug the TB connector into one of the thunderbolts ports on the motherboard and 2 displays will be supported via a docking station? I am not pretty sure if it is possible to because when DP cable will be connected to an external graphic card it's something like passing through video output via Thunderbolt port on the mainboard.

This will he an awesome motherboard for building in a rackmount case and locating the pc in a network closet using a thunderbolt dock like Linus does. And to be honest this is a creative focused board hince the name and the dual 2.5g nics. This board doesn't need wifi Bluetooth would be nice but can easily be added with a USB dongle

Rear I/O USB ports are 10 Gbps, not 20 Gbps, as suggested by the presenter. It reads 10 Gbps on I/O panel... In terms of future CPUs, AMD "6000X" will have new AM5 platform, so no go with this board. The only future CPU release that this board could support is 5000G. Does "DP in" port really convert video signal into "HDMI" out? Is this officially explained anywhere?

As far as I understand the DP in is for the thunderbolt video output, and the hdmi out is the APU video out 🤔 I know on the back of the IO it says ss10, but on the Tech specs it says USB 3.2 gen 2 🤔

I have an asus rog formula viii motherboard x570. Can I use the asus thunderboltx4 card with it? I have a 3950x cpu. I want to be able to connect my Apollo x8 to my pc instead of having to buy an m1 mac

Does it also have a USB 3 Type A header? The be quiet case I'm looking at has both type C and type A USB Gen 1 slots on the case.

I want to make an argument in favour of the ps2 port. There is a not insignificant number of creator's using older input devices, keyboards, graphic tablets that they use sometimes for decades and integrated into their workflow. Try getting them to switch to newer sleaker usb gadgets...try.. really...tryyyy....or just put a fkn ps2 port on it.

FYI, USB 3.2 Gen2 is 10gbps not 20gbps

Yeah, that's right 3.2 gen 2x2 is 20gbps. :)

@@theTechNotice Exactly, 6:15 is slightly inacurate (those are 4x usb 3.2 gen 2). Just NIT picking here, in case somebody thinks this delivers 3.2 gen 2x2. Anyway, I really hope usb naming convention was better.

I would imagine the reason they included to ps2 connection is for legacy tablets.

Some people love their old mechanical keyboards too.. but moreover PS2 is directly hardwired to the motherboard. It can't be hacked like USB and this could be useful for administrators who need it for troubleshooting issues. This board can easily find its way into small to medium studios so stuff like that could be useful.
